Mariners' Adam Engel: Inks minors deal with Seattle
Engel signed a minor-league contract Tuesday with the Mariners, Mike Curto of the Tacoma Rainiers reports.
Engel has already reported to Triple-A Tacoma and is in the starting lineup Tuesday night against the Triple-A affiliate of the Giants. The 31-year-old outfielder was released by the Padres last week, having spent most of his time with that organization stuck in recovery mode from a March hamstring strain.

Adam Engel: Cut by Friars
The Padres released Engel on Wedensday.
The 31-year-old outfielder held a .620 OPS in Triple-A and went 0-for-6 at the plate in his brief major-league stint. Engel now has the opportunity to sign on with another team as organizational depth.

Padres' Adam Engel: Designated for assignment
Engel was designated for assignment by the Padres on Saturday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Engel comes off the 40- and 26-man roster after the Padres activated Jose Azocar (elbow) off the 10-day injured list. Engel has appeared in just five games with the Padres, and the outfielder didn't pick up a hit in his six at-bats in those contests. If he goes unclaimed, Engel could report back to Triple-A El Paso to provide some organizational depth.

Padres' Adam Engel: Reinstated off injured list
Engel (hamstring) was reinstated off the 10-day injured list by the Padres on Friday.
Engel ended up missing well over a month with his hamstring strain. The outfielder will take the place of Jose Azocar with Azocar placed on the 10-day IL with left elbow inflammation. Engel should operate as a backup outfielder now that he's back on the roster.

Padres' Adam Engel: Plays fourth rehab game
Engel (hamstring) played his fourth minor-league rehab game Wednesday with Triple-A El Paso, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Engel went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts Wednesday versus Triple-A Tacoma, but the positive news is that he was 3-for-9 with two doubles, four walks and two stolen bases in his three games prior. The 31-year-old outfielder appears on track to return from the 10-day injured list and join the Padres within the next few days as he completes his recovery from a late-March hamstring strain.

Padres' Adam Engel: Headed to IL with hamstring injury
Engel is expected to begin the season on the injured list due to a hamstring injury he suffered Thursday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Engel dealt with a calf strain early on in camp and has been plagued by hamstring problems the last few years. It's not clear at this point how long this one might sideline him, but he might have been in line for some playing time early with Fernando Tatis (suspension) unavailable for the first few weeks and Juan Soto (oblique) potentially sidelined as well.

Padres' Adam Engel: Set for spring debut
Engel (calf) will bat eighth and play left field Saturday against the White Sox.
Engel had been sitting out of spring action due to a right calf strain. Barring setbacks, he should still have time to build up by Opening Day. He should serve as the Padres' fourth or fifth outfielder this season.

Padres' Adam Engel: Sidelined by calf strain
Engel has yet to make a Cactus League appearance due to a strained right calf, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
It's not clear when Engel might be cleared for game action, but given that he derives most of his value from his legs, the Padres surely will proceed cautiously. If healthy, Engel is expected to operate as an extra outfielder for the Friars.

Padres' Adam Engel: Receives one-year deal with Padres
Engel signed a one-year contract with the Padres on Jan. 6.
Engel was non-tendered by the White Sox earlier this offseason but has managed to land another major-league contract. The 31-year-old brings good defense and speed to the table, although he hasn't been able to put either to as much use as he'd like the last couple years due to a multitude of hamstring problems. Engel figures to back up at all three outfield spots and could see some starts against left-handed pitching.

Adam Engel: Denied contract for 2023
The White Sox declined to tender Engel a contract for 2023, Scot Gregor of the Chicago Daily Herald reports.
Known primarily as a defensive specialist, Engel put together a couple surprisingly-good offensive season in 2020 and 2021 before his performance at the dish cratered in 2022 (.579 OPS). Given his ability to play all three outfield spots, Engel figures to draw some interest in free agency.

White Sox's Adam Engel: Steals 12th bag
Engel entered Monday's 3-2 win over Seattle as a pinch runner and recorded a stolen base
Engel entered the game as a pinch runner for Andrew Vaughn in the eighth inning and proceeded to steal third base -- his 12th stolen bag of the season. Engel is buried on the outfield depth chart when both Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert are available, and he has maintained only a .598 OPS across 225 plate appearances on the season when given an opportunity.

White Sox's Adam Engel: Swipes 11th base
Engel went 0-for-4 with a stolen base in a 5-3 win Sunday over Detroit.
Engel reached on a force out and stole second base in the second. It was his 11th stolen base in 13 attempts this season. Sunday was just his third start in the last 18 contests. Since the All-Star break, the 30-year-old is 3-for-28 with 13 strikeouts. For the season his slash line has dropped to .235/.286/.337, and he has become mostly a late-inning defensive replacement for the White Sox.

White Sox's Adam Engel: Posts 10th steal
Engel went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Rockies.
Engel got aboard with a single in the seventh inning. He then stole second -- his 10th theft of the year -- and scored what would be the game-winning run on a Yoan Moncada double. Engel has gone a paltry 2-for-14 with seven strikeouts in five games since the All-Star break, so his grip on regular playing time is likely getting a bit thin. The veteran outfielder owns a .247/.297/.357 slash line with two home runs, 14 RBI and 26 runs scored through 195 plate appearances. Engel should still be the White Sox's preferred center fielder until Luis Robert (head) returns.
