  • Chasen Shreve: Becomes free agent

Shreve elected free agency Wednesday. Shreve cleared waivers after being removed from the Rockies' 40-man roster, but he'll look for another gig elsewhere rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Albuquerque. The lefty reliever made just one appearance for Colorado, tossing a scoreless frame.

  • Rockies' Chasen Shreve: Dropped from 40-man roster

The Rockies designated Shreve for assignment Saturday. In the span of just five days, Shreve has signed a minor-league deal with the Rockies, been selected to the MLB roster, and lost his spot on the 40-man after making one appearance with Colorado. The 34-year-old owns a 2.65 ERA and 0.85 WHIP through 34 Triple-A innings, which could potentially help him draw interest on the waiver wire from bullpen-needy teams.

  • Rockies' Chasen Shreve: Contract selected

The Rockies selected Shreve's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday. Shreve was just inked to a minor-league deal Sunday and is now in the majors two days later. The veteran left-hander has been at the Triple-A level all season, posting a 2.62 ERA and 35:12 K:BB over 34.1 innings across three different organizations.

  • Rockies' Chasen Shreve: Joins Colorado on MiLB deal

Shreve signed a minor-league contract with the Rockies on Sunday and gave up three earned runs on three hits over an inning out of the bullpen for Triple-A Albuquerque in the affiliate's 21-5 loss to Las Vegas. Shreve is now with his third organization of the season after he previously signed minor-league deals with the Rangers and Yankees before opting out of those contracts. He posted a 1.64 ERA and 0.77 WHIP across 22 innings at Triple-A Round Rock and a 2.45 ERA and 0.82 WHIP in 11 innings at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre before enduring his worst outing of the season in his debut for the Rockies' Triple-A affiliate. All three of the runs he allowed came on solo home runs.

  • Chasen Shreve: Released by Yankees

Shreve was released from his minor-league contract by the Yankees on Thursday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. Shreve joined the club June 24 and pitched exclusively with its Triple-A affiliate. While with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, he maintained a solid 2.45 ERA and 0.82 WHIP, so perhaps he can latch on elsewhere for the final two months of the season.

  • Yankees' Chasen Shreve: Joining Bronx Bombers on MiLB deal

Shreve signed a minor-league contract with the Yankees on Monday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. Shreve joined the Rangers on a minor-league deal in May but was released June 15 after accruing a 1.61 ERA and 0.76 WHIP with 24 strikeouts over 22.1 frames for Triple-A Round Rock. He'll report to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following his most recent signing.

  • Chasen Shreve: Cut loose by Texas

The Rangers released Shreve on Wednesday. After failing to win a spot on the Rangers' Opening Day roster, Shreve posted a 2.70 ERA and 0.80 WHIP over 10 innings out of Triple-A Round Rock's bullpen before being cut loose. The journeyman reliever shouldn't have much trouble securing a minor-league deal elsewhere, with Shreve presumably keen on joining an organization that can present him with a clearer path to the big-league bullpen.

  • Rangers' Chasen Shreve: Will not make Opening Day roster

The Rangers informed Shreve on Friday that he will not make Texas' roster out of spring training, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports. Shreve will likely exercise the opt-out clause in his contract and look to latch on with another organization in free agency. The 33-year-old southpaw turned in a 4.63 ERA and 1.34 WHIP across 44.2 innings between the Reds and Tigers last season.

  • Chasen Shreve: Cut loose by Cincy

The Reds released Shreve on Saturday. With just one week left in the minor-league season, Shreve is unlikely to resurface elsewhere in 2023, though he'll at least get a head start in finding his next organization after Cincinnati cut him loose. Between big-league stops with the Reds and Tigers this season, Shreve compiled a 4.63 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 45:14 K:BB across 44.2 innings.

  • Reds' Chasen Shreve: Selected to majors

The Reds selected Shreve from Triple-A Louisville on Saturday. With Graham Ashcraft (toe) headed for the injured list, Shreve will come up from the minors to add depth to a depleted Cincinnati pitching staff. The 33-year-old southpaw put up a 4.79 ERA and 1.38 WHIP through 41.1 innings with Detroit before signing a minor-league deal with the Reds on Aug. 18.

