  • Ty Blach: Reaches free agency

Blach elected to become a free agent Monday. Blach had been removed from the Cubs' 40-man roster and will test out free agency rather than accept an outright assignment. The lefty could wind up re-signing on a minor-league deal, but he will have the ability to negotiate with all teams.

  • Cubs' Ty Blach: DFA'd by Cubs

The Cubs designated Blach for assignment Tuesday. Blach spun three scoreless innings out of the Cubs' bullpen Monday against the Brewers in his lone appearance for the club, and his reward is being jettisoned from the 26-man and 40-man rosters. The lefty will likely clear waivers, and if that happens, he would have the ability to decline an outright assignment and become a free agent.

  • Cubs' Ty Blach: Effective in team debut

Blach tossed three scoreless innings of relief in Monday's 9-3 loss to the Brewers. He allowed one hit and struck out two. Blach had his contract selected from Triple-A Iowa on Sunday, and he made his team debut a day later. The lefty, who last appeared in the majors for Colorado back in 2024, looked good, albeit in a low-leverage spot with the Cubs already down six runs when he entered the contest. Blach replaced Javier Assad on the roster for now, though the latter could be back in short order after a stint in Iowa.

  • Cubs' Ty Blach: Added to big-league bullpen

The Cubs selected Blach's contract from Triple-A Iowa on Sunday. Blach joined the organization on a minor-league deal in mid-April and has gotten into five games (three starts) for Iowa, posting a 5.23 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 14:7 K:BB over 20.2 innings. He'll likely work in long relief out of the bullpen with the big-league club. Reliever Hunter Harvey (triceps) was moved to the 60-day IL to make room for Blach, while Javier Assad was optioned to Triple-A.

  • Cubs' Ty Blach: Lands MiLB deal with Cubs

Blach agreed to a minor-league deal with the Cubs on Tuesday, Tommy Birch of The Des Moines Register reports. Blach had been a free agent since the end of last season and didn't take part in spring training, but he'll immediately head to Triple-A Iowa and will either serve as a starter or long reliever. The soft-tossing lefty has seen big-league action in parts of seven seasons across stops with the Giants, Orioles and Rockies, but he spent the entire 2025 campaign in the minors as a member of the Rangers organization. Over his 11 starts for Triple-A Round Rock, Blach compiled a 3.88 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 40:13 K:BB in 51 innings.

  • Rangers' Ty Blach: Gets MiLB pact from Rangers

The Rangers signed Blach to a minor-league contract Friday. Blach has been assigned to the Rangers' Arizona Complex League affiliate for now but should eventually moved up to Triple-A Round Rock. The left-hander made 12 starts and eight relief appearances for the Rockies last season, posting a 6.94 ERA and 36:18 K:BB over 71.1 frames.

  • Rockies' Ty Blach: Sticks in organization

Blach cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday. The left-hander was designated for assignment by Colorado over the weekend but will stick in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. Blach has made 20 appearances (12 starts) for the Rockies this season and has a 6.94 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 36:18 K:BB in 71.1 innings.

  • Rockies' Ty Blach: DFA'd by Colorado

The Rockies designated Blach for assignment Sunday. Blach was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque on Sept. 1 after Cal Quantrill (tricep) was placed on the 15-day injured list. Blach took the loss in both of his starts since his call-up, allowing 11 runs (10 earned) on 11 hits and two walks while striking out two over 7.2 innings. Blach was serving as a placeholder in the Rockies' rotation, and with Antonio Senzatela (elbow) nearing his return from the 60-day IL, there doesn't appear to be any room on the 40-man roster for the former. Right-hander Victor Vodnik (biceps) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Rockies' Ty Blach: Tagged with eighth loss

Blach (3-8) allowed five runs on six hits over 3.2 innings Saturday, he struck out one and took the loss against Milwaukee. Blach fell victim to the long ball, tying a career high with three home runs allowed. He allowed back-to-back homers to Willy Adames and Gary Sanchez in the first inning, and then a two-run blast to William Contreras in the third. Blach was given a second straight start after being called up on Sept. 1, but he's been lit up for five runs in each of those appearances. The 33-year-old has a 6.94 ERA through 71.1 innings this season.

  • Rockies' Ty Blach: Drawing second straight start

Blach is scheduled to start Saturday's game against the Brewers in Milwaukee. The veteran southpaw will pick up a second straight turn through the rotation after he yielded five earned runs on five hits and two walks over four innings last Sunday versus the Orioles in his return from Triple-A Albuquerque. Blach is likely just a placeholder in the rotation until the Rockies get Antonio Senzatela (elbow) back from the 60-day injured list, perhaps as soon as next week.

  • Rockies' Ty Blach: Coughs up five runs

Blach (3-7) yielded five runs on five hits and two walks over four innings Sunday, striking out one and taking a loss against Baltimore. Blach was promoted from Triple-A Albuquerque for his first MLB appearance since July 26. He gave up one run through three innings before Baltimore's four-run fourth frame, capped off by James McCann's two-run blast. Blach now owns a 6.65 ERA with a 35:18 K:BB through 67.2 innings with Colorado this season. He's currently scheduled to start in Milwaukee next weekend, but it's unclear if he'll get another turn in the rotation.

