Victor Alcantara: Hit with 80-game suspension
Alcantara was suspended 80 games Friday for testing positive for Stanozolol, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Alcantara is a free agent after refusing an outright assignment to Triple-A Toledo in October. His 4.28 ERA in 80 career big-league innings is decent enough , but he's struck out just 14.7 percent of opposing batters. Missing the first half of the season will undoubtedly hurt any team's interest in him.

Victor Alcantara: Becomes free agent
Alcantara was outrighted to Triple-A Toledo on Thursday and elected free agency.
The 26-year-old saw his heaviest major-league workload yet in 2019, logging 42.2 innings with a 4.85 ERA but only a 13.2 percent strikeout rate. Alcantara's likeliest role would be as a middle reliever, but it's unclear whether a team will be inclined to sign him given his inability to dominate hitters.

Tigers' Victor Alcantara: Tosses clean inning in finale
Alcantara fired a scoreless ninth inning Sunday in the Tigers' 5-3 loss to the White Sox.
After receiving a callup from Triple-A Toledo earlier this month, Alcantara was strong across three relief outings, allowing no runs in 3.2 innings. Assuming he sticks on the 40-man roster through spring training, Alcantara should be given the opportunity to compete for a spot in the Tigers' Opening Day bullpen.

Tigers' Victor Alcantara: Recalled by Tigers
Alcantara was recalled by the Tigers on Tuesday.
Alcantara hasn't done much in 39 innings for the Tigers this season, recording a 5.31 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP. He wasn't all that much better in 18.1 frames for Triple-A Toledo, posting a 5.89 ERA and 1.27 WHIP.

Tigers' Victor Alcantara: Activated and optioned
Alcantara (finger) was activated from the 10-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Monday.
Alcantara spent the entirety of the season in the big leagues prior to landing on the injured list with a bruised finger in late July. He wasn't particularly impressive, recording a 5.31 ERA and a 13.1 percent strikeout rate. He'll likely return to Detroit when rosters expand in September if not before.

Tigers' Victor Alcantara: Out with bruised finger
Alcantara landed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a right middle finger contusion.
The assignment was made retroactive to Sunday, so Alcantara could return as soon as next Wednesday if his finger has recovered. Jose Cisnero was recalled to take his place on the roster.

Tigers' Victor Alcantara: Returning from injured list
Alcantara (mouth) will be activated off the 10-day injured list Sunday.
Alcantara underwent tooth surgery and moved to the injured list July 4, but he'll rejoin the Tigers after spending the 10-day minimum on the IL. The 26-year-old has a 4.62 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 22:12 K:BB across 37 innings this season.

Tigers' Victor Alcantara: Requires minor tooth surgery
Alcantara will be placed on the 10-day injured list Friday due to minor tooth surgery, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Alcantara owns a mediocre 4.62 ERA in 37 innings for the Tigers this season. It doesn't sound as though he'll miss much more than the minimum 10 days on the injured list, much of which will occur during the All-Star break.

Tigers' Victor Alcantara: Showing improved command
Alcantara is showing better command this season and has been using more off-speed pitches, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Last year, Alcantara had a 5.6 BB/9 at Double-A, a 5.4 BB/9 at Triple-A and a 4.9 BB/9 during a brief stint in the majors. This year, the 25-year-old righty cut that rate down to 1.2 in 51.1 innings with Triple-A Toledo, and he's kept it up at the major-league level as well, walking just two batters in 16.2 innings of work (1.1 BB/9). Alcantara said he didn't make any mechanical changes in the offseason, but he has been changing speeds and relying less on his fastball, which has seemingly made him more effective. The Tigers have already used Alcantara in some big spots, and he's responded with a 0.54 ERA and 0.84 WHIP.

Tigers' Victor Alcantara: Recalled from minors
Alcantara was brought up from Triple-A Toledo prior to Friday's game.
Alcantara will join the Tigers in a corresponding move to Michael Fulmer's placement on the DL due to an oblique injury. Across three appearances with the club this season, Alcantara has allowed three hits and one walk while striking out one over three scoreless innings of relief.

Tigers' Victor Alcantara: Sent back to Triple-A
The Tigers optioned Alcantara to Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday.
In his first big-league callup of the season, Alcantara made three appearances, tossing a scoreless inning in relief each time out. Alcantara's demotion likely sets the stage for closer Shane Greene (shoulder) to return from the 10-day disabled list ahead of Friday's series opener in Houston.

Tigers' Victor Alcantara: Contract selected by Tigers
Alcantara's contract was selected by the Tigers on Wednesday.
Alcantara's first taste of big-league action last season with the Tigers went poorly, as he posted a 8.59 ERA in 7.1 innings. He's been very good for Triple-A Toledo this year, though, tossing 47 innings with a 2.68 ERA. Notably, he's cut his walk rate to 3.1 percent -- the first time it's been below 9.5 percent at any stop in his professional career. Warwick Saupold was optioned to Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move.

Tigers' Victor Alcantara: Outrighted from 40-man
Alcantara cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Toledo on Monday, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports.
The move opens up a spot on the Tigers' 40-man roster ahead of the Rule 5 draft. Alcantara spent most of 2017 in the minors, posting a 3.62 ERA across 74.2 innings between Toledo and Double-A Erie. He struggled during a brief September stint with the big club, allowing seven runs in 7.1 innings of relief. He'll stick around as organizational pitching depth in 2018.

Tigers' Victor Alcantara: Recalled from Triple-A
Alcantara was recalled from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.
Alcantara will get his first taste of the majors after compiling a 3.62 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 74.2 minor-league innings this season. Given his inexperience, the 24-year-old will likely work in lower-leverage situations for the rest of the season.

Tigers' Victor Alcantara: Dealt to Motor City
Alcantara was traded from the Angels to the Tigers on Thursday in exchange for Cameron Maybin.
The Tigers weren't going to pick up Maybin's option for the 2016 season and the Angels were, resulting in Alcantara as the trade piece being moved back. The 23-year-old Dominican hasn't impressed in his professional career thus far, but perhaps a change of organization will provide him with a boost to get things going.

Angels' Victor Alcantara: Optioned to the minors
Alcantara was optioned to the minors Monday, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.
The highest level Alcantara has played at in the Angels' system is High-A Inland Empire so his road to the big-league level is still in the works. The 22-year old RHP has shown that he has the stuff to make batters miss, as evidenced by his career 8.4 SO/9 in the minors, but he also holds a career 5.53 ERA and 1.445 WHIP. He will have to improve upon those crucial stats if he plans on ascending through the Angels' farm system any further.

Angels' Victor Alcantara: Contract selected
Alcantara had his contract selected Friday.
Alcantara struggled at High-A in 2015, posting a 5.63 ERA in 27 starts. He'll be just 23 years old though by the start of the 2016 season, so the move was likely done to protect him from the Rule 5 draft.
