Judge (calf) is not on the Yankees' wild-card series roster against the Red Sox, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.
Judge was diagnosed with a moderate right calf strain a little less than two weeks ago. He's made progress, having taken live batting practice Monday, but Judge has yet to try running the bases or playing the outfield since the injury. Judge will push to be ready for the ALDS, should the Yankees advance. With Judge shelved, New York will likely use Spencer Jones in right field and Trent Grisham in center field versus righties.
Judge (calf) logged four at-bats during a live batting practice session Monday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
Phillips notes that Judge struck out once, drew a pair of walks and hit a comebacker to the pitcher during his time at the dish. While it's a positive sign that he was able to log several at-bats against live pitching, he didn't participate in any on-field running or fielding. The slugger's availability is still up in the air heading into Game 1 of the Yankees' wild-card series against the Red Sox. Judge hasn't appeared in a game since suffering a right calf strain Sept. 16 against Minnesota.

The one detail that was disclosed is that Judge is dealing with a strain of the soleus muscle, which is crucial to running and hitting, making it more difficult to play through than some other types of calf injuries. Judge added that he'd like to be back by the postseason. "That's definitely the plan," Judge said.
