Diamondbacks' Ian Clarkin: Gets MiLB deal from Arizona
Clarkin signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
Clarkin had been pitching as a reliever in the Mexican League, where he apparently caught the attention of the Diamondbacks organization. The 2013 first-round pick will report to Triple-A Reno.

Mariners' Ian Clarkin: Agrees to MiLB deal
Seattle signed Clarkin to a minor-league contract back on Jan. 30.
He was assigned to Double-A Arkansas after joining the organization. Clarkin was a first-round pick by the the Yankees in 2013, but he's struggled to stay healthy and didn't pitch at all last season after posting a 7.86 ERA in 2021 at the Double-A and Triple-A levels while he was a member of the Colorado organization. At this stage of his career, Clarkin is nothing more than roster fodder.

Ian Clarkin: Cut loose by San Diego
The Padres released Clarkin last week, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
One of a slew of minor-league players cut by San Diego, Clarkin was expected to open the 2020 campaign at Double-A Amarillo before the COVID-19 pandemic put the season on hiatus. The 25-year-old lefty has yet to advance past the Double-A level since being selected by the Yankees in the first round of the 2013 first-year player draft.

Padres' Ian Clarkin: Signs with Padres
Clarkin has inked a minor-league deal with the Padres, per Baseball America.
A first-round draft pick back in 2013, Clarkin stalled at the Double-A level in 2018, posting a 4.98 ERA across 68.2 innings. He registered a 3.38 ERA in 13.1 innings as a reliever at the same level last season, though his WHIP was an unsightly 1.58 and he struck out only five batters. There's little reason to expect Clarkin to make a major-league impact anytime in the near future.

Cubs' Ian Clarkin: Clears waivers
Clarking cleared waivers Friday and was outrighted to Triple-A Iowa, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Clarkin should finally be able to settle down on the north side of Chicago after bouncing between the White Sox and Cubs three times already this offseason. Coming off a year in which he posted a 4.98 ERA in 68.2 innings for Double-A Birmingham, it would be surprising to see him make a big-league impact this season.

Clarkin was claimed off waivers by the Cubs from the White Sox on Wednesday, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Clarkin was a roster casualty on the South Side when the Sox signed Kelvin Herrera. He's changed teams three times this offseason without ever leaving town, heading from the White Sox to the Cubs and back in November and going back north again now. The 23-year-old is coming off a season in which he posted an unimpressive 4.98 ERA at the Double-A level, so it's no surprise that his roster spot isn't secure.

Clarkin was the roster casualty needed to free up a 40-man spot for Kelvin Herrera (foot), who was signed to a two-year deal Tuesday. This marks the second time in less than a week that Clarkin has moved from one Chicago team to the other; the Cubs claimed him from the White Sox last week before unsuccessfully attempting to pass him through waivers. White Sox's Ian Clarkin: Activated, optioned to High-A
Clarkin (groin) was activated Monday from the 7-day disabled list at Double-A Birmingham and optioned to High-A Winston-Salem.
Clarkin was sidelined for a month with the groin strain and completed three rehab starts in the Arizona League before being reinstated. Before getting injured, Clarkin had looked overmatched at the Double-A level with a 6.29 ERA and 1.68 WHIP over 48.2 innings, so he'll move down a rung to face more appropriate competition.

Clarkin was added to the White Sox's 40-man roster on Monday to protect him from the Rule 5 draft.
Clarkin, a first-round pick by the Yankees in 2013, was traded to the White Sox earlier this season. His stuff has backed up since he was drafted, and he now profiles as either an up-and-down starter or middle reliever. While he has excelled at preventing runs at High-A over the past couple seasons, his strikeout rate has been well below average. Now that he is on the 40-man roster, the White Sox may fast-track him to the big leagues to see what they have.

Clarkin was placed on the minor-league disabled list with a strained right oblique Monday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Clarkin made just one appearance for High-A Winston-Salem before injuring himself; he allowed two runs over five innings while walking five batters and striking out four. He'll be reevaluated in 10 days, at which point his potential return date should become clearer.

Clarkin was traded to the White Sox on Tuesday in a multi-player deal.
Clarkin will join fellow minor leaguers Blake Rutherford and Tito Polo on their way to join the White Sox's stacked farm system. Clarkin, who was selected with the 33rd pick of the 2013 draft, was forced to miss the 2015 season with elbow issues but has put together two solid campaigns in the previous two years. The 22-year-old held an impressive 2.61 ERA over 72.1 innings with High-A Tampa this season and will look to build upon that success with his new organization.

Clarkin missed the 2015 season due to elbow inflammation, but did return to pitch in the Arizona Fall League. He could be promoted to Double-A soon if he continues at this pace, but the Yankees may want to see him stay healthy for a year at the same level.

The former first round pick had a strong 2014 campaign, but was sidelined for all of 2015 with elbow inflammation. The addition to the AFL roster comes as a bit of a surprise, but is an encouraging development that the 20-year-old will be fully healthy in time for the 2016 season.
