White Sox's Jordan Hicks: Dealt to White Sox
The White Sox are acquiring Hicks (shoulder), David Sandlin, two players-to-be-named and cash from the Red Sox on Sunday in exchange for Gage Ziehl and a player-to-be-named, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.
Hicks was shipped from San Francisco to Boston in the Rafael Devers trade last year and is now on the move once again. The right-hander signed a four-year, $44.83 million contract with the Giants in January of 2024 to serve as a starter, and he pitched decently that year with a 4.10 ERA across 109.2 innings. However, he struggled early last year and was shifted to the bullpen, finishing the regular season with a 6.95 ERA over 67.1 frames between the Giants and Red Sox. According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, the Red Sox are covering $8 million of Hicks' salary across the remaining two years of his contract. The 29-year-old missed most of September due to shoulder tendinitis but should be ready for the start of spring training since he was back to throwing before the end of the season.

Hicks has a chance to make it back from his right shoulder tendinitis before the end of the regular season, but it's far from guaranteed. Red Sox's Jordan Hicks: Could return later this month
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Friday that Hicks (shoulder) could return before the end of the season, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.
Hicks landed on the 15-day injured list one week ago with right shoulder tendinitis. It's unclear whether he has resumed a throwing program, but it seems he's progressed enough in his recovery that his manager believes Hicks can rejoin the bullpen later this month. Hicks holds an 8.20 ERA and 15:12 K:BB over 18.2 innings during his time with the Red Sox.

The Red Sox placed Hicks on the 15-day injured list Friday, retroactive to Sept. 4, due to right shoulder tendinitis.
As expected, Hicks will hit the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder injury deemed to be tendinitis. The right-hander has surrendered at least one run in each of his last three appearances, including a four-run outing Wednesday across one-third of an inning. Chris Murphy was recalled from Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move.

Hicks earned the save in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Dodgers, logging a strikeout and a walk across 1.2 scoreless innings.
Hicks entered with one out in the eighth inning after Aroldis Chapman opened the frame with back-to-back walks. He escaped unscathed after Teoscar Hernandez lined into an inning-ending double play. Hicks returned in the ninth, working around a two-out walk to close out the one-run victory. It's the second save of the year for Hicks, both of which have come since he joined the Red Sox in the deal that sent Rafael Devers to San Francisco. The 28-year-old Hicks has allowed five runs, just two of which were earned, while posting a 5:5 K:BB through his first eight appearances spanning seven innings with Boston.

After Aroldis Chapman pitched the eighth inning, Hicks was called upon for the save in just his third appearance since joining Boston in the deal that sent Rafael Devers to San Francisco. The 28-year-old Hicks has been shaky in his brief tenure with his new team, allowing four runs (two earned) in 2.2 innings, though it appears that the Red Sox are committed to keeping him in a high-leverage role. Overall, Hicks sports a 6.49 ERA with a 1.58 WHIP and 45:22 K:BB across 51.1 innings this season.

Hicks (toe) retired two of the six batters he faced and allowed two earned runs on three hits and one walk in his rehab appearance Sunday with Triple-A Worcester.
Sunday's appearance marked Hicks' organizational debut, after the Giants placed him on the 15-day injured list June 3 before trading him to the Red Sox two weeks later. The right-hander didn't look sharp in his return to game action, as he needed 23 pitches (10 strikes) to record two outs and sported a fastball that averaged 95.5 miles per hour, about two ticks below his season average with the Giants. Boston manager Alex Cora previously said that Hicks was on track to return from the IL next weekend, though the 28-year-old's activation could be delayed if he's unable to show much improvement in his next rehab appearance.
