Jared Hoying: Heading overseas
Hoying will sign with the KT Wiz of the KBO for the remainder of the season, Daniel Kim of MBC Sports+ reports.
Hoying's contract was selected by the Blue Jays last week, but he was quickly sent back to the minors. The 32-year-old will now return to the KBO, where he had been playing since 2017.

Blue Jays' Jared Hoying: Retreats to minors
The Blue Jays optioned Hoying to Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.
Hoying's demotion clears a spot on the active roster for Teoscar Hernandez (personal), who was reinstated from the paternity list in a corresponding move. During his brief time with Toronto, Hoying logged three plate appearances over two games in what marked the 32-year-old outfielder's first big-league action since 2017.

Blue Jays' Jared Hoying: Contract selected by Blue Jays
Hoying's contract was selected by the Blue Jays on Thursday.
Hoying spent the last few seasons overseas, but he signed a minor-league contract with Toronto at the end of May. He hit .333 with three home runs and seven RBI in seven games with Triple-A Buffalo and will now join the major-league roster. The 32-year-old should serve mainly as a depth option but could see some playing time in the outfield while Teoscar Hernandez and Jonathan Davis are on the paternity list.

Jared Hoying: Cut loose by Angels
The Angels agreed to release Hoying from his minor-league contract Sunday, Steve Adams of MLBTradeRumors.com reports.
Hoying was inked less than a month ago to bolster the team's organizational outfield depth, but with his path to the majors somewhat muddled, the 28-year-old plans to pursue his options elsewhere. According to Adams, Hoying has drawn interest from the Korean Baseball Organization, where he would likely be able to secure a more sizable guaranteed contract.

Jared Hoying: To play in South Korea
Hoying signed with the Hanwha Eagles of the KBO for $700,000, Dan Kurtz of MyKBO.net reports.
The 28-year-old outfielder has seen time in the majors with the Rangers in each of the last two seasons, but never profiled as more than a fourth or fifth outfielder. He hit .220/.262/.288 with one home run and four steals in 126 MLB plate appearances. It is a one-year deal, so he could attempt to come back stateside later this decade.

Angels' Jared Hoying: Inks minors pact with Angels
Hoying signed a minor-league deal with the Angels that includes an invite to spring training, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.
He had been back and forth between Triple-A and the majors with the Rangers over the last two years, but hit the market after being removed from the 40-man roster. Hoying, 28, has a career .220/.262/.288 slash line with one home run and four steals in 126 plate appearances in the majors. His top asset is his speed on the bases. The Angels have a firm trio in the outfield, but they lack much proven depth, so Hoying could once again reach the majors in 2018.

Rangers' Jared Hoying: Dropped from 40-man roster
Hoying cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday.
Hoying has been up and down with the Rangers multiple times over the past two seasons, compiling a combined .220/.262/.288 line in 126 plate appearances. The 28-year-old has hit a combined .254/.308/.465 across five seasons with Triple-A Round Rock.

Rangers' Jared Hoying: Returns to majors
Hoying was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Monday.
Hoying spent some time with the big club earlier in the year but was never able to get things going, slashing just .210/.254/.290 in 62 at-bats before being returned to the minors. He'll serve as outfield depth for the remainder of the season.

Rangers' Jared Hoying: Ticketed for minor leagues
Hoying was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Monday.
Hoying spent a good amount of time in the starting lineup while Carlos Gomez was out of commission, but with plenty of other outfield options available at manager Jeff Banister's disposal, the 28-year-old will return to the minors. During his cup of coffee with the Rangers, Hoying only managed to hit .210 while striking out 20 times in 62 at-bats. He'll likely dwell in the minors as an organizational depth piece until another injury strikes the big-league outfield.

Rangers' Jared Hoying: Sits out third straight game
Hoying is out of the lineup Sunday against the Nationals, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
With no designated hitter spot available for the three-game series in Washington, the Rangers have prioritized offense over defense in starting Delino DeShields in center field, relegating Hoying to a bench role. At least until Mike Napoli (back) returns from the disabled list, there should be room for both Hoying and DeShields in the lineup when the Rangers resume play against American League clubs.

Rangers' Jared Hoying: Delivers three hits, scores two runs Tuesday
Hoying went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI in Tuesday's 10-8 win over the Mets.
In addition to the strong showing on offense, Hoying made one of the highlights of the night in the field, robbing Jay Bruce of a home run to straightaway center in the third inning. Even after reaching base three times Tuesday, Hoying still sports an unremarkable .278 on-base percentage on the season, but his defensive skills should keep him in the lineup on a fairly regular basis until Carlos Gomez (hamstring) comes off the disabled list.

