Dodgers' David Bote: Secures NRI from LAD
Bote signed a minor-league contract with the Dodgers on Saturday that includes an invitation to spring training, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Bote made the most of limited opportunities with the Cubs last year, going 14-for-46 at the plate with six RBI in 37 games, and he also put up an .887 OPS over 123 plate appearances in Triple-A. He'll now compete for a spot on the Dodgers' Opening Day roster, but at the very least he should serve as a quality organizational depth piece at Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Cubs' David Bote: Outrighted to Triple-A
Bote cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday, Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Bote was designated for assignment by Chicago on Friday, but he'll stick in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. The 31-year-old had a respectable .304/.333/.391 slash line in 37 games before being booted off the Cubs' 40-man roster, but he recorded just four at-bats in August.

Cubs' David Bote: DFA'd by Cubs
The Cubs designated Bote for assignment Friday, Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Bote hasn't started a game for Chicago since July 28 and has netted merely four at-bats since then. While the Cubs have struggled to find a spot in the lineup for the 31-year-old, he's been successful when given an opportunity, slashing .301/.333/.391 in 48 plate appearances this season. His spot on the 26-man roster is expected to go to Luis Vazquez while Gavin Hollowell -- who was claimed off waivers from Arizona -- takes Bote's spot on the 40-man roster. The utility player should garner some interest on waivers.

Cubs' David Bote: Struggling to find playing time
Bote is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins.
Bote hasn't started since July 28 and has seen light action in the Cubs' last nine games, appearing off the bench in just two of those contests. With the Cubs at full strength in the infield, Bote's opportunities are expected to remain fairly limited.

Cubs' David Bote: Tallies three hits Saturday
Bote went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Reds.
Playing in only his fifth game of the season, Bote recorded his first three hits of the campaign. The veteran utility player gives the Cubs depth across the infield, and with Nico Hoerner (hand) a little banged up at the moment, Bote may have a brief window of extended playing time. However, when Chicago is fully healthy, Bote will find himself on the bench most days, which limits his fantasy upside.

Cubs' David Bote: Contract selected
The Cubs selected Bote's contract from Triple-A Iowa on Sunday, Tony Andracki of Marquee Sports Network reports.
The 31-year-old hasn't seen action in the big leagues since 2022 but earned another opportunity after he posted an .887 OPS in 28 games at Triple-A Iowa to begin the season. Bote should fill a utility role and could see some starts against left-handed pitching.

Cubs' David Bote: Sent to minor-league camp
The Cubs reassigned Bote to minor-league camp Thursday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Bote slugged five home runs during Cactus League play, but he came into camp with little chance at a roster spot. The 30-year-old spent all of the 2023 season at Triple-A Iowa and will head back there to start 2024. Bote is in the final season of a five-year, $15 million extension he signed with the Cubs in April 2019, but he hasn't seen any big-league action since 2022 after being moved off the 40-man roster.

Cubs' David Bote: Continues power display
Bote went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Wednesday's Cactus League game against the Guardians, giving him four long balls this spring.
Bote has exploded for four home runs in 16 games this spring, which is as many as he hit back in 2022 across 41 games for the Cubs. The veteran utility player spent all of last season in the minors, and despite the strong spring, he'll likely serve as organizational depth again in 2024 with Chicago adding more infield depth in recent years.

Cubs' David Bote: Goes deep again
Bote went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Thursday's Cactus League game against the Rockies.
Bote now has two home runs, four RBI and a 1.317 OPS across six Cactus League games. The veteran utility man spent last season with Triple-A Iowa, where he clubbed 14 long balls and posted an .811 OPS across 99 contests. With the Cubs adding depth to the infield in recent years, Bote seems to be on the outside looking in for a roster spot, though he does give the team an experienced depth option.

Cubs' David Bote: Reassigned to minors camp
Bote was reassigned Thursday to the minor-league side of Cubs camp, Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Bote is another casualty from the Cubs' offseason spending spree and will have to battle his way back into a role at the MLB level. It might take multiple injuries on the infield depth chart for him to reemerge with regular at-bats.

