  • Pete Kozma: Parts ways with Oakland

Kozma was released by the Athletics on Tuesday. Kozma had his contract selected by the Athletics for the final weekend of the regular season, and he elected free agency after being removed from the 40-man roster. He spent the rest of the season at Triple-A and hit .244/.307/.337 with four homers, 40 RBI, 24 runs and six stolen bases in 113 games.

  • Athletics' Pete Kozma: Contract selected by Oakland

Kozma's contract was selected by the Athletics on Friday. Kozma gives Oakland added infield depth for the final series of the season with Vimael Machin (illness) hitting the injured list. The 33-year-old owns an unimpressive .215/.278/.291 career slash line over parts of seven major-league seasons, the last of which came back in 2018.

  • Athletics' Pete Kozma: Sent to minor-league camp

Kozma was reassigned to minor-league camp Saturday. Kozma had a strong performance early in spring training and hit .282 with one home run, 11 runs and eight RBI in 24 Cactus League appearances. However, he should serve as organizational depth at Triple-A Las Vegas for most of the season.

  • Athletics' Pete Kozma: Standing out thus far

Kozma, who's on a minor-league contract with the Athletics, is 6-for-14 with two doubles, a home run and five RBI across 10 Cactus League games. While it's counterintuitive to think the 32-year-old has finally figured out big-league pitching after mostly struggling over parts of seven previous seasons, his spring numbers are undeniably eye-catching thus far. Kozma did hit over .300 in two separate stints with the Cardinals back in 2012 and 2014, but that sample constituted just 40 games and he slashed an abysmal .217/.275/.273 in his most extensive taste of MLB action (448 plate appearances) in 2013. Although Kozma is likely to spend most of the season at Triple-A Las Vegas as organizational depth, he could conceivably alter expectations if he continues wielding a similarly hot bat the rest of spring.

  • Athletics' Pete Kozma: Signs minors deal with Athletics

Kozma signed a minor-league contract with the Athletics on Wednesday, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Kozma appears set to serve as organizational depth for Oakland in 2021 after spending the 2020 season with Atlanta's alternate squad. The 32-year-old hasn't appeared in the majors since 2018, and he slashed .263/.340/.414 with seven home runs and 51 RBI with Triple-A Toledo in 2019.

  • Braves' Pete Kozma: Tests positive for coronavirus

Manager Brian Snitker said Saturday that Kozma tested positive for COVID-19, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. Kozma was added to the Braves' 60-man roster in late June as a non-roster invitee, but he was named as one of four players on the team to have tested positive for COVID-19. He's reportedly experiencing symptoms, which could slightly extend his recovery timeline. The 32-year-old will need to clear the league protocol before he's allowed to rejoin the team.

  • Braves' Pete Kozma: Joins 60-man pool

Kozma will be a part of the Braves' 60-man roster, Gabe Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Kozma inked a minor-league deal with the Braves during the offseason and appeared in major-league spring training as a non-roster invitee, where he went 3-for-18 with three runs and four strikeouts. After spending the entire 2019 campaign in the minors, the 32-year-old is no lock for major-league playing time, especially after hitting .164/.228/.221 with 12 RBI and 56 strikeouts over his last three seasons in the majors.

  • Braves' Pete Kozma: Inks minors deal with Braves

Kozma signed a minor-league contract with the Braves on Saturday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. After making major-league appearances in 2017 and 2018, Kozma failed to reach the big leagues last season as he hit .263/.340/.414 with seven home runs and 51 RBI over 88 games with Triple-A Toledo. The 31-year-old has struggled in his limited action in the majors over his career. While it wouldn't be surprising to see him make an appearance with the Braves at some point in 2020, it's unlikely that he will make a big impact.

  • Tigers' Pete Kozma: Shifts to minors camp

The Tigers reassigned Kozma to their minor-league camp Tuesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Kozma played in 27 games for the Tigers in 2018, slashing .217/.236/.348 across 73 plate appearances. Assuming he sticks around in the organization, Kozma will likely begin 2019 at Triple-A Toledo and could get the call to the big leagues if the Tigers are in need of a utility infielder at any point.