Rangers' Jared Hoying: Looks like primary center fielder
Hoying will start in center field and bat ninth Wednesday against the Rays.
The Rangers have yet to use Joey Gallo in the outfield since Adrian Beltre came off the disabled list earlier this week, but it's expected that he'll gradually see more time in left field with Beltre and Mike Napoli serving as the primary corner infielders. That will result in Hoying and Delino DeShields jockeying for playing time in center field, and for the time being, it looks as though Hoying may have the edge. While he doesn't provide much of an impact at the plate, Hoying is regarded as a stronger defender at the position than DeShields, who hasn't helped his case for regular at-bats by slumping at the plate of late. DeShields is on the bench for the third time in four games and may only receive consistent starts against left-handed pitching until Carlos Gomez (hamstring) returns from the DL.

Rangers' Jared Hoying: Headed to bench Tuesday
Hoying is out of the lineup Tuesday against Tampa Bay, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
After starting four games in a row, Hoying will take a seat Tuesday night while Delino DeShields heads to center field. Hoying hasn't done much at the plate over 11 games this season, as he's hitting .235 and striking out in 27 percent of his plate appearances.

Rangers' Jared Hoying: Steals first base of season
Hoying went 0-for-2 with two walks, a stolen base and a run scored in Monday's 10-8 loss to the Rays.
Manager Jeff Banister elected to bench Delino DeShields for the second straight game, allowing Hoying to stick in the lineup as the Rangers' center fielder. While Hoying remains the Rangers' top defensive outfielder, third baseman Adrian Beltre's (calf) return from the disabled list Monday could create a domino effect that results in Hoying sitting more frequently. Banister has said the Rangers intend to give Joey Gallo, who had been the everyday third baseman prior to Beltre's return, regular at-bats at either first base or left field going forward. When Gallo plays the outfield, it's likely that two of Hoying, DeShields and Ryan Rua will be forced to the bench.

Rangers' Jared Hoying: Heads to bench Wednesday
Hoying is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Red Sox.
Left-hander Chris Sale is hurling for Boston on Wednesday, so Hoying will get the night off to avoid a lefty-on-lefty matchup. Delino DeShields will slide over to center field to fill in for him.

Rangers' Jared Hoying: Wears golden sombrero Friday
Hoying struck out in all four of his at-bats in Friday's 5-3 win over the Tigers.
Hoying may have piqued some interest in deeper mixed or AL-only leagues after falling a triple shy of the cycle in a four-hit, three-run performance Wednesday against the Phillies, but he's gone just 1-for-11 in his other three starts since being promoted to the big leagues earlier this week. The 28-year-old still figures to see the bulk of starts in center field while Carlos Gomez (hamstring) is sidelined for the next 4-6 weeks, but Hoying should be viewed as more of a defensive specialist and is likely to occupy the No. 8 or 9 spot in most games.

Rangers' Jared Hoying: Pops first career big-league homer
Hoying went 4-for-4 with a double, a home run, three runs scored and two RBI in Wednesday's 9-3 win over the Phillies.
Hitting eighth in the order, Hoying paced a 17-hit Rangers attack with his first career major-league home run, a two-run shot in the fifth inning. The 28-year-old has spent most of the last five seasons at Triple-A, hitting 80 homers in 453 games for Round Rock, but he's getting a chance to show that he can stick in the big leagues with regular starts in center field in place of Carlos Gomez (hamstring).

Rangers' Jared Hoying: Could see consistent starts in center field
Hoying, who was recalled from Triple-A Round on Tuesday, could see regular reps in center field while he remains with the Rangers, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports. "We are going to let [Hoying] play and see if we can get him going," manager Jeff Banister said.
There was some thought that the Rangers might have Delino DeShields move from left to center field with Carlos Gomez (hamstring) ruled out for 4-to-6 weeks, but it looks like Hoying will instead get the first crack at filling the void in center, at least against right-handed pitching. Hoying went 0-for-3 with a strikeout while batting out of the ninth spot in the lineup during Tuesday's win over the Phillies, and doesn't carry much fantasy intrigue after slashing .242/.336/.477 across 146 plate appearances with Round Rock prior to his promotion. That said, Hoying is regarded as a plus defender in center field, which might be enough to afford him consistent starts at that position over the likes of DeShields and Ryan Rua, who are better suited for corner-outfield duties.

Rangers' Jared Hoying: Starting in center on first day up
Hoying had his contract purchased from Triple-A Round Rock and will start in center field Tuesday against the Phillies.
As expected, Hoying will head to the big leagues to provide outfield depth after Carlos Gomez (hamstring) was placed on the DL. It's unclear if Hoying will fill an everyday role in center field or if he'll split time there with Delino DeShields Jr. or another outfielder, but that should become clearer in the next few days.

Rangers' Jared Hoying: To be called up to majors
Hoying will be called up by the Rangers imminently, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Hoying owned a .242/.336/.477 batting line powered by seven home runs for Triple-A Round Rock. He had an out clause in his contract that could have been exercised Monday, and the Rangers wanted to ensure they held onto the slugging outfielder. Most importantly, Hoying has the ability to play center field, and they'll need somebody else on their roster capable of covering ground with Carlos Gomez out for a month or more.
