  • Luis Severino: Given qualifying offer

The Mets extended a one-year, $21.05 million qualifying offer to Severino on Monday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Severino held a 3.91 ERA and 161:60 K:BB over 182 innings across 31 regular-season starts for the Mets in 2024. If he rejects the qualifying offer and signs a multi-year deal elsewhere, the Mets will receive a draft pick as compensation.

  • Mets' Luis Severino: In line for Game 3 start

Severino will start Wednesday in Game 3 of the NLCS against the Dodgers, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Severino will not be with the Mets in Los Angeles for Game 2, as he's already headed back to New York in advance of his Game 3 start so that he can get plenty of rest. The right-hander has posted quality starts in each of his two postseason outings so far, allowing a combined seven runs (six earned) with a 10:2 K:BB over 12 innings. He'll be opposed by Walker Buehler in Game 3.

  • Mets' Luis Severino: Taking ball in Game 2

Severino will start Sunday in Game 2 of the NLDS against the Phillies, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. The Mets are going with Kodai Senga (calf/triceps) to start what's likely to be a bullpen game in Game 1 before turning to Severino on normal rest in Game 2. Severino tossed six innings and allowed four runs (three earned) in his wild-card series outing versus the Brewers. He'll be opposed by Cristopher Sanchez.

  • Mets' Luis Severino: Starting Game 1 vs. Milwaukee

Severino will start Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series against the Brewers on Tuesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Severino was held out of Monday's twin bill against Atlanta, so he'll be fresh for the beginning of the wild-card round. He accrued a 3.64 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 30 strikeouts in his last five appearances of the regular season, and the Mets would surely appreciate some length out of Severino on Tuesday after some of the club's high-leverage relief arms were forced into action Monday to secure a place in the postseason.

  • Mets' Luis Severino: Held back for wild-card series

Severino's next start will come during the wild-card series after the Mets called up Joey Lucchesi to start the second game of Monday's doubleheader in Atlanta, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. Severino would have started the second game had the Mets lost the first contest. However, since they won, they can afford to hold Severino back for the wild-card round, likely for a Game 1 start. Severino made 31 regular-season starts for the Mets, posting a 3.91 ERA and 161:60 K:BB over 182 innings.

  • Mets' Luis Severino: On tap for nightcap of twin bill

Severino will start the second game of Monday's doubleheader versus Atlanta, if necessary, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Severino will be set to pitch in the nightcap Monday if New York drops the opener. The Mets need to win one of the two contests in order to secure a spot in the Wild Card Round. Tylor Megill will start the matinee, and if New York wins, Severino will shift his focus to getting ready for the postseason.

  • Mets' Luis Severino: Tagged with seventh loss

Severino (11-7) took the loss Tuesday, giving up four runs on seven hits and a walk over four innings as the Mets fell 5-1 to Atlanta. He struck out five. The right-hander picked a bad time to have his worst start of September, and his shortest outing since July 31. Severino needed 89 pitches (61 strikes) to record 12 outs, and he saw his quality start streak end at four. He's been one the Mets' most reliable arms during their playoff push, posting a 3.17 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 52:14 K:BB over his last eight trips to the mound, and Severino could be pitching with a wild-card spot on the line in his final start of the regular season, which lines up to come Sunday in Milwaukee.

  • Mets' Luis Severino: Fans seven in 11th win

Severino (11-6) picked up the win over the Phillies on Thursday, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks over six innings while striking out seven. Severino got off to a hot start, striking out five of the first eight batters he faced in the contest before allowing two runs in the third inning and another in the fourth. The right-hander generated 13 whiffs in the contest en route to posting at least seven strikeouts for the fifth time in his last eight outings. It marked Severino's fourth consecutive quality start, while he's also secured wins in each of his last four decisions (spanning seven starts).

  • Mets' Luis Severino: Logs quality start in no-decision

Severino did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Phillies, allowing three runs on three hits and one walk with five strikeouts over six innings. Severino was mostly in control but surrendered two home runs to Bryce Harper before departing with a 4-3 lead. The 30-year-old generated 11 whiffs on 86 pitches and has tossed three consecutive quality starts to open September. On the season, he owns a 3.77 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 149:57 K:BB across 172 innings and lines up for a rematch with the Phillies next week.

  • Mets' Luis Severino: Excelling during stretch run

Severino did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing one run on five hits and two walks over 6.2 innings against the Reds. He struck out eight. Severino held the Reds off the board through six and nearly made it out of the seventh unscathed, but a two-out RBI single by Noelvi Marte knocked Severino out with the game tied at one. It was the fourth time in his last six starts that Severino has struck out at least eight and the fourth time in five starts he's allowed no more than one earned run, and he holds a 1.95 ERA over that stretch. He remains a key cog in the Mets' playoff push and will look to continue the momentum in his next start, tentatively slated to take place when the Mets travel to Philadelphia for a showdown against the Phillies.

  • Mets' Luis Severino: Fans nine in no-decision

Severino did not factor into the decision in a loss to Arizona on Wednesday, allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk over 4.2 innings. He struck out nine. Severino struck out four of the first seven batters he faced before allowing Arizona's first run of the contest on an RBI single from Luis Guillorme. The right-hander was then victimized by the long ball in both the third and fourth innings and would later be relieved by Huascar Brazoban with two outs in the fifth, marking Severino's shortest outing this month. The 30-year-old veteran has now surrendered at least four runs in four of his last six starts, coughing up multiple homers in three of those outings. He'll finish the month of August with a 4.08 ERA and a 35:8 K:BB in five starts, going 2-2 over that stretch.

