  • Noe Ramirez: Cut loose by Arizona

The Diamondbacks released Ramirez on Saturday. Rather than having him report to Triple-A Reno, the Diamondbacks opted to cut ties with Ramirez when he cleared waivers after being designated for assignment Thursday. The 32-year-old right-hander turned in a 5.22 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 51:26 K:BB while nabbing 11 holds over his 50 innings out of the Arizona bullpen this season prior to losing his spot on the 40-man roster.

  • Diamondbacks' Noe Ramirez: Designated for assignment

Ramirez was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on Thursday. After logging back-to-back seasons with a 3.00 ERA in 2020 and 2021, Ramirez has not been able to replicate that success this year. Following his appearance Tuesday that saw him give up three earned runs over one inning, Ramirez's ERA climbed to 5.22. If Ramirez is not claimed off waivers by another team, he could likely finish the season in Triple-A.

  • Diamondbacks' Noe Ramirez: Earns high-leverage hold

Ramirez struck out three over 1.1 scoreless innings to earn his 10th hold in Sunday's 13-1 win over the Phillies. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo planned to use Ramirez during a bullpen day, but his entrance coincided with the highest-leverage spot of the game. The Diamondbacks were ahead 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Philadelphia loaded the bases against Caleb Smith. In came Ramirez, who struck out Nick Castellanos and J.T. Realmuto to squelch the threat. It's been a rocky June for Ramirez, who gave up eight runs, 10 hits and three home runs over his previous four appearances, but the unflappable right-hander looked very much like the trusted reliever that posted a 2.76 ERA over 36 appearances out of Arizona's bullpen in 2021.

  • Diamondbacks' Noe Ramirez: Rocked for five runs

Ramirez recorded just two outs and surrendered five runs on five hits and a walk during his relief appearance in Tuesday's 14-8 loss to the Reds. Ramirez served up two of the Reds' five home runs on the night, with both Tommy Pham and Tyler Stephenson taking him deep. Through his first three appearances in June, Ramirez has pitched 2.1 innings while allowing eight runs on nine hits and two walks. The Diamondbacks are unlikely to entrust him with high-leverage work anytime soon.

  • Diamondbacks' Noe Ramirez: Shaky in relief

Ramirez allowed two runs on two hits and hit a batter over two-thirds of an inning in Monday's 5-4 win over Miami. Not only did Ramirez allow two runs of his own, but two inherited runners scored as well in the Marlins' four-run seventh inning. He had made six consecutive scoreless appearances before Monday. Ramirez, a trusted member of the bullpen that typically pitches the last third of games, has a 3.38 ERA, five holds, nine strikeouts and four walks over 10.2 innings.

  • Diamondbacks' Noe Ramirez: Works out of jam

Ramirez threw a scoreless inning of relief in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to Houston. Ramirez entered after starter Madison Bumgarner gave up a double and a walk to start the fifth inning. Ramirez was able to get out of the jam on just three pitches. This was Ramirez's third appearance, and he's allowed one one hit and one walk while striking out three over 3.2 innings. He was a bright spot in the Diamondbacks' bullpen over the second half of 2021. The 32-year-old right-hander earned the trust of manager Torey Lovullo and will be used in high-leverage spots.

  • Diamondbacks' Noe Ramirez: Avoids arbitration

Ramirez agreed to a one-year, $1.25 million deal with the Diamondbacks to avoid arbitration Tuesday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. Ramirez began 2021 with the Angels before latching on the with Diamondbacks, and he'll receive another opportunity in the desert. He posted a 2.76 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 29:11 K:BB over 32.2 innings for Arizona.

  • Diamondbacks' Noe Ramirez: Claims first save

Ramirez allowed an unearned run on one hit and one walk while striking out one in a third of an inning to earn the save in Thursday's 8-7 win over the Phillies. The Diamondbacks entered the ninth inning with an 8-2 lead, but shaky relief pitching and two fielding errors let Philadelphia back in. It was 8-5 with one runner on and two out when Ramirez took the mound. He walked the first batter he faced, followed by a passed ball and a two-run single, but he finally closed out the game with a three-pitch strikeout (all changeups) of Brad Miller. It was Ramirez's first save of the season and second of his career. It's unclear why manager Torey Lovullo eschewed Tyler Clippard for the save chance.

  • Diamondbacks' Noe Ramirez: Loses velo mid-outing

Ramirez has experienced diminished fastball velocity during his last two appearances, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. Ramirez recently returned from a three-week stay on the injured list due to a positive coronavirus test. The drop in velocity presented itself the deeper he got into an outing. The first time happened in Colorado on Saturday, the second of back-to-back days. It happened again Monday when he issued three walks. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo didn't view this as related to the illness, but rather, a mechanical issue.

