  • Jose Peraza: Headed to Mexico

Peraza signed with the Leones de Yucatan of the Mexican League on Thursday, Kiley McDaniel of ESPN.com reports. After electing free agency in November and receiving little interest in the open market, the 29-year-old infielder will look to make a name for himself in Mexico. Peraza hasn't appeared in the majors since 2021, and he slashed .261/.315/.366 across 147 plate appearances with Triple-A Syracuse last season.

  • Mets' Jose Peraza: Moved to minor-league camp

Peraza was reassigned to minor-league camp by the Mets on Saturday Assuming Peraza sticks around in the organization, he's likely headed to Triple-A Syracuse. The infielder played in 20 games in the Grapefruit League before the demotion with a .282/.333/.359 slash over 43 plate appearances. Peraza could help the Mets before the 2023 season comes to an end as a bench option, but he will have to be added to the 40-man roster for that to occur.

  • Mets' Jose Peraza: Healthy for spring training

Peraza (undisclosed) will start at second base and bat eighth in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. Peraza came off the bench for his spring debut Saturday, going 0-for-2 while manning the keystone for a few innings in the Mets' 5-2 win over the Marlins in a split-squad game. Now that Peraza will be making his first start of the Grapefruit League slate, it appears safe to conclude that he's healthy again after he closed the 2022 campaign on the 7-day injured list for the Red Sox's Triple-A affiliate in Worcester. Peraza is attending Mets big-league camp as a non-roster invitee and will most likely open the upcoming season at Triple-A Syracuse.

The 28-year-old will compete in spring training for a reserve role.

  • Yankees' Jose Peraza: Gets minor-league deal with Yankees

Peraza signed a minor-league contract with the Yankees on Monday, Eli Fishman of Pinstriped Pros reports. Primarily a second baseman -- though he can also play around the diamond in a pinch -- Peraza hit .204/.266/.380 with six home runs and one steal in 64 games with the Mets last season. He gives the Yankees some extra infield depth after Tyler Wade moved on from the organization earlier this offseason.

  • Jose Peraza: Becomes free agent

Peraza declined an outright assignment to the minors Friday and elected free agency. Peraza filled in for the injury-plagued Mets during the first half but wound up missing most of the second half with a fractured finger. His defensive versatility and speed could help him land somewhere this offseason in a bench role, but his .229/.279/.353 slash line over the last three seasons makes him rather unexciting even in that capacity.

  • Mets' Jose Peraza: Activated by Mets

Peraza (finger) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Peraza spent just over two weeks at Triple-A Syracuse on a rehab assignment, and he hit .250 with two doubles, four runs, four RBI and a stolen base. The 27-year-old had been on the injured list since July 20 due to a fractured right middle finger, and he'll serve as utility depth for the major-league club after Albert Almora was sent down Wednesday.

  • Mets' Jose Peraza: Rehabbing at Triple-A

Peraza (finger) began a rehab assignment at Triple-A Syracuse on Aug. 31 and has gone 9-for-36 (.250 average) with four runs, four RBI, a stolen base and a 2:2 BB:K in 10 games. The veteran infielder has been on the 10-day injured list since July 20 after fracturing a finger on his right hand while turning a double play in a game against the Reds. Since Peraza has been on the shelf, the Mets acquired Javier Baez and got Francisco Lindor back from the IL, so the team doesn't have much of a need for Peraza to provide depth in the middle infield. He'll likely be activated from the IL and optioned to Syracuse once his rehab window comes to a close.

  • Mets' Jose Peraza: Pops fifth homer

Peraza went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in a 6-2 loss to the Nationals during the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. The infielder spoiled Jon Lester's bid for a seven-inning shutout, but it was the only highlight of the nightcap for the Mets. Each of Peraza's last two hits have left the yard, giving him five homers on the year, but he's seeing little playing time at the moment and remains a likely candidate to lose his roster spot when Jeff McNeil (hamstring) returns.

  • Mets' Jose Peraza: Losing work to Guillorme

Peraza is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs. Peraza will sit for the third day in a row in favor of Luis Guillorme, who appears to have overtaken him as the Mets' top option at second base. Since being recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on April 30, Peraza has handled a near-everyday role for the banged-up Mets for much of the past month and a half, batting .209 with four home runs and no stolen bases across 98 plate appearances. If Jeff McNeil (hamstring) returns from the 10-day injured list this weekend, Peraza could be optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move, while Guillorme moves into more of a utility role in the infield.