Cubs' David Bote: Goes deep Saturday
Bote went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in Saturday's Cactus League game against the Giants.
Bote got his spring training schedule off to a strong start with the long ball. The veteran utility player may not be in the Cubs' plans this year as he's no longer on the 40-man roster. The additions of Dansby Swanson, Cody Bellinger, Eric Hosmer and Trey Mancini in the offseason have crowded the picture. Bote would likely need injuries ahead of him to see any meaningful playing time this season.

Cubs' David Bote: Outrighted to Triple-A
Bote cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Iowa on Thursday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Bote saw limited action for Chicago in 2022 and won't remain on the 40-man roster through the offseason. He played in 41 games and had a .259/.315/.431 slash line with four home runs and 12 RBI in 127 plate appearances.

Cubs' David Bote: Tallies five RBI in finale
Bote went 2-for-4 with a walk, a home run, two runs scored and five RBI in Wednesday's 15-2 win over the Reds.
Bote hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning as part of a Chicago romp in the season finale. The veteran finished the year with four long balls and a .746 OPS across 41 games. Bote didn't debut until late June due to offseason shoulder surgery, then missed additional time with shoulder soreness and also spent about a month at Triple-A Iowa. He still has some real-life value due to his defensive versatility, though the 29-year-old isn't really on the fantasy map heading into 2023.

Cubs' David Bote: Moves into utility role
Bote is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.
Bote is on the bench for the third game in a row and looks like he'll be on the outside looking in for a spot in the Cubs' regular lineup now that Willson Contreras and Seiya Suzuki have returned from the 10-day injured list and restricted list, respectively. The 29-year-old is slashing .245/.283/.408 over 16 games in September.

Cubs' David Bote: Doubles, scores in win
Bote went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Thursday's win over the Pirates.
Bote was making his fifth straight start, and he's batting .333 during this stretch with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI. With Nico Hoerner (triceps) and Nick Madrigal (groin) both sidelined, Bote could continue to see regular playing time down the stretch for Chicago.

Cubs' David Bote: Nabs another start
Bote will start at third base and bat second in Wednesday's game against the Marlins.
After going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI in Tuesday's 2-1 win, Bote will be rewarded Wednesday with his fourth start in a row. So long as Nico Hoerner (triceps) and Nick Madrigal (groin) are sidelined with injuries, Bote should have a fairly clear path to regular run in the Chicago infield.

Cubs' David Bote: Filling in for Hoerner
Bote will start at third base and bat sixth in Monday's game against the Marlins.
Bote has benefited of late from Nick Madrigal (groin) landing on the injured list and from Nico Hoerner having not played over the past week due to a triceps injury. With Christopher Morel filling in at shortstop for Hoerner, Bote will pick up his fifth start in six games after going 5-for-15 with a solo home run and a double across the prior four contests.

Cubs' David Bote: Launches second homer
Bote went 1-for-4 with a solo homer in Tuesday's victory over the Mets.
The Cubs' utility infielder provided a big insurance run against the Mets with a solo home run to increase the lead to four and help secure the victory. The homer was Bote's second of the campaign and comes as his playing time is threatened with Patrick Wisdom healthy again. Bote has hits in each of his last three starts, and with the Cubs out of playoff contention, manager David Ross may ride the hot hand with Bote to close out the season.

Cubs' David Bote: Returns to bench role
Bote is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.
Bote started each of the past four games at third base, but after going 2-for-12 with seven strikeouts in those contests, he'll head to the bench Monday. With Patrick Wisdom back from the injured list and starting at third base in the series opener in New York, Bote may have to settle for a part-time role moving forward.

Cubs' David Bote: Back in big leagues
The Cubs recalled Bote from Triple-A Iowa on Thursday.
Bote will rejoin the Cubs as a September call-up after a month-long stint at Triple-A, where he slashed .224/.291/.368 across 20 games. Though Bote is still under contract through 2024, the Cubs seemingly don't view him as a key piece of their rebuilding effort and likely won't ask him to play on an everyday basis as he rejoins the big club. Instead, the 29-year-old is expected to serve as a utility infielder over the final five weeks of the season.
