  • Red Sox's Danny Coulombe: Inks deal with Boston

The Red Sox signed Coulombe to a one-year contract Thursday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. It's a major-league deal for the 36-year-old Coulombe, who split the 2025 season between the Twins and Rangers. Across 55 total appearances, Coulombe posted a 2.30 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 43:18 K:BB across 43 innings. Not including closer Aroldis Chapman, Coulombe figures to operate as manager Alex Cora's top situational lefty reliever out of Boston's bullpen.

  • Rangers' Danny Coulombe: Reinstated from 15-day IL

The Rangers activated Coulombe (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Tuesday. Coulombe has been shelved since late August with left shoulder fatigue but has been cleared to return to action following a brief rehab assignment. He'll play a key left-handed relief role in the Rangers' bullpen.

  • Rangers' Danny Coulombe: Nearing activation

Coulombe (shoulder) may be activated from the 15-day injured list Tuesday, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News Coulombe has been sidelined since Aug. 26 while dealing with left shoulder fatigue, but he now appears to be on the cusp of a return to the major-league roster. The 35-year-old has made two appearances with Double-A Frisco while on a minor-league rehab assignment, tossing two scoreless innings. Coulombe owns a 2.52 ERA and 1.12 WHIP over 39.1 innings in 51 appearances between the Twins and Rangers this season, but he's struggled to a 7.56 ERA over 8.1 frames with Texas since joining the team at the trade deadline.

  • Rangers' Danny Coulombe: Rehab assignment coming

Coulombe (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment at Double-A Frisco on Friday, MLB.com reports. Coulombe last pitched Aug. 26 against the Angels, when he allowed a pair of home runs. He'll join Frisco for its final three games of the regular season. That gives the left-handed reliever ample opportunity to prepare for a potential activation Sept. 16, the earliest date on which he could return.

  • Rangers' Danny Coulombe: Placed on injured list

The Rangers placed Coulombe on the 15-day injured list Thursday with left shoulder fatigue, retroactive to Monday. Coulombe hasn't made an appearance out of the bullpen since giving up three earned runs in just one-third of an inning Aug. 26, and his shoulder injury provides some clarity to the situation. He'll remain on the sidelines until at least Sept. 16, and the Rangers will return Cole Winn (hand) from the IL to claim the open bullpen spot.

  • Twins' Danny Coulombe: Returns from IL

The Twins reinstated Coulombe (forearm) from the 15-day injured list Sunday. Minnesota cleared a spot for Coulombe on the 26-man roster by moving Zebby Matthews (shoulder) to the injured list. Though Jhoan Duran maintains a firm grip on the Twins' closing gig, Coulombe had been a sneaky source of fantasy value in his setup role prior to landing on the shelf May 18 due to an extensor strain in his left forearm. In addition to scooping up two saves, two holds and one win in 19 appearances, Coulombe has yet to allow a run this season with 19 strikeouts over 16.2 innings.

  • Twins' Danny Coulombe: Out with forearm strain

The Twins placed Coulombe on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to an extensor strain in his left forearm. It's unclear when Coulombe sustained the injury since he hasn't pitched since Wednesday. The left-hander hasn't given up a run through 19 appearances this season and owns a stellar 19:2 K:BB over 16.2 innings out of the Minnesota bullpen, but he'll now be unavailable for at least the next couple weeks.

  • Twins' Danny Coulombe: Registers rare save Friday

Coulombe picked up the save in Friday's 3-1 win over the Giants after throwing a clean ninth inning. He struck out two. With closer Jhoan Duran and setup man Griffin Jax both having worked both of the past two days, Coulombe was summoned to safeguard Friday's victory and he ended up extending his scoreless streak to 15.1 innings to open the campaign. The left-hander boasts a 17:1 K:BB with two holds and two saves this season, although he remains behind Duran, Jax and perhaps even Cole Sands in Minnesota's bullpen hierarchy when it comes to high-leverage work on most occasions.

  • Twins' Danny Coulombe: Logs first save of 2025

Coulombe earned the save in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the White Sox, striking out one batter without allowing a walk or hit in a scoreless ninth inning. Usual closer Jhoan Duran needed 32 pitches to collect the save Tuesday, so Coulombe got the call for the ninth inning of Wednesday's game to preserve a three-run lead. Coulombe needed just 12 pitches (seven strikes) to get through the frame, highlighted by a six-pitch strikeout of Bobby Dalbec. Coulombe hasn't allowed a run over his first 11 outings of the season and has an 0.41 WHIP and 6:1 K:BB across 9.2 innings.

  • Twins' Danny Coulombe: Scoreless inning in season debut

Coulombe allowed one hit and one walk in a scoreless inning Saturday against St. Louis. Coulombe missed much of the 2024 campaign following surgery to remove bone chips from his pitching elbow, but has looked healthy this spring. He'll be a key lefty setup man for the Twins this season.