  • Mets' Luis Severino: Wins second straight

Severino (9-6) picked up the win over the Padres on Thursday, allowing one run on five hits and four walks over five innings while striking out five. Severino did a good job of pitching his way out of trouble through the first four innings despite surrendering five singles and a walk over that stretch. The Padres would finally get to him in the fifth, however, when the right-hander allowed the first three batters to reach, eventually leading to San Diego's first run coming home on a double play. Severino has allowed one run or fewer in back-to-back starts after previously giving up at least four runs in three straight. However, he also matched his second-highest walk total of the campaign in Thursday's win, and he's issued multiple free passes in seven of his last nine outings.

  • Mets' Luis Severino: Fires second career shutout

Severino (8-6) picked up the win Saturday, scattering four hits and a walk over nine scoreless innings in a 4-0 victory over the Marlins. He struck out eight. Three of the four hits off Severino were doubles, but he bore down and stranded the runner each time. The right-hander needed a season-high 113 pitches (78 strikes) to record his second career shutout, with the other coming back in 2018. It was an impressive turnaround for Severino, who had gone 0-3 with an 8.00 ERA and 1.83 WHIP over his prior four starts. The 30-year-old is scheduled to make his next trip to the mound on the road next week in San Diego.

  • Mets' Luis Severino: Handed third straight loss

Severino (7-6) took the loss Sunday against the Mariners, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out eight over five innings. Severino had allowed just one run through four innings, which came on a solo home run by Jorge Polanco. He was one out away from getting through the fifth unscathed, but Randy Arozarena extended the inning with an RBI infield single before Cal Raleigh opened things up with a two-run homer. On a positive note, Severino racked up eight strikeouts, his most since he had 10 back on June 23 but he's now given up five homers and 14 runs over his last three starts (15 innings). The 30-year-old now owns a 4.17 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 109:46 K:BB in 133.2 innings. He'll look for some better results when he takes the mound in a weekend series against the Marlins his next time out.

  • Mets' Luis Severino: Takes loss in Colorado

Severino (7-5) allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits and struck out five without walking a batter over five innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Rockies. It was a marginally better outing than his last start, in which he allowed six runs over three innings to the Twins. Severino also avoided walking a batter for the first time since June 23, but that wasn't enough to spare him from taking consecutive losses for the first time this season. He's now at a 4.06 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 101:44 K:BB through 128.2 innings over 22 starts this year. He's seen his highest workload since 2018, so there is some risk that he'll wear down over the remainder of the campaign. Severino's next start is projected to be at Seattle.

  • Mets' Luis Severino: Hit hard by Minnesota

Severino (7-4) took the loss Wednesday, surrendering six runs on six hits and two walks over three innings as the Mets fell 8-3 to the Twins. He struck out two. Three of the hits off the right-hander went for extra bases, including a solo homer by Byron Buxton in the second inning and a two-run blast by Matt Wallner in the third. Severino had given up only four runs and zero homers in his last three starts combined, but he remains prone to poor outings -- he's been tagged for at least six runs in three of his last eight trips to the mound, stumbling to a 5.32 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 36:14 K:BB through 45.2 innings over that stretch. He could have a hard time righting the ship in his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in Coors Field.

  • Mets' Luis Severino: Solid in no-decision

Severino did not factor into the decision in an extra-inning win over Atlanta on Thursday, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out six. Severino allowed multiple baserunners in four of the six innings in which he appeared, and while he managed to limit the damage, the right-hander was unable to make it through six innings for the first time in nine starts. Severino has held opponents to two or fewer runs in each of his last three outings, though he's also walked multiple batters in four straight.

The right-hander tossed 53 of 91 pitches for strikes to kick off the combined shutout, giving Severino his ninth quality start of the season. The 30-year-old has been the Mets' most reliable starter this season, lasting at least six innings in eight straight trips to the mound since the beginning of June while posting a 3.66 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 34:13 K:BB in 51.2 innings over that stretch. Severino's next outing lines up to come at home next week against Atlanta.

  • Mets' Luis Severino: Allows seven runs in loss

Severino (5-3) took the loss against the Pirates on Friday, allowing seven runs on nine hits and two walks with three strikeouts over six innings. He was pulled after loading the bases to open the seventh, and all three of those runners scored on a grand slam after his departure. Severino yielded nine hard-hit balls Friday and has allowed six long balls and 17 earned runs over his past four outings. On the season, the 30-year-old owns a 3.83 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 77:34 K:BB over 103.1 innings. He lines up for a home matchup with the Nationals next week.

  • Mets' Luis Severino: Allows four runs in seven frames

Severino did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing four runs on eight hits and a walk over seven innings against the Astros. He struck out three. Severino was highly efficient if not incredibly effective, needing just 79 pitches to complete seven innings despite allowing four runs and nine baserunners while throwing a first-pitch strike to just 13 of 28 batters. He also struck out only three after fanning a season-high 10 batters in his previous outing. It's the fifth consecutive start in which he's gone at least six innings, though it's the second time within those starts that he allowed at least four earned runs. Severino's next opportunity to toe the rubber is slated to take place next weekend when the Mets travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Pirates.