  • Reds' Chasen Shreve: Lands with Reds on minors deal

Shreve signed a minor-league contract with the Reds on Thursday. Shreve was cut loose by the Tigers last week after posting a 4.79 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 42:12 K:BB through 41.1 innings. He'll report to Triple-A Louisville for now but could get a look with the Reds down the stretch.

  • Chasen Shreve: Becomes free agent

Shreve was released by the Tigers on Friday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Shreve passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment by Detroit and will now head to free agency. The 33-year-old lefty reliever should be able to find a new opportunity elsewhere before the 2023 season comes to an end.

  • Tigers' Chasen Shreve: Implodes in loss Thursday

Shreve (1-2) allowed five runs while retiring only two batters to take the loss Thursday against the Orioles. He gave up four hits and a walk. Shreve came out for the top of the seventh inning and promptly allowed a single and a double to start the frame. Things didn't get much better from there, and the lefty saw his ERA climb from 3.00 to 7.45 in the process. Shreve wasn't much better for the Mets last year, posting a 6.49 ERA across 25 games, so expectations should be kept fairly low moving forward despite the fact he's seen high-leverage chances early this year for the Tigers.

  • Tigers' Chasen Shreve: Blows save, takes loss

Shreve (0-1) allowed an unearned run across 1.1 innings of work to take the loss in Wednesday's 10-inning contest against the Blue Jays. Shreve suffered a tough-luck blown save and loss, as he allowed two inherited runners to score in the ninth inning on sacrifice flies. The lefty then allowed the automatic runner on second base to score in the 10th, giving Toronto the walkoff win. Despite the negative outcome, it's encouraging to see Shreve receive high-leverage work with the Tigers.

  • Tigers' Chasen Shreve: Contract selected by Detroit

Shreve had his contract selected by the Tigers on Thursday. Shreve was informed Wednesday that he earned a spot on Detroit's Opening Day roster, and now he's officially been added to the big club. The 32-year-old struggled to a 6.49 ERA in in 25 outings for the Mets last season, but he pitched well during spring training with two earned runs allowed and a 10:3 K:BB across eight frames.

  • Tigers' Chasen Shreve: Makes Opening Day roster

Shreve was informed Wednesday that he'll be included on Detroit's Opening Day roster, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. The Tigers still have to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for him, but Shreve earns a spot with the big club after forging a 2.25 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 10:3 K:BB over eight innings in eight appearances in the Grapefruit League. The southpaw will likely start the campaign in a middle-innings role, but given Detroit's lack of established options in the bullpen, he could quickly move into higher-leverage opportunities.

  • Tigers' Chasen Shreve: Looks set to make team

Shreve has a clearer path to an Opening Day bullpen spot with the Tigers reassigning Jace Fry, Trevor Rosenthal and Matt Wisler to minor-league camp Monday Shreve has pitched well this spring with a 2.25 ERA and 10 strikeouts across eight Grapefruit League innings. It looks like that will help the lefty make the team with the Tigers thinning out their options Monday. Shreve figures to mostly be used situationally against left-handed hitters and likely won't have a ton of fantasy appeal, at least in the early going.

  • Mets' Chasen Shreve: Hit with loss Sunday

Shreve (1-1) took the loss Sunday against the Mariners, giving up two runs on two hits while striking out one in one inning of relief. He entered the game to get the final two outs in the fifth inning with the Mets protecting a 5-4 lead, but Julio Rodriguez led off the sixth with a solo shot, and Shreve allowed another single that also came around to score. The southpaw has served up homers in two straight appearances, but on the season he still sports a 3.38 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 19:3 K:BB through 13.1 innings with two holds.

  • Mets' Chasen Shreve: Makes Opening Day roster

Shreve told Tim Healey of Newsday on Monday that the Mets have informed him that he's made their Opening Day roster. The Mets will likely make the move official within the next couple of days when Shreve's contract is purchased from the minors. Shreve, who was attending camp as a non-roster invitee, earned his way on the roster after striking out six and permitting just one walk in four no-hit innings during Grapefruit League play. The 31-year-old lefty is back for his second stint with the Mets, after he split the 2018 campaign between New York and St. Louis. He was most recently part of the Pirates organization in 2021, logging 57 appearances for the big club and compiling a 3.20 ERA and 1.26 WHIP over 56.1 innings.
