  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Homers again Friday

McMahon went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 8-2 win over the Athletics. McMahon continues to heat up -- he's gone 7-for-25 (.280) with three homers and six RBI over his last seven games. The third baseman is now hitting .200 with a .613 OPS, 19 RBI, 15 runs scored, four doubles and three stolen bases over 158 plate appearances this season. As long as he's hitting well, he should maintain a strong-side platoon role at the hot corner.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Launches homer Wednesday

McMahon went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 7-0 win over the Royals. McMahon had been on the bench for the previous two games, presumably for matchup-related reasons. He's not struggling right now -- the third baseman has gone 6-for-21 (.286) with two homers, five RBI and a stolen base over his last six contests. On the season, he's hitting just .199 with a .594 OPS, five homers, 18 RBI, 14 runs scored, three steals and four doubles across 51 contests. McMahon has primarily worked as a strong-side platoon option this season. If his overall numbers don't improve, he could cede some time to Amed Rosario, who has an .835 OPS over 45 plate appearances versus right-handed pitchers despite being McMahon's main platoon partner at the hot corner.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Opening Tuesday's game on bench

McMahon is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Royals. Left-hander Bailey Falter is opening the game on the mound for the Royals, so the left-handed-hitting McMahon will begin the contest on the bench. He could end up subbing in for Amed Rosario -- who will start at third base -- at some point during Tuesday's game once Falter exits.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Absent from lineup versus righty

McMahon is not in the lineup for Monday's tilt in Kansas City. It's a rare instance of the left-handed-hitting McMahon not starting against a right-hander, but it makes sense because righty Michael Wacha has reverse splits. Jose Caballero will slide over to third base and Anthony Volpe will start at second base for the Yankees.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Breaks out of drought Tuesday

McMahon went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and a steal during the Yankees' 5-4 win over the Blue Jays on Tuesday. Dylan Cease dominated the Yankees' bats through the first three innings of Tuesday's game, but McMahon came up big for his team with a three-run homer to left field that tied things up at 3-3. It was a much-needed performance out of the veteran third baseman, who entered the game with a .541 OPS (in 133 plate appearances) and having gone 0-for-23 across his seven prior outings.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Hitting bench against southpaw

McMahon is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Blue Jays. Lefty Patrick Corbin is starting the game for Toronto, so the left-handed-hitting McMahon will bow out of the lineup as Amed Rosario receives the nod at third base. McMahon has gone 0-for-23 over his last six starts, bringing his batting average down to .183 on the season.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Getting rest Saturday

McMahon isn't in the starting lineup Saturday versus the Mets. McMahon has gone 0-for-19 with no walks and eight strikeouts over his past five games to bring his season OPS down to a paltry .559. The Yankees are giving him a day off Saturday in hopes that will spark a reset. Amed Rosario is getting a start at the hot corner in McMahon's stead.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Sitting in series finale

McMahon is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rangers. With left-hander MacKenzie Gore on the hill for Texas in a day game after a night game, the left-handed-hitting McMahon will receive a breather. Amed Rosario will cover third base and bat cleanup while McMahon sits.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Blasts third homer Tuesday

McMahon went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 7-4 win over the Rangers. McMahon provided an early spark, launching a two-run homer off Jacob deGrom in the second inning -- his third of the year. The veteran infielder has quietly started to turn things around at the plate after a slow start to the season, entering Tuesday batting .286 with a 120 wRC+ over his previous 16 games. McMahon is now slashing .216/.296/.341 with two doubles, 11 RBI and 10 runs scored across 98 plate appearances.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Out against lefty again

McMahon is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox. McMahon is on the bench for the fifth time in six games while the Yankees navigate a stretch that's been heavy on matchups with left-handed starting pitchers. Amed Rosario will get the nod at third base in McMahon's stead Wednesday while southpaw Ranger Suarez takes the hill for Boston.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Sitting against righty

