Royals' Hector Neris: Latches on with Kansas City
Neris agreed to a minor-league contract with the Royals on Monday, which includes an invitation to spring training, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Neris will receive an opportunity to make a big-league roster after putting pen to paper on a deal with Kansas City. He bounced between three teams a season ago, posting a 6.75 ERA and 1.69 WHIP with a 35:16 K:BB and a pair of blown saves across 26.2 innings.

Hector Neris: Opts for free agency
Neris cleared waivers Friday and elected free agency, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Neris gave up seven earned runs over 11.2 innings during his stint with the Astros before being DFA'd by the team Tuesday. Rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Sugar Land, the 36-year-old will now test his value in the open market. A major-league deal may be hard to come by, however, as he currently owns a 6.75 ERA and 1.69 WHIP through 26.2 innings between three different teams.

Astros' Hector Neris: DFA'd by Astros
The Astros designated Neris for assignment Tuesday.
The veteran right-hander inked a deal with Houston in early July and made 12 appearances during his month-plus with the club, allowing seven earned runs in 11.2 innings. Neris has also pitched for the Angels and Atlanta this season, and he has a combined 6.75 ERA across 26.2 frames between the three clubs.

Astros' Hector Neris: Returns to Houston
Neris agreed to a one-year, major-league contract with the Astros on Saturday, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
After spending time with the Angels and Atlanta earlier this season, Neris will now return to Houston for his third stint with the Astros in the last four years. The 36-year-old right-hander will immediately be granted a spot in the big-league bullpen, despite owning a 7.80 ERA over 15 innings on the season. Houston is likely to deploy Neris in lower-leverage spots initially.

Hector Neris: Reaches free agency
The Angels released Neris on Thursday.
Neris has posted an ugly 7.81 ERA in 15 innings this season between Atlanta and Anaheim, though he has struck out 20 batters during that time. The veteran reliever should get another opportunity elsewhere, but he might have to pitch in the minors for a bit.

The Angels designated Neris for assignment Saturday.
It's been a rough season for Neris, who was DFA'd by Atlanta in late March and then posted a 5.14 ERA over 21 outings (14 innings) with the Angels. The veteran reliever has shown some promising signs, though -- he has 19 punchouts in those 14 frames while recording eight holds, and he hasn't given up an earned run in six of his past seven appearances. Neris' removal from the roster made room for Jose Fermin to be called up from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Angels' Hector Neris: Tosses scoreless frame
Neris (finger) struck out one during a scoreless inning in Monday's 4-3 victory over the Athletics.
Neris has been dealing with a blister on his pitching hand since Saturday, so it was good to see him deliver a strong outing on the way to Monday's win. He got through the eighth inning with ease, firing seven of his nine pitches for strikes. The team will presumably check in on the right-hander Tuesday morning to see how he bounces back from Monday's relief appearance.

Angels' Hector Neris: Dealing with finger blister
Neris suffered a right finger blister during his appearance against the Dodgers on Saturday and was held out of Sunday's series finale due to the issue, per MLB.com.
The blister may help explain Neris' rough outing Saturday -- he gave up three runs on two walks and a hit while uncorking a wild pitch without retiring any batters. This doesn't appear to be a serious injury for the veteran reliever, but the Angels probably will opt to hold him out until the blister is healed enough to no longer affect his throwing. Neris joined the Angels on a minor-league deal in mid-April and had tossed five straight scoreless outings before his blow-up Saturday.

Angels' Hector Neris: Joins MLB roster
The Angels selected Neris' contract from Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday.
Since signing a minor-league deal with the Halos on April 17, Neris has given up two earned runs while striking out eight batters and walking one across four innings. He'll now join the big-league bullpen to provide some additional reliever depth, replacing Michael Darrell-Hicks, who was optioned to Salt Lake in a corresponding move.

Neris was part of Atlanta's Opening Day roster but was quickly designated for assignment after he allowed five earned runs in one-plus innings over his first two appearances. He elected free agency after clearing waivers and will now look to bounce back with the Angels. He'll presumably report to Triple-A Salt Lake and could join Los Angeles' bullpen sometime this summer if he returns to form.

Braves' Hector Neris: Making case for bullpen spot
Neris gave up a hit and a walk over a scoreless inning in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Phillies.
The veteran right-hander got the start on a bullpen day for Atlanta, and Neris was able to work around a Johan Rojas leadoff double. He's made only two spring appearances since signing an NRI deal in early March, but Neris has gotten up to speed fairly quickly and seems in line to begin the season with a spot on the 26-man roster, although he may work in middle relief rather than getting handed a setup role in front of closer Raisel Iglesias.

Neris served as the Cubs' closer for most of 2024, logging 18 saves in 59.1 innings. However, he'll settle for a minor-league deal after logging a 1.40 WHIP and 13.8 K-BB% -- his worst such marks since the 2020 season. Neris could make the big club in a mid-leverage role.
