Rob Segedin: Retires after career-ending injury
Segedin retired from professional baseball last year after battling ongoing complications in his recovery from November 2017 surgery on his right wrist, Pedro Moura of The Athletic reports.
Segedin appeared in 53 regular-season games at the big-league level between 2016 and 2017, slashing .226/.282/.355 with two home runs in 103 plate appearances with the Dodgers. Though he returned from the wrist surgery -- his second procedure of that same year to address the injury -- to join the Dodgers for spring training in 2018, he only logged 134 plate appearances at Triple-A Oklahoma City before being removed from the 40-man roster in late August. News of Segedin's retirement flew under the radar until the 30-year-old recently filed a lawsuit alleging negligence on the part of the Dodgers' hand consultant who performed his most recent surgery, Dr. Steven Shin. Though his playing career is now over, Segedin remains involved in baseball as a player information assistant in the Phillies organization.

Segedin is currently away from the team as he awaits the birth of his child. Once he becomes available again, he'll report to Oklahoma City. While Segedin could see occasional time with the Dodgers as a reserve option, he figures to spend most of his time at the Triple-A level this season. The 29-year-old slashed .320/.347/.515 over 25 games at Oklahoma City in 2017.

Dodgers' Rob Segedin: Out with illness
Segedin (wrist), along with seven other Dodgers, is not traveling with the team due to an illness, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Dodgers' Rob Segedin: Sent to Triple-A
Segedin was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
Just days after being activated from the 60-day disabled list, Segedin gets sent to Triple-A so the Dodgers can make room on their roster for first baseman Adrian Gonzalez. The move doesn't come as a surprise, as some were expecting him to stay at Triple-A after he was activated from the disabled list anyway.

Dodgers' Rob Segedin: Returns from 60-day DL
Segedin (wrist) was reinstated from the 60-day disabled list Tuesday,

Dodgers' Rob Segedin: Begins rehab assignment Thursday
Segedin (wrist) heads out on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, True Blue LA's Eric Stephen reports.
Segedin has been out since mid-April while initially dealing with a toe injury, and then undergoing wrist surgery near the end of May. The outfielder will likely need an extended period of time shaking off the rust in the minors, and could remain with Oklahoma City depending on the route the club chooses to go. At this point, Segedin provides minimal impact for the Dodgers as organizational depth.

Dodgers' Rob Segedin: Transferred to 60-day DL
Segedin (wrist) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Friday.
The move was necessary to clear room on the 40-man roster for the newly acquired Jason Wheeler, and it makes sense given Segedin's recovery timetable. The 28-year-old underwent wrist surgery last week and had already been on the 10-day DL while dealing with turf toe. With the transaction being retroactive to April 19, when Segedin first went on the DL, he may be able to return sometime this July once he's fully recovered from his operation.

Dodgers' Rob Segedin: Out 4-6 weeks after wrist surgery
Segedin underwent surgery for an injured wrist and will miss 4-6 weeks, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports Friday.
Segedin had seen his rehab stagnate, as he had been out with a toe injury since April 19 without making significant progress. That injury that was originally expected to keep him out for perhaps a month. However, he suffered a separate wrist injury while rehabbing, and this new ailment could keep him off the field until the All-Star break. With outfielders like Brett Eibner getting chances for the Dodgers now, there's no guarantee Segedin will even make the major-league roster upon his return.

Dodgers' Rob Segedin: Rehab halts

The reserve outfielder was placed on the 10-day disabled list April 19. Segedin was initially expected to return sometime in mid-May, but these types of maladies can linger. He may not even rejoin the big-league club upon his return unless further injuries open up a role.

Dodgers' Rob Segedin: Called up, gets start Monday
Segedin was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to Monday's game. He got a spot-start at first base and went 1-for-3 with a run scored in a 4-2 loss to Arizona.
The 28-year-old was called up to replace Rich Hill (finger) on the 25-man roster. Segedin was immediately thrown into the starting lineup and came through for his club, scoring one of the Dodgers' two runs off of Robbie Ray on Monday. It is unclear if he will stay with the big club for the duration of Hill's DL stint, as the Dodgers appear to need more bullpen arms to offset their recent run of short outings from pitchers not named Clayton Kershaw.

Dodgers' Rob Segedin: Sent to Triple-A
Segedin was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday, Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Despite having a solid spring, slashing .406/.441/.844 with three homers across 32 at-bats, Segedin was likely optioned down due to his inexperience and presence of minor-league options. He'll start back in Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he slashed .319/.392/.598 across 373 at-bats last season, and continue to work for a call-up.

Dodgers' Rob Segedin: Returns from WBC with bang
Segedin returned to the Dodgers' lineup Saturday after playing for Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic. He went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and three RBI in a win over the White Sox.
Segedin has put together a strong spring spring, batting .379 (11-for-29) with three homers between his time with Team Italy and the Dodgers. Despite the results, he has a tough hill to climb to make the club's Opening Day roster. The Dodgers have a plethora of options (Chase Utley, Andre Ethier, Andrew Toles, Franklin Gutierrez, Scott Van Slyke, Enrique Hernandez, Chris Taylor and Charlie Culberson) competing for five roster spots this spring, and Segedin's inexperience and presence of minor league options may land him in the minors to begin the season.
