  • Marcus Wilson: Cut loose by Boston

The Red Sox released Wilson on Tuesday, Katie Morrison-O'Day of The Springfield Republican reports. Wilson was getting scant playing time at Triple-A Worcester and was batting just .153 with a 47.1 percent strikeout rate over 68 plate appearances for the affiliate this season, so Boston opted to cut ties with the 26-year-old outfielder. He'll look to catch on elsewhere on a minor-league deal.

  • Red Sox's Marcus Wilson: Signs on with Boston

Wilson signed a minor-league contract with Boston on Friday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. It's a return to the Boston organization for Wilson, as he was acquired for Blake Swihart back in 2019. The outfielder spent last year in the Seattle organization, getting first big-league call-up in late June before being pushed off the 40-man roster just over a month later. The 26-year-old outfielder is likely to serve merely as organization depth for Boston at Triple-A Worcester.

  • Mariners' Marcus Wilson: Clears waivers

The Mariners outrighted Wilson to Triple-A Tacoma on Monday. Wilson will remain in the Seattle organization after he went unclaimed by MLB's other 29 teams upon being exposed to waivers over the weekend. The 25-year-old got a brief cup of coffee in the majors earlier this season but has otherwise spent the entire campaign at Tacoma, with whom he's produced a .771 OPS over 282 plate appearances.

  • Mariners' Marcus Wilson: Designated for assignment

Wilson was designated for assignment on Saturday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. The Mariners needed to add a lefty reliever to the 40-man roster, and with Mitch Haniger's return right around the corner, Wilson was expendable. He could remain in the organization as outfield depth if he clears waivers.

  • Mariners' Marcus Wilson: Returns to minors

The Mariners optioned Wilson to Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday. Wilson's week-long stint in the big leagues came to an end with first baseman Ty France (elbow) being activated from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. During his time with Seattle, Wilson appeared in three games and went 1-for-5 with a walk and a run scored.

  • Mariners' Marcus Wilson: Gets first big-league call-up

The Mariners selected Wilson's contract from Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday. Wilson will receive his first MLB call-up of the season in the wake of fellow outfielder Taylor Trammell straining his right hamstring in Tuesday's win over the Orioles and subsequently landing on the 10-day injured list. The 25-year-old slashed .209/.336/.469 with 12 home runs and eight stolen bases across 238 plate appearances with Tacoma. He has the ability to play all three outfield spots and is expected to serve as a bench piece for Seattle.

  • Mariners' Marcus Wilson: Outrighted off roster

Wilson was outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma on Friday. Wilson was claimed off waivers from the Red Sox in early August but didn't see the field at the big-league level in either Boston or Seattle. He hit a respectable .240/.364/.421 at the Triple-A level with the two organizations, good for a 110 wRC+, but he struck out in 33.4 percent of his plate appearances.

Wilson spent the start of the season at Triple-A Worcester, but he was cast off Boston's 40-man roster at the end of July. The 24-year-old hit .244 with 10 homers, 34 runs, 30 RBI and 10 stolen bases to begin the year, and he'll now report to Triple-A Tacoma.

  • Red Sox's Marcus Wilson: In Tuesday's lineup

Wilson (undisclosed) is in the lineup for Tuesday's spring game against the Rays, according to Rob Bradford of WEEI.com. Wilson missed some time earlier in camp after a collision in the outfield, but he has put that behind him and will start Tuesday for the second time in three days.

  • Red Sox's Marcus Wilson: Banged up after collision

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Wilson won't be available for Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Orioles after being involved in a collision in the outfield during a recent workout, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports. Cora didn't specify what exact injury Wilson might be dealing with, but the 24-year-old is expected to make his return to action within the next few days. Wilson will likely begin the 2021 campaign at Triple-A Worcester or Double-A Portland.

  • Red Sox's Marcus Wilson: Added to 60-man pool

Wilson has been added to Boston's 60-man player pool, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. Wilson was added to the 40-man roster last November but was not initially included in the 60-man pool. He has some speed and flashed plenty of pop last year, hitting 18 homers between High-A and Double-A while slashing .269/.357/.492 between the two levels.

