  • Mariners' Michael Mariot: Signs with Seattle

Mariot signed a minor-league contract with the Mariners on Thursday. Mariot was assigned to Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday, joining yet another team in his 15-year professional career. The right-hander appeared in one game with the Reds last season, giving up one run on four hits and a walk while striking out two batters over 2.2 frames. He'll look to earn a shot with Seattle's major-league roster down the road.

  • Michael Mariot: Elects free agency

Mariot elected to become a free agent Tuesday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Mariot spent most of 2023 in Triple-A Louisville, where he posted a 6.49 ERA and 1.59 WHIP through 51.1 innings. However, after making just one appearance in the majors -- his first since 2016 -- the 34-year-old reliever will now look for a better opportunity elsewhere.

  • Reds' Michael Mariot: Designated for assignment

Mariot was designated for assignment by the Reds on Tuesday. Mariot made his first major-league appearance in seven years Monday versus the Mariners and allowed one earned run on four hits and one walk over 2.2 innings of relief. Kevin Herget will take his place on the 40-man roster as he returns to the Reds' bullpen ahead of Tuesday night's game against Seattle.

  • Reds' Michael Mariot: Added to roster

The Reds selected Mariot's contract from Triple-A Louisville on Monday, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Mariot could be used as a bulk reliever Monday and/or receive a start later this week as the Reds scramble for arms in the wake of a COVID-19 outbreak. It's the first stint in the majors since 2016 for the 34-year-old Mariot, who holds a 6.93 ERA this year at Louisville.

  • Reds' Michael Mariot: Stays in organization

The Reds outrighted Mariot to Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday. Cincinnati removed Mariot from the 40-man roster Sunday, but he'll remain within the organization after clearing waivers. The 34-year-old righty spent just one day with the big-league club this season and didn't appear in a game. Mariot holds a 2.59 ERA and 1.08 WHIP through 24.1 frames in Triple-A this season, though his chances at cracking the Reds' roster again seem low.

  • Reds' Michael Mariot: Dropped from 40-man roster

The Reds designated Mariot for assignment Sunday. Cincinnati removed Mariot from its 40-man roster and 26-man active roster to clear room for Ben Lively (pectoral), who was reinstated from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Sunday in Milwaukee. After being called up from Triple-A Louisville on Saturday, Mariot had been available in long relief, but he wasn't summoned from the bullpen in the Reds' 8-5 win over the Brewers.
