Padres' Dillon Overton: Designated for assignment
Overton was designated for assignment on Tuesday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
The Padres needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Miguel Diaz, who was activated from the 60-day DL as a corresponding move. Overton, 26, is on his third team in two years, and while he used to be a notable prospect, his poor pitching of late may allow him to go unclaimed in the waiver process. He has a 6.65 ERA and just 11 strikeouts in 23 big-league innings split between the Mariners and Padres this season.

Padres' Dillon Overton: Takes loss in spot start Saturday
Overton (0-1) was hit hard over 4.2 innings against the Dodgers on Saturday, allowing four earned runs on nine hits while notching three strikeouts.
Overton, making his first appearance with the Padres since being claimed off waivers from Seattle, had already allowed two runs on six hits before the wheels fell off in the fifth inning. Corey Seager and Justin Turner connected on back-to-back home runs before Logan Forsythe recorded his second hit of the night with a double off the center field wall. Overton was dismissed after 92 pitches and performed admirably, considering it was his first big-league appearance since May 20 and that it came against a team averaging over five runs per game (second best in the National League). It likely won't be enough to keep him in the starting rotation, as Trevor Cahill (shoulder) is slated to return Tuesday.

Padres' Dillon Overton: Recalled ahead of Saturday's start
Overton was recalled from Triple-A El Paso and will start Saturday's game against the Dodgers.
As expected, Overton, who owns a 6.38 ERA and 8:2 K:BB through 18.1 innings this season (nine appearances, one start), was added to the roster ahead of his scheduled spot start. It's not an ideal matchup for Overton, as the Dodgers have a high-scoring offense. He'll likely head back to El Paso afterwards as Trevor Cahill (shoulder) is hoping to rejoin the rotation before the All-Star break.

Padres' Dillon Overton: Will start Saturday
Overton will start Saturday's game against the Dodgers, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Overton arrived in the clubhouse for Friday's game prior to his first big-league start since May 20, during which he got roughed up by the Diamondbacks, and he has accumulated a 6.38 ERA with just eight strikeouts in 18.1 innings of work for the Mariners this season. Saturday will mark his first game in a Padres uniform, but the 25-year-old will likely head back down to Triple-A El Paso afterwards, with Trevor Cahill (shoulder) returning from the disabled list in a week.

Padres' Dillon Overton: Nabbed by San Diego
Overton was claimed off waivers by the Padres on Monday.
Overton spent much of the 2017 season shuttling between Triple-A and the majors, but the Mariners ultimately designated him for assignment after he found little success at either level. The Padres will take a chance on the right-hander, who managed to produce a solid 3.29 ERA in 125.2 innings as a starter at the Triple-A level last season. He'll likely continue to develop as a starter in the minors, although it wouldn't be too surprising to see him work his way to the big leagues once again, given the plethora of injuries plaguing San Diego at the moment.

Mariners' Dillon Overton: Designated for assignment
The Mariners designated Overton for assignment Sunday, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.
After failing to impress in long relief during his nine appearances with the Mariners earlier this season, Overton was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma in late May. He wasn't able to find much success in the minors either, delivering a 9.86 ERA over his last five starts with Tacoma before the Mariners decided to drop him from the 40-man roster. if Overton isn't traded or goes unclaimed off waivers in the coming days, he'll likely stick around with Tacoma and provide some pitching depth.

Mariners' Dillon Overton: Pitches well in first start of season
Overton allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits while walking one and striking out two over 3.1 innings for a no-decision against the Rangers on Sunday.
With Seattle's rotation banged up right now, Overton received the call against Texas and delivered, although he didn't last very long. It was his first start after tossing 7.1 innings in relief this season, and he's unlikely to make more than just a handful of starts as a temporary rotation replacement. Overton's career numbers before this start (5.8 K/9 and 10.23 ERA in 31.2 innings) don't hint at much future success.

Mariners' Dillon Overton: Likely starter Sunday
Overton will start Sunday's game against the Rangers if he is not used out of the bullpen Saturday, the Tacoma News Tribune's Bob Dutton reports.
Christian Bergman would be the other option if Overton is used Saturday. Overton logged five innings out of the bullpen on April 30, so he should be able to log four or five innings if he gets the ball Sunday, but his results in the majors leave a lot to be desired (10.23 ERA in 31.2 innings).

Mariners' Dillon Overton: Option to start Sunday
Overton is an option to start Sunday against the Rangers after James Paxton was placed on the 10-day DL with a forearm strain,Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
Paxton is expected to miss a couple of starts, and Overton is one of two options to replace him in the rotation -- Christian Bergman being the other. Bergman is expected to be called up from Triple-A Tacoma by Sunday either way, so the two will likely piggyback that start. Overton has a 6.14 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and four strikeouts in 7.1 innings of relief this season. He logged five innings in a relief appearance April 30, but the rest of his appearances have been for one inning or less.

Overton is an option to start against the Rangers on Sunday, Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
With James Paxton (forearm) set to miss his next start, Overton is one of two possible candidates (Christian Bergman being the other) to fill his spot in the rotation. Overton has only worked out of the bullpen this season, though he did see time as a starter with the A's last season. The 25-year-old currently holds a 6.14 ERA across four games (7.1 innings) with the Mariners so far.

Mariners' Dillon Overton: Comes back to Seattle
Overton was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.
The Mariners needed more bullpen arms after sending Chris Heston and Evan Marshall to the minors, so Overton will re-emerge in the big leagues. His first stint in the majors this season was disastrous, so he'll look to be more effective this time around in a middle-relief role.

Overton was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Friday.
The lefty pitching prospect was shelled for three runs in most recent appearance out of the big-league bullpen, so the Mariners will send him back to the minors for more seasoning. Tony Zych will take Overton's spot in the bullpen for the time being, although Overton's prospect pedigree and ability to act as a starter could have him back in Seattle in no time.
