Royals' Randy Rosario: Designated for assignment
Rosario was designated for assignment by the Royals on Thursday.
Rosario tossed 1.2 scoreless innings in his first two outings this season. However, his results declined over his most recent two appearances, and the southpaw now carries an 8.10 ERA and 3.00 WHIP over 3.1 innings this year. He'll be removed from the 40-man roster to make room for Edward Olivares in the major-league outfield.

Royals' Randy Rosario: Activated from injured list
Rosario (arm) was activated from the 10-day injured list Friday, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
Rosario had been out since the start of the season with arm tightness. He's evidently past the issue now, however, and will provide the Royals with a left-handed option out of the bullpen. He's unlikely to be a high-leverage arm, however, as he owns a career 4.83 ERa in 63.1 major-league innings. Salvador Perez (eye) was placed on the injured list in a corresponding move.

Royals' Randy Rosario: Placed on injured list
Rosario (arm) was placed on the 10-day IL on Thursday, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.
This was expected, as Rosario is still battling tightness in his arm. He'll be eligible to return from the IL at the end of July, though it's unclear if he'll be ready to go by then. He should assume a spot in the middle of Kansas City's bullpen once healthy.

Royals' Randy Rosario: Won't begin season in majors
Rosario won't begin the regular season on the 30-man roster while dealing with arm tightness, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.
Rosario won a spot in the bullpen during spring training, but he'll be sidelined to begin the year. It's unclear how or when he suffered the injury, and how much time the southpaw misses remains to be seen. Rosario posted a 4.40 ERA and 13:5 K:BB over 14.1 innings with the Cubs and Royals in 2019.

Royals' Randy Rosario: Impressive spring training
Rosario had edged into the lead for the final spot in the Royals' bullpen when camp was suspended, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.
He was competing with nine other pitchers for the Royals' ninth spot in the bullpen, although they didn't project to need a fifth starter in the first couple weeks, so they may only carry eight relievers when play resumes. Rosario gave up one earned run on two hits and one walk while striking out three in 6.1 innings. He is out of minor-league options.

Cubs' Randy Rosario: Sent to minors
Rosario was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Friday.
The southpaw returns to the Triple-A level after Carl Edwards Jr. was activated from the 10-day injured list. In Rosario's 3.2 major-league innings since being called up in early July, he gave up two runs off four hits while recording only one strikeout. The 25-year-old could be a candidate to return to the majors should injuries occur in the Cubs' bullpen, but his stock within the organization could fall if the team adds bullpen arms as the trade deadline approaches at the end of July.

Cubs' Randy Rosario: Picks up first win
Rosario (1-0) retired the lone batter he faced and earned the win in Friday's game against the Pirates.
Fellow reliever Pedro Strop allowed a game-tying, three-run homer in the eighth inning before getting the hook with two outs. Rosario retired All-Star slugger Josh Bell on a groundout and picked up win No. 1 when the Cubs scored a run in the bottom of the frame. Rosario has mostly toiled in Triple-A this season and has just nine innings at the MLB level, though he did toss 46.2 innings and register a 3.66 ERA for the Cubs in 2018, so he could stick around in the second half of the year as a lefty specialist.

Cubs' Randy Rosario: Wins final bullpen spot
Rosario has won the Cubs' final bullpen spot, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Rosario stumbled to a 6.30 ERA in 10 spring innings, though he also struck out 11 batters while walking just three. The lefty threw 46.2 major-league innings last season, finishing with a strong 3.66 ERA but a mediocre 4.68 FIP.

Cubs' Randy Rosario: Struggling this spring
Rosario has an 11.12 ERA and 2.12 WHIP through six appearances (5.2 innings) this spring.
With Brian Duensing struggling last season, Rosario emerged as a serviceable left-handed option. His 3.66 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 30 strikeouts across 46.2 innings in 2018 don't paint the picture of a dominant reliever, but the Cubs don't have a ton of great alternatives at the moment, as fellow lefty Mike Montgomery is more of a long-relief option than a situational pitcher. Xavier Cedeno (wrist) could force his way into the role when he's healthy if Rosario struggles, however.
