  • Royals' Michael Massey: Sitting against Skubal

Massey is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers. Ace lefty Tarik Skubal is getting the start for the Tigers, so the left-handed-hitting Massey will begin the contest on the bench. Maikel Garcia will handle second base as the Royals try avoid the sweep.

  • Royals' Michael Massey: Gets aboard three times

Massey went 1-for-1 with two walks and a stolen base in Tuesday's 5-0 win over the Yankees. Massey got on base multiple times for just the second time over nine contests in September. He's cooled off after batting .311 in August, going 5-for-27 (.185) to open this month. Overall, the second baseman is at a .260/.291/.448 slash line with 12 home runs, one steal, 39 RBI and 40 runs scored over 301 plate appearances. Massey has picked up most of the playing time at second base recently, while Maikel Garcia and Paul DeJong compete for time at third and Adam Frazier begins most games on the bench.

  • Royals' Michael Massey: Sitting Sunday

Massey is absent from Sunday's lineup against the Twins. Massey will begin Sunday's contest on the bench after going 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in Kansas City's 4-2 win over Minnesota on Saturday. Tommy Pham will serve as the designated hitter while Maikel Garcia starts at second base against Twins right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson.

  • Royals' Michael Massey: Swats 12th homer

Massey went 3-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's 5-0 win over the Twins. The second baseman took rookie Zebby Matthews deep in the fourth inning, part of Massey's first multi-hit performance since Aug. 24. That brief slump has been the exception for the 26-year-old of late -- since the beginning of August, Massey is slashing .297/.330/.473 over 28 contests with nine extra-base hits, including three of his 12 homers on the year.

  • Royals' Michael Massey: Lifts 11th homer

Massey went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 7-5 loss to the Guardians. Massey gave the Royals a hot start, taking Tanner Bibee's fourth pitch of the game over the fence in right field. The long ball snapped a 14-game homerless drought for Massey, who still hit a strong .327 (16-for-49) with three doubles and five RBI in that span. He hasn't been an everyday player lately, but his playing time has ticked up with Adam Frazier shifting to right field to cover for the injured Hunter Renfroe (hamstring). Massey still has to contend with Maikel Garcia at second base, though Garcia can also play third and Massey occasionally serves as the designated hitter. For the season, Massey is slashing .270/.297/.472 with 11 homers, 37 RBI, 38 runs scored and no stolen bases over 72 games.

  • Royals' Michael Massey: Taking seat for Game 2 of twin bill

Massey is out of the lineup for the second game of Monday's doubleheader with the Guardians. Maikel Garcia will step in at the keystone in place of the lefty-hitting Massey, who will hit the bench for the nightcap while the Guardians send southpaw Logan Allen to the bump. Massey played all nine innings of the Royals' 4-3 win in Game 1, going 0-for-4 with a strikeout.

  • Royals' Michael Massey: Three hits in win

Massey went 3-for-4 in Sunday's 8-1 win over the Reds. Massey didn't get directly involved in any of the run production, but he put in a solid game. This was his fourth multi-hit effort over his last nine games, a span in which he's gone 12-for-35 (.343) with four extra-base hits. The second baseman is up to a .266/.289/.468 slash line with 10 home runs, 35 RBI, 34 runs scored, 11 doubles, two triples and no stolen bases through 64 games this year. Massey hasn't been a full-time player even against right-handed pitchers, as lefty Adam Frazier and righty Maikel Garcia continue to get looks at the keystone.

  • Royals' Michael Massey: Sitting for series finale

Massey is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports. Though Massey has produced multiple hits in three of his last six starts, the Royals will hold him out of the lineup for the series finale, even while Minnesota sends a right-hander (Louie Varland) to the hill. With Massey on the bench, the Royals will go with Adam Frazier at second base and in the leadoff spot.

  • Royals' Michael Massey: Reaches 10-homer mark

Massey went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 6-5 loss to the Red Sox. Massey has started four of the last six games at second base, as he's lost out on playing time as the designated hitter with Freddy Fermin and Salvador Perez filling that role more frequently. Since the end of July, Massey has found more consistency at the plate, going 6-for-19 (.316) with five extra-base hits, including a pair of solo shots. For the season, the second baseman is slashing .255/.280/.480 with 10 homers, 31 RBI, 32 runs scored, 10 doubles and two triples over 58 games.

Massey is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports. Righty Alex Faedo is starting Sunday for Detroit, but the lefty-hitting Massey is on the bench since Faedo is serving as an opener for lefty Brant Hurter. Salvador Perez will rest his legs as the designated hitter while Freddy Fermin starts behind the plate.

  • Royals' Michael Massey: Not facing southpaw

Massey is absent from the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Rockies. Massey will give way to Freddy Fermin at DH on Saturday with lefty Austin Gomber on the mound for Colorado. Massey is 3-for-19 with a pair of solo home runs in his last six games.

  • Royals' Michael Massey: Getting breather against LHP

Massey isn't in the Royals' lineup Friday against the Rockies. Massey owns an .836 OPS in 32 plate appearances against left-handers this season, but he'll step out of the lineup Friday as the Royals load their lineup with right-handed bats versus southpaw Kyle Freeland. Salvador Perez will serve as the DH while Massey rests, allowing Freddy Fermin to start at catcher.

  • Royals' Michael Massey: Sitting out Wednesday

Massey is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Marlins. Vinnie Pasquantino will serve as the Royals' DH on Wednesday while Salvador Perez gets a start at first base.

  • Royals' Michael Massey: Returns from injured list

The Royals activated Massey (back) from the 10-day injured list Monday. He'll serve as the Royals' designated hitter and No. 5 batter in Monday's game against the Marlins. Massey has been limited to just 29 games this season because of a pair of back-related absences. He responded well to a recent pain-killing injection, however, and is ready to rejoin the Royals after completing a five-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha this past week. There's certainly risk in another aggravation of the back issue, but Massey is worth picking up in fantasy leagues where available given how well he had been hitting before getting hurt (.835 OPS in 110 plate appearances with Kansas City).

  • Royals' Michael Massey: Ready for rehab assignment

Massey (back) will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday at Triple-A Omaha. On the shelf with a low back ligament sprain, Massey received an injection May 31 and appears to have responded favorably. He was cleared to resume baseball activities early last week and has checked out fine after steadily increasing the intensity of his hitting and running over the last several days. The Royals haven't determined how long Massey's rehab assignment will last, but he may only need two or three games with Omaha to get his timing back at the plate before potentially making his return from the 10-day injured list as soon as this weekend.