  • Rockies' Ty Blach: Starting Sunday vs. Baltimore

Blach will be recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque and draw the start in Sunday's series finale against the Orioles, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports. Blach will take the spot of Cal Quantrill, who was scratched from his scheduled start due to right triceps inflammation. Blach was DFA'd by Colorado in late July after posting a 6.36 ERA and 1.70 WHIP across 63.2 innings, but he opted to stay within the organization at the Triple-A level rather than enter free agency. He'll now rejoin the big club and could stick around in the rotation if Quantrill misses extended time.

  • Rockies' Ty Blach: Hit hard in loss

Blach (3-6) allowed six runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out one over 2.1 innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Red Sox. Blach actually ended up pitching the least of the three Rockies who took the hill Tuesday, as his return to the rotation was greeted by Boston's bats. Tyler O'Neill did most of the damage with two home runs. Blach threw 59 pitches (38 strikes) in this outing and may continue to stretch out if he remains in the rotation going forward. He has a 6.13 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 33:14 K:BB through 61.2 innings over 17 appearances (10 starts) this year, finding minimal success irrespective of whether he's served as a starter or reliever.

  • Rockies' Ty Blach: Narrowly misses quality start

Blach (3-4) picked up the win over the Pirates on Saturday, allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out five over 5.2 innings. Blach was effective early, striking out the first two batters he faced in the contest and going 1-2-3 through the first two frames. He would go on to surrender a solo homer to Nick Gonzales in the fourth and a second run in the sixth, but the lefty was able to hang on to earn his fourth win of the season and his first in the month of June. Blach has gone at least five innings in five straight outings, issuing multiple walks only one time over that stretch. However, he's also given up at least seven hits in three consecutive starts.

  • Rockies' Ty Blach: Coughs up four runs

Blach (2-4) yielded four runs on eight hits and a walk over five innings Sunday, striking out three and taking a loss against the Cardinals. Blach never quite found a groove Sunday, allowing at least one run in the second, third and fourth frames. He's given up eight runs in 10 innings so far this month after ending May with two straight quality starts. The 33-year-old southpaw's ERA has climbed to 4.84 with a 22:8 K:BB through 44.2 innings this season. Blach's next start is projected to be at home against the PIrates.

  • Rockies' Ty Blach: Loses to Reds

Blach (2-3) allowed four runs on 10 hits and struck out two without walking a batter over five innings, taking the loss Tuesday versus the Reds. The Rockies had just six baserunners in the contest, giving Blach virtually no support. This game was a bit of a step back for the southpaw, who had posted quality starts in each of his previous two outings. Blach is now at a 4.54 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 19:7 K:BB through 39.2 innings over nine appearances (six starts) this season. He's projected to make his next start on the road at St. Louis.

  • Rockies' Ty Blach: Sharp in second win

Blach (2-2) earned the win over the Guardians on Wednesday, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over seven innings while striking out five. Th lefty got touched for two runs in the first inning, but was fortunate to receive plenty of run support early after the Rockies got to Logan Allen for seven runs over the first two frames. Blach would not allow another run after the first and produced three 1-2-3 innings en route to posting his second win of the season. He struck out a season-high five batters in the contest while also going seven innings for the first time in the campaign. He's now logged back-to-back quality starts and has won two of his last three decisions (spanning four outings).

  • Rockies' Ty Blach: Stays in rotation

Blach is scheduled to start Saturday's game against the Giants in San Francisco, He'll be awarded a second consecutive turn through the rotation after he limited the Rangers to one run on seven hits and no walks over five innings en route to grabbing his first win of the season in his previous start Sunday. With Kyle Freeland's (elbow) return from the 15-day injured list not considered imminent, Blach should have a fair amount of security in the rotation.

  • Rockies' Ty Blach: Draws starting nod Sunday

Blach is slated to start Sunday's game against the Rangers at Coors Field. Blach will pick up his second start of the season as he joins the rotation as a replacement for Peter Lambert, who was recently moved to the bullpen. The veteran southpaw had worked in relief in both of his past two appearances for Colorado, but because he handled four- and three-inning workloads in those outings, he should be reasonably stretched out as he re-enters the rotation.

  • Rockies' Ty Blach: Returns to bullpen

Blach tossed three innings out of the bullpen in Tuesday's 5-0 loss to the Giants, giving up one earned run on four hits and one walk while striking out two. Blach made a five-inning spot start for the Rockies in an April 24 loss to the Padres, but he's since moved into a long-relief role. After tossing four shutout innings behind starter Peter Lambert in a 5-4 loss to the Marlins on May 2, Blach was called upon to cover multiple frames once again Tuesday and pitched effectively.
