• Tyler Anderson: No deal with Halos after all

  The Angels did not sign Anderson to a minor-league contract as was reported Wednesday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Anderson was not listed on the Angels' non-roster players invited to spring training, and Bollinger relays that the error was on MLB's transactions page showing Anderson signing with the Halos. Anderson went 2-8 across 26 starts for the Angels in 2025 and posted a 4.56 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 104:57 K:BB over 136.1 innings.

• Angels' Tyler Anderson: Back with Halos on MiLB deal

  Anderson (oblique) signed a minor-league contract with the Angels on Wednesday. After signing a $39 million deal with the Angels in November 2022, Anderson largely disappointed during his three seasons in Anaheim, posting a collective 18-29 record, 4.53 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 8.6 K-BB% over 456.2 innings. Though he'll end up rejoining the Angels, the 36-year-old lefty isn't included among the team's initial list of non-roster invitees for big-league spring training and is seemingly ticketed for the Triple-A Salt Lake rotation. Anderson -- who closed last season on the injured list due to an oblique strain -- is presumably healthy now, but he looks like he'll need to prove he still has something left in the tank at the Triple-A level before the Angels consider adding him back to the 40-man roster.

• Angels' Tyler Anderson: Throwing again, but iffy to return

  Anderson reported to the Angels' spring training facility in Arizona last Thursday to begin a throwing program, but he's yet to make much progress in his recovery from a left oblique strain, MLB.com reports. The Angels aren't closing the door on Anderson returning from the 15-day injured list for the final week of the season, but the lefty will need to ramp up quickly to have any chance at contributing over the last few games, even as a reliever. Before being deactivated Aug. 31, Anderson went 2-8 with a 4.56 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 104:57 K:BB in 136.1 innings over 26 starts with the Halos.

The veteran left-hander delivered five scoreless frames Friday in Houston, but that could end up being his final start of the campaign. Anderson will be eligible to be reinstated Sept. 14, but oblique injuries often require longer than 15 days of recovery time. Anderson made his first start in seven days, as he got some extra time off during the week while on paternity leave. The additional rest appears to have served him well -- the veteran lefty kept the Astros off the scoreboard during his five frames after pitching to a poor 6.13 ERA across his previous eight outings. Anderson should be good to make his next start on his regular schedule, so he's slated to face the Royals on the road next week.

Anderson's given up eight homers across 14.2 innings in his last three starts. He remains without a win since April 18 and sports a 4.63 ERA with a 1.40 WHIP and 97:47 K:BB through 23 starts (122.1 innings) this season. He's currently lined up for a tough home matchup with the Dodgers in his next outing.
