Ross signed a minor-league contract with the Tigers on Saturday.
Ross hasn't appeared in the minors since 2017, but he'll sign a minor-league deal with Detroit heading into 2021. He could serve as a non-roster invitee this spring, but he's unlikely to be a significant factor in the big leagues during the regular season.

Red Sox's Robbie Ross: Elects free agency
Ross (back) was reinstated from the 60-day DL on Thursday, and chose to hit the open market instead of accepting an outright assignment from the team, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
Ross was placed on the disabled list in late May with inflammation in his throwing elbow, and then underwent back surgery in late August that effectively ended his 2017 season. He should be fully recovered by the time spring training rolls around, and will now look to latch on with a different organization within the next few months.

Ross (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Monday, Jen McCaffrey of MassLive.com reports.
Moving Ross to the 60-day DL creates room on the 40-man roster to accommodate the promotion of Rafael Devers from Triple-A Pawtucket. Ross is without a clear timetable for returning from the elbow injury.

Red Sox's Robbie Ross: Heads to Florida for rehab
Ross (elbow) has started rehabbing at the Red Sox's spring training facility in Florida, Evan Drellich of CSN New England reports.
Ross has been dealing with elbow inflammation since he was with Boston in May, and he only now seems to be taking the first steps toward a full recovery. The 28-year-old southpaw has allowed seven earned runs through nine innings with the big club this season -- a sharp decline after he'd established himself as a relatively reliable middle-relief arm over the past couple years.

Red Sox's Robbie Ross: Back in majors but remains on DL
Ross had his minor-league option reversed Thursday, Evan Drellich of CSN New England reports. He has returned to the Red Sox's major-league roster and has been placed on the 10-day disabled list.
It was determined that the lefty's injury was suffered while he was a major-leaguer, so Ross was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket. He will camp out on the big-league DL while accruing more service time before another decision is made on the frequent shuttle rider.

Ross has been placed on the 7-day minor-league disabled list with inflammation in his throwing elbow, Evan Drellich of CSN New England reports.
The Red Sox expect to learn more about Ross' situation later this week. He had been expected to be Boston's lead left-hander out of the bullpen but has faltered (7.00 ERA, nine innings) in eight appearances and was recently demoted to Triple-A Pawtucket for a second time. According to BrooksBaseball.net, he's experienced a drop in velocity this season, going from 94 mph in 2016 to 92 in 2017 and bottoming out at 91.2 in his final appearance for Boston. Ross has not pitched since his most recent demotion.

Red Sox's Robbie Ross: Returns to minors
Ross was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday, Evan Drellich of CSN New England reports.
Ross has struggled a bit since his return to the majors, allowing five runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings pitched. With the Red Sox hoping for more out of their bullpen, Ross' minor-league options and recent performance ultimately spelled his doom. He will likely be back in Boston when the Red Sox need bullpen help again, but for the time being, Noe Ramirez will take his spot on the roster.
