Torres is back in the lineup one day after being scratched from the starting nine ahead of the Tigers' game against the Orioles due to a right quad bruise. Though Torres will be eased back into action in a non-defensive role, he'll presumably be ready to resume playing second base within the next few days.

The long balls are particularly encouraging for Torres, as he dipped to 15 homers in 2024 after having more than 20 in each of the previous two seasons. The 28-year-old's career high in home runs is 38, which he recorded back in 2019, and coming anywhere near that total in 2025 would be a welcome development for his fantasy prospects -- and would also be a major surprise. He was the only player taking reps at second base Monday and the team expects him to hit high in the order. Torres served as the Yankees' leadoff man for 56 games during the 2024 regular season, though he also regularly batted fifth or lower in New York's stacked lineup. The Tigers may install Torres as their leadoff hitter, but even if he's not hitting first, the 28-year-old appears primed to fill a key run-producing spot most days. He could be poised for a big season with his new club.

The Tigers agreed to terms with Torres on a contract Friday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
According to Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com, it's a one-year, $15 million deal. He's coming off a down year, having posted a .709 OPS with 15 homers over 154 regular-season contests, but Torres collected an .800 OPS with 25 long balls in 2023. Torres is expected to play second base for the Tigers, per Rogers, which means Colt Keith will shift either to third base or first base.
