Blue Jays' Anthony Santander: Slated for surgery
Manager John Schneider said Tuesday that Santander will undergo left labral surgery Wednesday and will miss roughly 5-6 months, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Santander was limited to just 54 regular-season games last year while battling injuries in his left shoulder and back. He said earlier in the offseason that he was feeling much better but later suffered a setback in January while ramping up his hitting progression, per Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca. The 31-year-old's recovery timeline leaves room for him to return before the end of the regular season, though that isn't likely to happen until after the All-Star break. With Santander out, the Blue Jays will likely rely on Nathan Lukes and Davis Schneider to start in left field for the first half of the season.

Blue Jays' Anthony Santander: Healthy after shoulder/back issues
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Tuesday that Santander's left shoulder and back "finally feel normal" again, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.
Santander was limited to only 54 games in 2025 due to a shoulder subluxation and also a nagging lower-back issue. He slashed just .175/.271/.294 in those contests and saw his strikeout rate spike to 27.6 percent. It appears Santander is healthy now, though, and Schneider believes the 31-year-old "is going to be huge for us." Santander split his time between the outfield and designated hitter in 2025 and could do the same in 2026.

Blue Jays' Anthony Santander: Officially moved off roster
Santander (back) was removed from the Blue Jays' ALCS roster due to injury Thursday.
Santander was originally scratched from the lineup for Game 2 of the ALCS, though he managed to start in Game 3. The back issue has apparently persisted, with Joey Loperfido now taking Santander's place on the roster. If the Blue Jays advance to the World Series, Santander will be ineligible to play.

The Blue Jays plan to remove Santander (back) from their ALCS roster, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.
Santander was scratched from the lineup ahead of Game 2 due to lower-back tightness, and renewed soreness will keep him from playing in Game 4 on Thursday as well. The Blue Jays are still in the process of determining the severity of the outfielder's injury, but the expectation is that he will be replaced on the postseason roster. His removal would also render him ineligible to play in the World Series, should Toronto advance, effectively ending his season.

Santander (back) will start in right field and bat cleanup in Wednesday's Game 3 of the ALCS versus the Mariners.
Santander had to be scratched from the Game 2 lineup due to lower-back tightness, but he's feeling well enough to return to action Wednesday as the series moves to Seattle. The 30-year-old is 3-for-13 with two RBI and a 0:4 BB:K in four games this postseason. Santander hadn't previously hit higher than seventh in those four contests, but the Blue Jays are changing up their batting order a bit as they look to jumpstart the offense.

Santander was scratched from the lineup for Monday's ALCS Game 2 versus the Mariners due to lower-back tightness, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Santander had been slated to start in left field and bat seventh, but a back issue will ultimately prevent him from doing so. It's not clear whether he will be available off the bench. Davis Schneider will enter the lineup as the left fielder and will hit eighth.
