The Brewers are unlikely to add Woodruff (shoulder) to their roster for the World Series, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Woodruff is scheduled to face hitters Tuesday for the first time since going down with right shoulder inflammation more than three months ago. However, while Woodruff is pushing hard to be included on the roster, there are a couple reasons why the proposition is unlikely. One is that the Brewers might not be allowed to replace Woodruff on the roster if he has a setback, as the rules say it has to be an acute, non-chronic injury. Another is that he simply could be rusty following such a long layoff. In the unlikely even Woodruff is included on the roster, he would work in a relief role.

Woodruff was cleared to begin throwing bullpen sessions over the weekend, and although he was a little sore after his first round of mound work, he said he was feeling good after Tuesday's session. Woodruff said in July that he would undergo season-ending capsule repair surgery on his right shoulder, but he first wanted to exhaust all his options before going under the knife. Imaging on his shoulder taken four weeks after he suffered his injury revealed unexpected healing, eliminating the need for the 33-year-old to undergo surgery. The Brewers will put him through a five-week throwing program before re-evaluating him, per Hogg, which will keep Woodruff out through the end of the regular season but could enable him to pitch in the postseason if things go well.
