  • AJ Ramos: Brings end to career

Ramos (shoulder) announced Wednesday via his personal Twitter account that he has elected to retire from professional baseball. Ramos' decision to step away from baseball comes one day after the Angels released him from his minor-league deal with the club. A 2016 All-Star selection for the Marlins, Ramos has been limited to seven appearances at the big-league level across the past three seasons while he's struggled to return to form following June 2018 surgery to repair a torn labrum. He was set to miss the entire 2022 season after suffering a torn capsule in his right shoulder during a March 27 Cactus League appearance, and the 35-year-old wasn't eager to embark on another arduous rehab. He'll retire with a lifetime 3.04 ERA and 99 saves across stops with the Marlins, Mets, Rockies and Angels.

  • AJ Ramos: Back on open market

The Angels released Ramos (shoulder) on Tuesday. Ramos suffered a torn capsule in his right shoulder last month and won't be available to pitch in 2022, so his release doesn't come as a major surprise. Given that he's 35 years old and has made only seven relief appearances in the majors since undergoing surgery in June 2018 to address a torn labrum, Ramos' playing days could be over.

  • Angels' AJ Ramos: Out for season with shoulder injury

The Angels announced Tuesday that Ramos suffered a torn capsule in his throwing shoulder and will miss the entire 2022 season, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Ramos will presumably need surgery to address the injury, which could prove to be a career-ender. The 35-year-old, who was attending camp as a non-roster invitee, has made just seven relief appearances in the majors over the past three years. The one-time All-Star reliever had already struggled to return to form since undergoing surgery in June 2018 to address a torn labrum, and the fact that he's dealing with yet another significant shoulder injury doesn't bode well for his chances of re-emerging as an MLB-caliber bullpen arm in the latter half of his thirties.

  • Angels' AJ Ramos: Exits with apparent injury

Ramos was removed from Sunday's Cactus League game against the Giants with an apparent injury, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Ramos entered Sunday's game in the fourth inning and allowed a hit and no walks while striking out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, but he was removed with one out in the fifth frame. The nature and severity of the issue aren't yet clear.

  • Angels' AJ Ramos: Joins Halos on MiLB deal

Ramos signed a minor-league contract with the Angels on Friday that includes an invite to big-league camp, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports. Ramos pitched 4.2 scoreless frames for the Angels last season and will return to the fold for 2022. The veteran right-hander could make the Opening Day roster with a strong showing during the shortened spring training.

  • Angels' AJ Ramos: Contract selected by Angels

The Angels selected Ramos' contract Thursday. Ramos has spent the entire season at Triple-A Salt Lake, where he has posted a 5.26 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in 53 innings. After appearing out of the Rockies' bullpen to throw 2.2 innings in 2020, Ramos now appears to be set to pitch in the same role for the Angels to close the 2021 campaign.

  • Angels' AJ Ramos: Ready if called upon

Ramos has been throwing at the Angels' alternate training site and would be "close to ready" if summoned to the big club, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Ramos inked a big-league deal with the Angels in late March, so he didn't have time to fully ramp up during spring training. However, the right-hander has been working his arm into shape at the alternate site and now appears to be at least close to capable of throwing in big-league games. Ramos has pitched a mere 2.2 big-league innings since 2018, so it's unclear where he ranks on the organization's reliever depth chart.

  • Angels' AJ Ramos: Inks minor-league deal

Ramos signed a minor-league contract with the Angels on Wednesday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. Ramos missed the entire 2019 season due to a torn labrum and spent most of the 2020 campaign at the Rockies' alternate training site. The right-hander made just three relief appearances for Colorado last year and allowed one run on four hits and three walks while striking out one over 2.2 innings. Ramos will begin the 2021 season at the Angels' alternate training site.

  • Rockies' AJ Ramos: Added to active roster

Ramos was recalled by the Rockies on Saturday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. Ramos spent time with the Dodgers and Cubs at their alternate training sites earlier this season prior to signing a minor-league deal with the Rockies. He'll now be in line to make his first major-league appearance since May of 2018 after undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum. The former All-Star has been declining for years and likely won't play a prominent role in the Rockies' bullpen over the final few games of the 2020 season.

  • Rockies' AJ Ramos: Signs with Rockies

Ramos signed a minor-league contract with the Rockies on Friday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports. Ramos will land with the Rockies just one day after being released by the Cubs. He should serve as organizational depth to begin his time with the team.

