Red Sox's Aroldis Chapman: Triggers vesting option
Chapman triggered a vesting option in his contract when he pitched a scoreless ninth inning in Saturday's 4-0 win over the Pirates.
The appearance was a non-save situation for Chapman, but it took him beyond the 40-inning mark and triggered an option for 2027. Pending an end-of-year physical, the left-hander will be under contract with Boston for another season and make $13 million.

Chapman earned a save against the Athletics on Thursday, allowing one hit and striking out two batters with no walks over one inning.
Chapman entered in the bottom of the ninth inning with Boston clinging to a one-run lead. He gave up a one-out double to put the tying run in scoring position but then struck out Colby Thomas and Nick Kurtz to slam the door shut. Chapman allowed two runs (one earned) on a hit and a walk while striking out two over one inning to take a blown save in Sunday's 5-4 extra-inning win over the Yankees.
Chapman continued a rough patch of performances. He's now allowed six runs (five earned) over his last five innings, a span that includes both of his blown saves and two of his three losses this season. He was able to avoid the loss Sunday, as the Red Sox went on to win in 10 innings. Despite the recent hiccups, Chapman still has a 2.19 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 32:12 K:BB across 24.2 innings while converting 16 of 18 save chances this season. He doesn't appear to be at risk of losing the closing job yet, though he has pitched three of the last four days and may be due a rest day soon.

Chapman walked one and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning Saturday to record his 16th save of the season in a 4-1 win over the Yankees.
The veteran closer picked up his second save of the series against the club with whom he racked up 153 between 2016 and 2022, the most of any of the seven teams Chapman has suited up for in his big-league career. The left-hander's only blown save of the season came at Coors Field last week, and over 23.2 innings so far this year he's produced a 1.90 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 30:11 K:BB.
