Padres' Yu Darvish: Quiets Astros for six innings
Darvish (6-3) allowed three hits and two walks while striking out three over six scoreless innings to earn the win over the Astros on Monday.
This was the best of Darvish's three starts since he returned from an extended absence due to elbow inflammation and a personal matter. This was his fifth scoreless outing of the season. The veteran right-hander trimmed his ERA to 3.21 with a 1.11 WHIP and 65:19 K:BB over 70 innings across 14 starts. Darvish's next start is projected to be at home in a favorable matchup versus the White Sox.

Padres' Yu Darvish: Earns win over Mariners
Darvish (5-3) got the win over the Mariners on Tuesday, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out five over five innings.
The damage against Darvish was done early with solo home runs by Cal Raleigh and Luke Raley in the first and second inning. Darvish finished with three scoreless innings and got his first win since May 19. He tossed exactly 63 pitches for a second straight start since coming off the injured list and recorded five whiffs while throwing over 75 percent of his pitches for strikes. Darvish now owns a 3.52 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 62:17 K:BB in 64 innings. He lines up for a home start versus the Astros next week.

Padres' Yu Darvish: Struggles in return to rotation
Darvish did not factor into the decision in an extra-inning win over the Tigers on Wednesday, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks over 2.2 innings while striking out four.
Darvish had a hard time getting through Detroit's lineup right from the jump, giving up a solo homer to Matt Vierling with two outs in the first before needing 47 pitches to get through the first two frames. He would be relieved by Yuki Matsui with two outs in the third, marking his shortest outing of the campaign -- though that was somewhat expected in Darvish's first start since returning from the injured list due to elbow inflammation. The veteran right-hander will look for better results in his next start, which is currently projected for next week in Seattle.

The veteran right-hander is poised to make his first start for the Padres since May 29 after recovering from elbow inflammation. Darvish hasn't pitched for the Padres since May 29, but after throwing 66 pitches in a simulated game Friday and then completing a bullpen session Monday, he's in the line to return to action versus Detroit. Because he hasn't pitched in a formal game environment since making a minor-league rehab appearance June 19, Darvish could have a workload restrictions imposed on him in his return to the big-league rotation.

Darvish (elbow) is expected to rejoin the Padres' rotation Wednesday against the Tigers, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Darvish threw 66 pitches in a simulated game against minor leaguers last Friday and followed that up with a bullpen session Monday. The Padres have not yet confirmed that Darvish is in line to return Wednesday, but things appear to be pointing in that direction. Darvish hasn't made a start for the Padres since late May and his one rehab start came back on June 19, so it would not be a surprise if there's some rust Wednesday.

Padres' Yu Darvish: Hurls 66 pitches vs. minor leaguers
Darvish (personal/elbow) threw 66 pitches over four innings Friday in a controlled game against Cincinnati minor leaguers, Bernie Wilson of the Associated Press reports.
Darvish continues to ramp up as he looks to return from an absence of over three months, initially due to an elbow injury and then because of a personal matter. The veteran right-hander threw on his own for a period while he was away from the team, and he's since tossed a bullpen and a sim game in addition to Friday's outing against minor leaguers, so he's not as far off as a starting pitcher might typically be after such a long absence. Per Wilson, Darvish felt fine following Friday's controlled game, but Darvish's next steps are yet to be determined.

Padres' Yu Darvish: Throws simulated game
Padres manager Mike Shildt said Monday on 97.3 The Fan that Darvish (elbow) threw a simulated game Sunday which included three "up and downs."
Shildt added that Darvish recovered well from the session and the next step will either be another simulated game or perhaps a rehab start. Darvish was recently shifted from the restricted list back to the 15-day injured list, but he's considered healthy and it's all about rebuilding his stamina at this point. There should be more clarity on a potential timetable later this week.
