  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Placed on IL with elbow injury

Kinley was placed on the Rockies' 15-day injured list Friday due to right elbow inflammation. Kinley's placement on the injured list will end his season, and he'll finish the year with 12 saves and 15 holds while recording a 6.05 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 72:33 K:BB over 64 innings. Kinley took over as the Rockies' top closer after Victor Vodnik landed on the IL in mid-August, but the latter figures to reclaim that role for the rest of the regular season with the former on the shelf. Right-handed reliever Jake Bird was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Picks up 12th save

Kinley earned the save in Thursday's 4-2 win over Detroit, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning. Kinley found himself in some trouble, allowing a pair of Tigers to reach base before ultimately striking out Zach McKinstry to strand the tying runs aboard. The 33-year-old Kinley took over the closer role in Colorado when Victor Vodnik landed on the IL in late August and has now converted six straight save chances. It appears that Kinley may have earned a more permanent grasp on the ninth-inning job as Vodnik, who was activated earlier in the week, was used in the seventh inning Thursday.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Locks down save

Kinley struck out one batter in a perfect inning and earned a save against Milwaukee on Sunday. Kinley retired the Brewers' 2-3-4 hitters in order to close out the 4-1 victory. Since coughing up four runs against the Marlins on Aug. 27, he's converted four straight save chances without allowing a run. He's now 11-for-12 in save chances with a 5.98 ERA and a 68:31 K:BB through 61.2 innings, though it's worth noting that teammate Victor Vodnik (biceps), who has nine saves this season, was activated from the 15-day injured list Sunday.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Another save Friday

Kinley earned the save in Friday's 3-2 win over the Brewers, issuing one walk in a scoreless ninth inning. The Brewers got the tying run into scoring position against Kinley, after the right-hander walked Jake Bauers with one out before Brewer Hicklen swiped second base as a pinch runner. However, Kinley would escape with his 10th save of the year after Hicklen was thrown out at third trying to advance on a Rhys Hoskins flyout. The 33-year-old Kinley has now converted his last three save chances, including two in back-to-back days. His ERA sits at 6.08 on the season with a 1.47 WHIP and 67:31 K:BB across 60.2 innings. Kinley may soon return to a set-up role, however, with Victor Vodnik (biceps) nearing a return.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Fans two for ninth save

Kinley struck out two over a perfect ninth inning to record the save over Atlanta on Thursday. Kinley ran right through the middle of Atlanta's lineup after entering the contest with a two-run lead in the ninth, getting Jorge Soler and Marcell Ozuna to go down on strikes before producing a groundout for the final out. The right-hander has now recorded saves in three of his last four appearances, recording multiple strikeouts in each of those three outings. Thursday's save was his ninth of the campaign and his fourth since the start of August.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Nails down eighth save

Kinley picked up the save over Baltimore on Saturday, allowing one walk over one inning while striking out three. He also beaned a batter. Kinley entered the contest with a two-run lead in the top of the ninth and walked Cedric Mullins to lead things off before getting the next two batters to go down on strikes. The right-hander would then make things interesting by hitting Gunnar Henderson with a pitch to put the winning run on first. However, he was able to strike out Adley Rutschman to end the contest and secure his eighth save of the campaign. It was a solid bounceback effort for Kinley after he coughed up four runs in his previous outing, and he's now recorded multiple strikeouts in three of his last six appearances. He finishes the month with a 3.55 ERA for August to go along with a strong 16:3 K:BB.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Surrenders four earned runs

Kinley allowed four earned runs on three hits and a walk while failing to record an out Tuesday against the Marlins. Kinley has picked up the lone save for the Rockies since Victor Vodnik (shoulder) was placed on the injured list, and he entered Tuesday's game in the ninth inning with a four-run lead. Though he wasn't charged with a blown save or loss, Kinley allowed all four batters he faced to reach base, concluding with a two-run double with the bases loaded. It's unclear whether this meltdown will affect his status as closer, though Kinley had maintained a 1.53 WHIP and 0.74 WHIP across 17.2 innings since the All-Star break prior to Tuesday's appearance.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Could be in line for save chances

Kinley allowed one hit and struck out one in a scoreless eighth inning to earn a hold Tuesday against the Nationals. Kinley entered the game with a 3-1 lead and continued his solid run since the All-Star break. In 16 games -- spanning 16.2 frames -- he's maintained a 1.62 ERA and 0.78 WHIP to go along with an 18:5 K:BB. Notably, Victor Vodnik (shoulder) was unavailable Tuesday night, and Kinley would likely be next in line for save chances should Vodnik remain sidelined.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Picks up sixth save

Kinley picked up the save in an extra-inning win over the Angels on Thursday, striking out one over a perfect 10th inning. Kinley's number was called in the bottom of the 10th as Colorado looked to hang onto its 3-2 lead. The right-hander did not disappoint, retiring all three batters he faced on 15 pitches to secure his sixth save of the campaign and first since June 11 against the Twins. Victor Vodnik has been serving as the primary closer for the Rockies in the absence of Daniel Bard, though Kinley got the late-inning call after the former was needed in the ninth. The 33-year-old has not allowed any hits or runs in three straight appearances.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Roughed up in eighth inning