  • AJ Ramos: Cut loose by Cubs

Ramos was released by the Cubs on Thursday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports. Ramos had been working at the alternate training site, but obviously didn't show enough of his old self to warrant consideration for a promotion.

  • Cubs' AJ Ramos: Links up with Cubs

Ramos signed a minor-league deal with the Cubs on Sunday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports. The 33-year-old was released by the Dodgers on Friday, but it didn't take long for him to find another opportunity. Ramos will report to the alternate training site but could join the Cubs quickly if he makes a good first impression. The right-hander didn't pitch last season while recovering from surgery to repair a torn labrum.

  • AJ Ramos: Released by Dodgers

Ramos was released by the Dodgers on Friday. A former All-Star closer, Ramos signed a minor-league deal with the Dodgers in early July with the hope of contributing to the big-league bullpen. However, the right-hander did not make the team's Opening Day roster, and Los Angeles ultimately decided that he does not fit into their plans moving forward. Ramos has not pitched in the majors since 2018, but he'll now be free to try to catch on with another organization.

  • Dodgers' AJ Ramos: Won't make Opening Day roster

Ramos is not expected to make the Dodgers' initial 30-man roster, Michael J. Duarte of NBC LA reports. Ramos has a wealth of major-league experience, though he hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2018. His chance at a roster spot may have taken a hit when the Dodgers signed Jake McGee on Tuesday. While Ramos won't have a bullpen spot at the start of the campaign, it is certainly possible that he will contribute in 2020 if the need for a bullpen arm arises.

  • Dodgers' AJ Ramos: Tosses bullpen session

Ramos threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Wednesday, Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports. Ramos was signed by the Dodgers on July 2, and it didn't take long for the veteran reliever to report to camp and get to work. The 33-year-old hasn't pitched in a professional game since 2018, but he could nonetheless claim a spot in the Dodgers' bullpen with a strong showing in summer camp.

  • Dodgers' AJ Ramos: Slated for bullpen session

Ramos has recently thrown off flat ground and will likely toss a bullpen session by Wednesday in preparation for potentially hurling in an intrasquad game in 3-4 days, Eric Stephen of TrueBlueLA.com reports. Ramos joined the Dodgers on a minor-league deal July 2 and did not pitch at all in 2019, but manager Dave Roberts noted that the reliever is "in great shape" at the start of camp. That could help Ramos in his bid to make the club's active Opening Day roster, though he's unlikely to pitch in high-leverage situations out of the gate given the team's bullpen depth.

  • Dodgers' AJ Ramos: Added to 60-man pool

Ramos was added to the Dodgers' 60-man player pool Monday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports. He just signed a minor-league deal earlier this month and will provide bullpen depth. If he makes the 30-man roster for Opening Day, Ramos would likely be limited to low-leverage opportunities.

  • Dodgers' AJ Ramos: Lands minor-league contract

Ramos signed a minor-league contract with the Dodgers on Thursday and will join the 60-man player pool, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. Ramos posted a video Tuesday of him pitching in a simulated game, and he'll be able to compete for a spot with the Dodgers' pitching staff as part of the team's 60-man player pool. The 33-year-old hasn't played since June of 2018, when he underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder. However, he appears to have made a full recovery based on the pitches he displayed during his simulated game.

  • AJ Ramos: Eyeing big-league comeback

Ramos (shoulder) posted a video Tuesday on his personal Twitter account that features him pitching in a simulated game. Since undergoing surgery in June 2018 to repair a torn labrum, Ramos has been conducting his lengthy rehab under the supervision of Cressey Sports Performance in Florida. Based on the data provided by Cressey in Ramos' video, he seems have made a full recovery from surgery, as he tossed a pair of fastballs that sat in the 93-to-95 mile-per-hour range and generated a fair amount of spin on his secondary offerings. At this point, there have been few rumblings about Ramos signing with a team, and with teams having set their 60-man roster pools heading into summer camp, the 33-year-old may struggle to find work at the MLB level in 2020. A one-time All-Star, Ramos owns a career 3.07 ERA and has notched 99 saves in 366 big-league innings.

  • Mets' AJ Ramos: Could miss more than 12 months

Ramos (shoulder) could be out for up to a year and a half, Matt Ehalt of The Bergen Record reports. Ramos' shoulder injury apparently involved a loose shoulder capsule. He underwent season-ending surgery in mid-June. If his recovery ends up taking the full year and a half, he could miss the entirety of the 2019 season as well.