McMahon is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Royals. Even with right-hander Michael Wacha on the mound for the Royals, McMahon will sit in favor of Amed Rosario at third base. McMahon is batting .111 with a sky-high 32.6 percent strikeout rate in 43 trips to the plate against right-handed pitching this season. McMahon is also hitting 59.1 percent of his batted balls on the ground versus righties.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Taking seat against southpaw

McMahon is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Angels. He'll head to the bench along with fellow left-handed hitters Ben Rice and Trent Grisham while the Yankees stock up some extra right-handed bats to counter Angels southpaw Yusei Kikuchi. Amed Rosario will step in at third base in place of McMahon, who owns a .376 OPS over 42 plate appearances on the season.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Out of lineup versus righty

McMahon is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners. The Yankees are facing a righty in George Kirby, but the left-handed-hitting McMahon will nonetheless begin the game on the bench. Amed Rosario is at third base and batting seventh in Wednesday's series finale.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Reserve option at shortstop

Manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that he would be comfortable playing McMahon at shortstop in a regular-season game, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports. The Yankees have been giving McMahon some reps at shortstop during spring training and have apparently liked the results. The 31-year-old will open the season as New York's primary third baseman and isn't likely to see enough reps at shortstop to gain positional eligibility. McMahon shifted to a narrower stance during the offseason to help keep his hands a bit higher after posting a .214/.312/.381 slash line across 154 regular-season games last year.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Reworks batting stance

McMahon is using a "narrower stance" while batting this spring, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. McMahon reportedly worked with the Yankees' coaching staff to adjust his approach at the plate. The veteran third baseman expressed optimism about the reworked stance, saying, "A lot of good things happen from being a little bit closer together." McMahon added, "My hands don't drop as much, which is a super helpful thing. They travel a little bit higher, and that's something that I do when I'm swinging it well." Per Hoch, McMahon had the fourth-widest stance in MLB last season, and that didn't translate into good results -- over 54 regular-season games with the Yankees, he slashed just .208/.308/.333 with four homers, 18 RBI and 62 strikeouts across 185 plate appearances.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Will get shortstop reps this spring

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that McMahon will be given some reps at shortstop during spring training in order to find out whether he can be a backup option at the position, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports. McMahon played three innings at shortstop for the Rockies during the 2020 season, but that's the extent of his experience at the position. In all likelihood, the Yankees would use McMahon at shortstop only in an emergency situation. The 31-year-old is slated to be the team's primary third baseman against right-handed pitching.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Sitting out against southpaw

McMahon is not in the lineup Tuesday for Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series against the Red Sox. With tough southpaw Garrett Crochet on the hill for the Red Sox, the lefty-swinging McMahon will grab a seat. Jose Caballero will play third base and bat ninth for the Yankees.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Slugs homer No. 20

McMahon went 2-for-3 wit ha solo home run and a second run scored in Saturday's 6-1 win over the Orioles. The third baseman took Tomoyuki Sugano deep in the second inning, one of three early homers by the Yankees as they take the battle for the AL East title with the Blue Jays right down to the wire. McMahon's long ball was just his fourth in 53 games in pinstripes but his 20th of the season, the fifth straight season he's reached that milestone and the sixth time overall in his career.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Taking seat against southpaw

McMahon is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox. With ace southpaw Garrett Crochet on the bump for Boston, McMahon will head to the bench along with fellow left-handed hitters Trent Grisham and Austin Wells. McMahon's absence will open up third base for Amed Rosario, who will bat fifth.

  • Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Productive in Thursday's win

McMahon went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, two additional RBI and two total runs scored in Thursday's 8-4 win over the Astros. McMahon logged his second straight multi-hit effort. He had RBI singles in the second and eighth innings, sandwiched around a solo shot in the fifth. He's still batting just .243 since he was traded to the Yankees, logging 10 extra-base hits and 15 RBI over 35 games with the team. Overall, the third baseman has a .223/.321/.400 slash line with 19 homers, 50 RBI, 57 runs scored and two stolen bases across 135 games between the Yankees and the Rockies.