Kinley allowed four earned runs on three hits and a walk while striking out two across two-thirds of an inning Monday against the Reds. Kinley has worked as a setup man in recent appearances but was called upon in the eighth inning with the Rockies down 2-0 on Monday. He allowed a leadoff home run and then two of the next three batters he faced to reach base to account for the majority of the damage against him. The Rockies appear to be using a committee approach in the closer role, but Kinley's last save came on June 11.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Fires two shutout innings

Kinley pitched two shutout innings Sunday against the White Sox, allowing zero hits and one walk while striking out one. The 33-year-old worked around the ghost runner in both the 11th and 12th innings, allowing just a single baserunner on an intentional walk. Fellow reliever Jalen Beeks earned the win in the 14th inning, but Kinley remains the preferred closer despite owning an ugly 8.27 ERA on the year. Both relievers will be in the mix for saves moving forward as part of a volatile Rockies bullpen.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Serves up grand slam

Kinley allowed four earned runs on two hits and two walks while striking out one to record his only out Tuesday against the Dodgers. Kinley entered the game in the ninth inning with the Rockies up by five runs. He allowed three of the first four batters he faced to reach base before serving up a grand slam to Jason Heyward. He was pulled immediately thereafter, sparing him a loss or blown save, but it was still a disastrous outing that ultimately led to a Rockies loss. Kinley has taken over as Colorado's primary closer, though he's now given up six earned runs across his last three appearances spanning 2.1 frames.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Hangs on for save

Kinley picked up the save Tuesday against the Twins, allowing two runs on two hits with no walks over one inning. He struck out two. Kinley inherited a three-run lead in the ninth but still had to sweat after allowing a leadoff double to Willi Castro and a two-run homer to Carlos Santana with two outs before icing the game by striking out Jose Miranda. Kinley has emerged as the Rockies' preferred ninth-inning option -- supplanting Jalen Beeks -- though Tuesday's close call and Kinley's 8.10 ERA overall could open the door for other relievers to see save chances.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Snags save Thursday

Kinley allowed a hit and struck out one batter in one-third of an inning to earn the save in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Cardinals. Jalen Beeks entered the game in the eighth inning and got five outs, but Kinley was the one to get the last out for the save. This was Kinley's fourth scoreless outing in his last eight -- he's given up too many runs to be reliable on a regular basis, though he hasn't taken a blown save yet in 2024. The right-hander is at three saves and four holds with an 8.03 ERA, 1.82 WHIP and 27:14 K:BB over 24.2 innings.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Secures second save

Kinley tossed a perfect inning and earned a save against the Phillies on Sunday. Kinley needed just nine pitches to quickly close out the 5-2 victory. It was his second save of the year and first since May 15. Jalen Beeks has blown his last two save chances and allowed a run in three straight outings. His grip on the closer role doesn't seem very secure right now. Kinley has produced a 2.45 ERA with a 10:2 K:BB over his last 11 innings.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Works as setup man

Kinley allowed one hit and one walk while striking out one across a scoreless eighth inning in Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks. Kinley pitched with a five-run lead in a setup role for Justin Lawrence. It was his second appearance of the season, with the first coming in Friday's loss to Arizona. Though the team hasn't yet had a save chance, Kinley appears more likely to be in line for holds rather than saves to begin the new year.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: In mix for closer job

Kinley will compete this spring with Justin Lawrence to be the Rockies' closer, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports. Kinley missed much of the 2023 season following flexor tendon surgery but led the club with five saves in September. He didn't exactly pitch well that month, though, blowing one save opportunity and allowing five runs over 10.2 innings. It's a situation unlikely to bear much fantasy fruit no matter who wins -- Pierce Johnson led the Rockies with 13 saves last season.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Earns first save

Kinley struck out the only batter he faced to earn the save in Saturday's 8-7 win over the Blue Jays. Kinley wasn't initially brought in for the save chance, but Justin Lawrence gave up two runs and left with the bases loaded. Kinley was able to strike out Spencer Horwitz to end the threat, earning his first save since 2019 in the process. This was Kinley's first appearance since Aug. 16 after a bout of elbow inflammation. The right-hander has a 9.00 ERA, 2.00 WHIP and 9:3 K:BB through six innings this season. Despite Saturday's success, it's unlikely he sees many high-leverage opportunities under normal circumstances the rest of the way unless he continues to improve.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Activated Friday

The Rockies reinstated Kinley (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Friday, Kelsey Wingert-Linch of AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain reports. Kinley spent over a year on the injured list to begin the season while rehabbing from flexor tendon surgery, but he ended up back on the IL on Aug. 20 with inflammation in the same elbow. Now that he's healthy again, he'll rejoin the Rockies' bullpen and look to improve upon his less-than-stellar 9.53 ERA and 2.12 WHIP.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Activated from 60-day IL

Colorado activated Kinley (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Tuesday. Finally recovered from his June 2022 flexor tendon surgery, Kinley will join the Rockies bullpen ahead of Tuesday's game against the Padres. He got hammered in his first minor-league rehab appearance back in early July but rallied for a 3.68 ERA and 9:1 K:BB over his next seven outings covering 7.1 innings. Prior to going under the knife last season, Kinley was a valuable setup man for Colorado, compiling a 0.75 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 27:6 K:BB in 24 innings.
