Diamondbacks' Grayson Greiner: Lands with Arizona
Greiner agreed Tuesday with the Diamondbacks on a minor-league contract.
Greiner will get the chance to battle for a spot on the Diamondbacks' Opening Day roster, though if Arizona chooses to keep only two catchers and Carson Kelly and Daulton Varsho are both healthy heading into the season, he won't have good odds of breaking camp with the club. The 29-year-old appeared in 31 games at the big-league level with Detroit in 2021, slashing .236/.321/.333 with a home run and seven RBI over 82 plate appearances.

Grayson Greiner: Heads to open market
Greiner cleared waivers and elected free agency Monday.
Greiner has looked more like organizational depth than a legitimate backup catcher throughout his four seasons in the majors, hitting .201/.274/.309 in 477 trips to the plate. His 84 wRC+ in 2021 for the Tigers was a career high but was aided by an unsustainable .400 BABIP and came in a small sample of just 82 plate appearances. He'll likely be stuck searching for a minor-league deal on the open market.

Tigers' Grayson Greiner: Sitting again for Garneau
Greiner is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays.
Greiner was expected to inherit the No. 1 catcher job when Eric Haase (abdomen) went on the 10-day injured list Thursday, but he'll wind up sitting Sunday for the third time in four games. Dustin Garneau -- whom the Tigers acquired from the Rockies on Wednesday -- will pick up another start behind the dish and looks to be manager A.J. Hinch's preferred option at catcher for the time being.

Tigers' Grayson Greiner: Resting Thursday
Greiner is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Angels.
After catching each of the Tigers' last three games while going 2-for-9 with a double, a walk and two runs, Greiner will get a breather in the series finale. With Detroit moving Eric Haase (abdomen) to the 10-day injured list Thursday, Greiner should have an extended runaway as Detroit's No. 1 catcher. However, the newly acquired Dustin Garneau will get the nod behind the dish Thursday.

Tigers' Grayson Greiner: Activated and optioned
Greiner (hamstring) was activated off the 10-day injured list an optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Friday.
Greiner had already been with Toledo on a rehab assignment, going 6-for-14 at the plate over five games, and will now remain with the team as a regular member of the squad. He played 14 games at the big-league level prior to suffering his hamstring injury but hit just .237/.256/.342, so it's hardly a surprise to see him remain in the minors, especially with Eric Haase swinging a hot bat and posting an .850 OPS on the season.

Tigers' Grayson Greiner: Rehab assignment paused
Greiner (hamstring) had his rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo paused due to some discomfort, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
The 28-year-old began the rehab stint Wednesday but has been taking it easy the past couple days after the discomfort surfaced. Manager A.J. Hinch said he "wouldn't officially call it a setback," but it will certainly push back Greiner's return timeline. The backstop seemed close to being activated from the injured list but will need a bit more time on the shelf.