  • Tigers' Pete Kozma: Re-signs with former club

Kozma agreed to a minor-league contract with Detroit on Friday that includes an invitation to spring training. Kozma will remain in the Tigers' organization for the second straight season after spending a majority of the 2018 campaign at the Triple-A level. He is set to compete for an Opening Day spot in spring training, but the 30-year-old shouldn't be viewed as anything more than a depth piece after slashing .217/.236/.348 in 27 games with the big-league team last year.

  • Pete Kozma: Elects free agency

Kozma decided to pursue free agency Thursday. Kozma will land on the open market after being outrighted off Detroit's 40-man roster earlier in the week. The infielder played in 27 games for the Tigers in 2018, hitting just .217 with a .584 OPS. The 30-year-old has bounced around the past few years and will look to find a new home as a depth piece prior to next season.

Kozma was outrighted to Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Kozma spent the majority of the 2018 season as organizational infield depth, appearing in just 27 games for the Tigers and slashing .217/.236/.348.

  • Tigers' Pete Kozma: Out of lineup Friday

Kozma is not starting Friday against the Brewers. Kozma sits for the third time in four games, following a stretch in which he started five straight at shortstop. Niko Goodrum will start at short Friday, with Jim Adduci playing first base.

  • Tigers' Pete Kozma: Contract selected by Tigers

Kozma's contract was selected by the Tigers on Friday. The Tigers required an extra infielder for the stretch run after Jose Iglesias suffered a setback in his recovery from an abdominal strain. Kozma appeared in 15 games for the Tigers earlier in the season, hitting .175/.195/.300. As a 30-year-old with a career 53 wRC+, Kozma is unlikely to be anything other than bench depth over the final few weeks of the season, as the Tigers will presumably prefer to give at-bats to younger players who could be part of their future. Iglesias was placed on the 60-day disabled list in a corresponding move.

  • Tigers' Pete Kozma: Reports to Triple-A

Kozma cleared waivers Monday and will report to Triple-A Toledo. Kozma will serve as organizational infield depth with the Mud Hens after being designated for assignment and subsequently passing through waivers untouched. The 30-year-old owns a .200/.258/.306 slash line across 26 games with Toledo this season.

  • Tigers' Pete Kozma: Removed from 40-man roster

Kozma was designated for assignment by the Tigers on Friday, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports. A spot was needed for Miguel Cabrera and Kozma was the roster casualty. Kozma saw a brief stretch of regular playing time in mid-May but his opportunities dried up in a hurry -- he had logged just 12 at-bats in the past two weeks. The 30-year-old will now be subjected to waivers.

  • Tigers' Pete Kozma: Transitions into bench role

Kozma is out of the lineup Sunday against the White Sox, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Kozma enjoyed a run of six consecutive starts in mid-May, but after batting just 4-for-25 over that stretch he has been buried on the bench ever since. The 30-year-old could be at risk of losing his spot on the active roster when Miguel Cabrera (hamstring) is likely reinstated from the 10-day disabled list during the upcoming week.

  • Tigers' Pete Kozma: Headed to majors

The Tigers are expected to purchase Kozma's contract Tuesday. Kozma will head to the big leagues after his contract was bought from Triple-A Toledo. The 30-year-old shortstop had a poor showing in the major leagues last season, slashing .111/.200/.178 in 39 games. He'll look to bounce back and provide meaningful contributions for Detroit, likely as a bench player.

  • Tigers' Pete Kozma: Sent to minors camp

The Tigers reassigned Kozma to their minor-league camp Thursday. Kozma made 39 appearances with the Rangers and Tigers last season, but his value came almost entirely on defense, as he slashed a porous .111/.200/.178 across 51 plate appearances. With higher-upside utility options on hand in JaCoby Jones and Niko Goodrum, it likely wasn't a tough decision for the Tigers to dismiss Kozma, who is expected to report to Triple-A Toledo to begin the season.

  • Rangers' Pete Kozma: Sent outright to Triple-A

Kozma cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Round Rock. Kozma was designated for assignment just a few days ago, but his lack of hitting at the big-league level deterred the other clubs in the league from plucking him off waivers. He'll remain in the Rangers organization as an organizational depth piece moving forward.