  • Danny Coulombe: $4 million club option declined

The Orioles declined Coulombe's $4 million club option for 2025 on Monday. This is a surprise, as Coulombe boasts a 2.56 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 90:17 K:BB over 81 innings across the last two seasons with the Orioles. The 35-year-old did miss a chunk of 2024 following surgery to remove bone chips from his elbow, but he returned late in the year to make five scoreless appearances in the regular season and another scoreless outing in the playoffs. Coulombe could be able to land a multi-year contract this offseason.

  • Orioles' Danny Coulombe: Back from 60-day IL

The Orioles activated Coulombe (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Friday, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports. Coulombe had surgery in mid-June to remove bone chips from his pitching elbow, but he's made it back in time to get in a few appearances down the stretch of the regular season. The lefty was dynamite earlier this season before getting hurt, posting a 2.42 ERA, 0.62 WHIP and 28:3 K:BB over 26 innings.

  • Orioles' Danny Coulombe: Beginning rehab Wednesday

Coulombe (elbow) will start his rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday according to pitching coach Drew French, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. Coulombe threw a live batting practice session Tuesday and is now ready for game action. Considering he's been out since mid-June after undergoing surgery to remove bone chips from his left elbow, it'll likely take a handful of rehab appearances before Coulombe is ready to return to the majors. He remains on track to be activated prior to the end of the regular season.

  • Orioles' Danny Coulombe: Moved to 60-day IL

The Orioles transferred Coulombe (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Saturday. Coulombe hasn't been ruled out for the season after undergoing left elbow surgery in June, but he'll give up his spot on the 40-man roster for the time being in order to make room for Vinny Nittoli.

  • Orioles' Danny Coulombe: Undergoes surgery

Orioles general manager Mike Elias said Wednesday that Coulombe underwent surgery Tuesday to remove bone chips in his left elbow, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports. Elias said that the Orioles are still hopeful that Coulombe will be able to return to the team's bullpen before the end of the season, though the earliest possible return for the left-hander would likely be sometime in September. A clearer target date for a return timeline may emerge once the 34-year-old is cleared to begin throwing, but he's in line for a long stay on the injured list no matter what.

  • Orioles' Danny Coulombe: Gets MRI on elbow

Coulombe said Wednesday that he underwent an MRI on his left elbow but remains optimistic that he'll avoid an extended stay on the 15-day injured list, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports. Coulombe -- who was placed on the IL on Tuesday with left elbow inflammation -- had Tommy John surgery back in 2011 but noted that the pain he's currently experiencing is in a different area of the elbow. The results of his MRI aren't yet known, but the reliever seems confident that he'll be back in the Baltimore bullpen in relatively short order.

  • Orioles' Danny Coulombe: Heads to IL with elbow inflammation

The Orioles placed Coulombe on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with left elbow inflammation. Coulombe had given no indication that something might be wrong, having turned in five straight scoreless appearances. It's not clear how long he might be out, but his absence will be felt in the Orioles' bullpen, where he's posted a 2.42 ERA, 0.62 WHIP and 28:3 K:BB over 26 innings.

  • Orioles' Danny Coulombe: Collects first win

Coulombe (1-0) allowed a hit in a scoreless inning and earned the win Wednesday over the Blue Jays. He did not issue a walk or strikeout a batter. Coulombe did his part in the top of the ninth inning to keep the game within reach for the Orioles, and Adley Rutschman rewarded him by walking it off with a two-run home run. Coulombe has not allowed a run over his last seven appearances, covering 6.1 innings with a 3:0 K:BB in that span. He's at a 2.16 ERA, 0.54 WHIP and 17:2 K:BB through 16.2 innings while adding a save, eight holds and a blown save as a reliable high-leverage arm. With Craig Kimbrel's struggles jolting the Orioles into a closer committee, it appears Coulombe remains more of a setup man at this stage of the campaign.

  • Orioles' Danny Coulombe: Avoids arbitration

Coulombe signed a one-year contract with the Orioles on Monday that includes a club option for 2025. The deal buys out the left-hander's final year of arbitration eligibility, and potentially, his first year of free agency. Coulombe was excellent for Baltimore in 2023, collecting a 2.81 ERA and 58:12 K:BB over 51.1 innings. He'll be a key setup man in the bullpen again in 2024.

  • Orioles' Danny Coulombe: Ends regular season with loss

Coulombe (5-3) allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and struck out two over one inning, taking the loss Sunday versus the Red Sox. Two of Coulombe's three losses this season occurred over his last five appearances. He's allowed five runs (four earned) across his last 4.2 innings. Despite the late skid, he has a 2.81 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 58:12 K:BB with two saves and 21 holds through 51.1 innings this season. He'll be a key lefty in Baltimore's bullpen during the playoffs, though Yennier Cano and Tyler Wells are likely the top options for save chances.
