AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell4H agoEthan Salas got the call he’d been dreaming of. But Day 1 in the big leagues — long airport delays, a late arrival, a Padres loss — didn’t go the way he dreamed it up. “The end goal was never to make it here,” he said afterward. “It’s obviously to stay.” https://t.co/B7k9j07Ok9 -
Kevin Acee@sdutKevinAcee6H agoEthan Salas arrives to Padres ready to help in playoff chase https://t.co/B7kD2WOcpX -
Kevin Acee@sdutKevinAcee6H ago“We’ve got to execute in those moments.” Padres don’t capitalize early, Reds do so late to even series https://t.co/lgbJanRJ3A -
AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell7H agoFinal: Reds 4, Padres 3 A rare rough one for Adrian Morejon. He surrendered two in the eighth -- as many as he'd allowed all August long -- and those runs proved decisive. The Padres got two homers from Fernando Tatis Jr. but went 0-for-10 with RISP. -
AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell9H agoFernando Tatis Jr. sprays an opposite-field homer, his 18th of the season, and the Padres lead, 2-1. Got outta here in a hurry. https://t.co/sTXhT5Uhnu -
AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell13H agoGame 139: Padres at Reds (Vásquez vs. Lodolo), 3:40 p.m. PT at Great American Ball Park No Salas. (Sort of expected vs. LHP) Samad Taylor takes over Luis Rengifo’s No. 2 spot vs. LHP. And without Rengifo, it stands to reason Fernando Tatis Jr. might get extra time at 2B. https://t.co/NCaAvDwpMv -
Kevin Acee@sdutKevinAcee14H agoPadres put in waiver claim on outfielder Luis Robert Jr., but Orioles were higher on list and got him. New team owners José E. Feliciano and Kwanza Jones OK’d additional $5 million it would have taken ($3 mil remaining this season + $2 mil buyout on club option for ‘27). -
Kevin Acee@sdutKevinAcee16H agoIn today’s Padres Daily: New day; Machado plays through; King of grind; Salas is a rare promotion + tidbits https://t.co/lrbnpK2oNc -
AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell1D agoSounds like Salas was squarely in the mix for a callup anyway. But injuries to Sheets and Rengifo, plus Salas' recent performance, made it clear the Padres needed his skill set and lefty bat. No set role heading in. Salas is expected to catch, DH and serve as a bench bat. -
AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell1D agoAnswer's yes. With rosters set to expand tomorrow, the Padres are calling up top prospect Ethan Salas. If he gets into a game at catcher, he'd be the youngest catcher to appear in a big league game since Pudge Rodríguez in 1991. https://t.co/XIWlmSCF16
