Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Scratched from rehab game
McMahon (illness) is dealing with food poisoning and will no longer play a rehab game Wednesday with Double-A Somerset, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
The goal is for McMahon to play in Thursday's game instead, and if he feels well, he will still return from the 10-day injured list Friday. McMahon landed on the IL last week with a throat and ear infection.

Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Will return from IL on Friday
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday on the "Talkin' Yanks" podcast by Jomboy Media that McMahon (illness) will play a rehab game with Double-A Somerset on Wednesday before being activated from the 10-day injured list Friday.
McMahon is coming back from a throat and ear infection but will be back when his 10 days are up. The Yankees have used a combination of Jose Caballero and Amed Rosario at third base since McMahon went down, but McMahon should net most of the starts at the hot corner versus righties upon his activation.

Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Hits IL due to infection
The Yankees placed McMahon on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to a throat infection.
Per Jack Curry of YES Network, McMahon is also recovering from an ear infection. McMahon hadn't played since Sunday, and with the Yankees' upcoming schedule being heavy against left-handed pitching, the decision was made to put the lefty-swinging third baseman on the shelf. He's expected to return from the IL when first eligible July 3. Jose Caballero, Amed Rosario and Oswaldo Cabrera could share the third-base job while McMahon is out.

Manager Aaron Boone said that McMahon isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against Detroit due to an ear/throat infection, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.
Although McMahon will be in the dugout for the beginning of Tuesday's contest, Boone noted that there's a chance the 31-year-old could be available off the bench. Jose Caballero will get the nod at the hot corner and bat seventh while McMahon sits.

McMahon continues to heat up -- he's gone 7-for-25 (.280) with three homers and six RBI over his last seven games. The third baseman is now hitting .200 with a .613 OPS, 19 RBI, 15 runs scored, four doubles and three stolen bases over 158 plate appearances this season. As long as he's hitting well, he should maintain a strong-side platoon role at the hot corner.

McMahon went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 7-0 win over the Royals.
McMahon had been on the bench for the previous two games, presumably for matchup-related reasons. He's not struggling right now -- the third baseman has gone 6-for-21 (.286) with two homers, five RBI and a stolen base over his last six contests. On the season, he's hitting just .199 with a .594 OPS, five homers, 18 RBI, 14 runs scored, three steals and four doubles across 51 contests. McMahon has primarily worked as a strong-side platoon option this season. If his overall numbers don't improve, he could cede some time to Amed Rosario, who has an .835 OPS over 45 plate appearances versus right-handed pitchers despite being McMahon's main platoon partner at the hot corner.