  • Diamondbacks' Noe Ramirez: Can't hold lead

Ramirez allowed two runs on one hit and one walk in one inning of Saturday's 5-2 loss to Colorado. Ramirez, who was recently reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list, came on in the eighth inning to protect a 2-0 lead but failed in that endeavor. The right-hander walked the first batter faced, then was tagged for a two-run home run by pinch hitter Garrett Hampson. He had pitched in a similar role prior to his IL stint and was effective. Entering Saturday's game, Ramirez authored six consecutive scoreless outings, allowing one hit, walking none and striking out six while picking up four holds.

  • Diamondbacks' Noe Ramirez: Reinstated from injured list

Ramirez (undisclosed) was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list Thursday. Ramirez had been on the COVID-19 IL since July 30, but he was cleared to resume baseball activities last week and threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Friday. The right-hander shouldn't have any limitations following his absence and will be available out of the bullpen for Thursday's series finale against the Phillies.

  • Diamondbacks' Noe Ramirez: Placed on IL

Ramirez was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Friday. The Diamondbacks haven't announced whether Ramirez has tested positive for COVID-19, but he was one of several players placed on the injured list as the team deals with an outbreak. Once the right-hander is cleared to return, he could take on ninth-inning work after Joakim Soria was traded to the Blue Jays on Friday.

  • Diamondbacks' Noe Ramirez: Throws eighth inning

Ramirez struck out one over a scoreless eighth inning to record the hold in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Pirates. Ramirez has entered games in the eighth inning in seven of his last eight appearances, including three that ended up as saves for closer Joakim Soria. If the Diamondbacks eventually flip Soria to a contender, presumably the 31-year-old Ramirez would be in line for save opportunities, unless he's dealt as well. Since arriving in Arizona, Ramirez has a 2.77 ERA with six holds over 13 innings.

  • Diamondbacks' Noe Ramirez: Sets up for closer

Ramirez struck out three over a scoreless eighth inning and recorded a hold in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Cubs. Ramirez was manager Torey Lovullo's choice with Arizona up 2-1 after seven innings, but he had issues. Chicago's Javier Baez struck out on a wild pitch and reached first base with two outs. Ramirez then hit Kris Bryant before striking out Patrick Wisdom to end the threat. Closer Joakim Soria blew up in the ninth, turning a potential win into a loss. Ramirez has a 3.27 ERA, 13 strikeouts and four holds over 11 innings since Arizona selected his contract from Triple-A Reno.

  • Diamondbacks' Noe Ramirez: Works eighth inning in win

Ramirez walked one and struck out one over a scoreless eighth inning in Monday's 5-1 win over the Brewers. Ramirez's contract was selected late last week, and the reliever has authored three consecutive scoreless outings for the Diamondbacks. Used mostly as a mop-up reliever during his career, Ramirez has worked high-leverage spots for manager Torey Lovullo, who has a history with the right-hander dating back to their time together with the Red Sox in 2015. In addition to throwing Monday's eighth inning, Ramirez pitched the seventh inning of a scoreless game last Friday and the ninth inning of a one-run game the following day.

  • Diamondbacks' Noe Ramirez: Contract selected by Arizona

Ramirez's contract was selected by the Diamondbacks on Friday. Ramirez signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks in late May, and he posted an 8.00 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in nine innings across eight relief appearances for Triple-A Reno. The right-hander should serve mainly as a low-leverage reliever in the majors after right-hander Keury Mella was designated for assignment Friday.

  • Diamondbacks' Noe Ramirez: Joining Arizona on MiLB deal

Ramirez agreed Thursday with the Diamondbacks on a minor-league contract, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports. The Arizona bullpen is lacking in both experienced and quality options at the big-league level, so Ramirez may not have to wait long for a call-up if he impresses early on at Triple-A Reno. The 31-year-old right-hander, who elected free agency earlier this week after the Angels designated him for assignment, owns a 4.20 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 186 career relief appearances in the majors.

  • Noe Ramirez: Elects free agency

Ramirez cleared waivers and elected free agency Tuesday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports. The 31-year-old was designated for assignment over the weekend and will hit free agency rather than report to the minors. Ramirez made two appearances for the Angels, allowing two earned runs on five hits with one walk and zero strikeouts over 3.1 innings.

  • Angels' Noe Ramirez: Contract selected

Ramirez's contract was selected by the Angels on Tuesday. Ramirez was sent to the Reds in the Raisel Iglesias trade over the winter but was later released and returned to the Angels on a minor-league deal. The 31-year-old could be a useful member of the team's bullpen, as he owns a 3.76 ERA and 1.16 WHIP over the last two seasons.
