Twins' Dakota Chalmers: Dispatched to minor-league camp
The Twins optioned Chalmers to minor-league camp Sunday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Along with Chalmers, fellow pitchers Bailey Ober, Jhoan Duran and Jordan Balazovic were also optioned as Minnesota made its first cuts of spring training. After losing a year of development time due to the cancellation of the 2020 minor-league season, Chalmers will likely report to Double-A Wichita or Triple-A St. Paul to begin 2021 despite having pitched only 21.1 innings at the High-A level in 2021.

Chalmers was optioned to Double-A Pensacola shortly before spring training was shut down down due to the pandemic. He'll likely spend the season at Minnesota's alternate training site, but could be called up when the Twins need bullpen depth even though he's thrown just 21.1 innings above Low-A.

Twins' Dakota Chalmers: Sent to Pensacola
Chalmers was optioned to Double-A Pensacola on March 9.
The 23-year-old has yet to pitch above High-A ball, so he didn't merit serious consideration for the Twins' Opening Day roster. He's expected to spend the entire season at Double-A, though a promotion to Triple-A Rochester could be in the cards if he excels early on for Pensacola.

Twins' Dakota Chalmers: Protected from Rule 5 draft
Chalmers was added to the Twins' 40-man roster Wednesday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
This protects him from the Rule 5 draft. Chalmers has a special arm, but his command has always been well below average, so he will likely end up in the bullpen long term. He logged a 4.95 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 28:15 K:BB in 20 innings (seven appearances) in the Arizona Fall League. Chalmers will likely spend most, if not all, of 2020 pitching in the upper levels of the minors.

Chalmers was reassigned to Low-A Vermont in early June and is expected back fairly soon, although nothing specific has been announced. Athletics' Dakota Chalmers: Thriving with short-season Vermont
Chalmers, 19, has a 3.57 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 37:16 K:BB in 35.1 innings with short-season Vermont.
A third-round pick in last year's draft, Chalmers has quickly emerged as one of the more intriguing arms in a weak A's farm system. He has a nice projectable 6-foot-3, 175-pound frame and is a strong breakout candidate for 2017 once he is assigned to a full-season affiliate.