  • Red Sox's Marcus Wilson: Opening year at Double-A

The Red Sox optioned Wilson to Double-A Portland on March 8. Wilson, whom the Red Sox acquired from the Diamondbacks last April in the Blake Swihart trade, was added to the 40-man roster in November. Though his presence on the roster might improve his chances of reaching the majors in 2020, Wilson probably won't be at the top of the list for a callup if the Red Sox need another outfielder as the season unfolds. Wilson slashed .269/.357/.492 with 18 home runs and 13 stolen bases while splitting time between three affiliates in 2019.

  • Red Sox's Marcus Wilson: Contract selected by Boston

Wilson's contract was purchased by the Red Sox on Wednesday. The move prevents Wilson from being selected in the upcoming Rule 5 draft. The 23-year-old hit .269/.357/.492 at the High-A and Double-A levels last season, first in the Diamondbacks' organization and then in the Red Sox's system after he was traded for Blake Swihart.

  • Red Sox's Marcus Wilson: Earns move back to Double-A

The Red Sox promoted Wilson from High-A Salem to Double-A Portland on Sunday, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports. Acquired from the Red Sox in April in the deal that sent Blake Swihart to Arizona, Wilson slashed just .161/.307/.226 over 75 plate appearances at Portland before being demoted to Salem. Wilson found his form at the plate at the lower level, batting .342 with eight home runs in 45 games. That performance was enough for the Red Sox to give Wilson another look in the Eastern League.

  • Red Sox's Marcus Wilson: Demoted to High-A

Wilson was demoted to High-A Salem on Saturday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. Wilson failed to impress since coming over in a trade for Blake Swihart in mid-May, hitting .161/.307/.226 with a 44.0 percent strikeout rate. He'll look to figure things out at an easier level before resuming his climb up the organizational ladder.

  • Red Sox's Marcus Wilson: Sent to Boston

Wilson was traded from Arizona to Boston in exchange for Blake Swihart and international bonus pool money Friday. Wilson began the 2019 season at Double-A Jackson but struggled to a .235 average with two homers, seven RBI and three stolen bases over 12 games. Perhaps a change in scenery will be just what he needs to turn things around at the dish.

  • Diamondbacks' Marcus Wilson: Starts slow in California League

Wilson, 21, has gone 3-for-22 (.136 average) with two stolen bases through his first six games with High-A Visalia. After stumbling through his first three seasons on the pro circuit, Wilson displayed a toolsy package with Low-A Kane County in 2017, recording 35 extra-base hits and 15 steals while reaching base at a .383 clip. Though he's struggled in his first exposure to the California League with 11 strikeouts in 27 plate appearances, Wilson already seems to be getting a little bit more comfortable in the batter's box. Eight of those strikeouts came in his first three games, with the outfielder turning in a much more palatable 3:3 BB:K over his subsequent three appearances.

  • Diamondbacks' Marcus Wilson: Returns from concussion

Wilson (concussion) was activated from the 7-day disabled list at Low-A Kane County and went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in his return to the lineup Monday. The nearly two-week layoff due to the concussion didn't seem to impact Wilson, who returned to action with his first home run since June 17. After turning some heads with a .319/.420/.565 batting line over the first months of the season, Wilson has seen a dramatic downturn in his performance since the start of June, hitting .259/.357/.389. The drop in power is something that certainly bears watching, as Wilson's lack of impact in that department heading into the season was a main reason why he hadn't received much adoration from prospect hounds. Wilson, who has nine home runs this season for Kane County, hit only three total in his first three years as a pro.

  • Diamondbacks' Marcus Wilson: Leading Midwest League in OPS

Wilson is slashing .347/.448/.653 to go with six homers and six steals across 118 plate appearances with Low-A Kane County. After a respectable 2016 campaign split between short-season ball and Low-A, Wilson entered the current season as one of the better prospects in a barren Arizona farm system, but the 20-year-old was likely still well off the radar in dynasty formats. Wilson has since emerged as one of the top pop-up prospects in all of baseball in his second tour of Kane County, thanks in large part to a dramatic improvement in plate discipline coupled with major gains in power. The outfielder leads the Midwest League with a 1.101 OPS and ranks fourth in the minors in that category, likely putting him on track for a promotion to High-A Visalia before long.
