  • Astros' Christian Roa: Gets minor-league deal with Houston

The Astros signed Roa to a minor-league contract Friday and assigned him to Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Roa elected to enter free agency after being designated for assignment by the Cubs on June 24. He'll catch on with the Astros' organization for the second time this season after inking a minor-league deal with the team in early January before being DFA'd in late April. All seven of Roa's major-league outings came out of Houston's bullpen, but he has spent the majority of the 2026 season in Triple-A, where he has a 9.39 ERA, 2.02 WHIP and 23:10 K:BB across 15.1 innings.

  • Cubs' Christian Roa: DFA'd by Cubs

The Cubs designated Roa for assignment Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports. The transaction makes space on the roster for waiver claim Bryse Wilson. Roa was a waiver claim himself last month, and he's turned in a 7.71 ERA and 20:7 K:BB over 11.2 frames at Triple-A Iowa.

  • Cubs' Christian Roa: Claimed by Cubs

The Cubs claimed Roa off waivers from the Orioles on Sunday. Roa continues to bounce around via waivers, as this is his fourth organization over the past month. The right-hander has a career 3.86 ERA and 9:10 K:BB across 11.2 big-league innings and will join the bullpen at Triple-A Iowa.

The Orioles designated Roa for assignment Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Baltimore claimed Roa off waivers from the Twins last weekend, but he loses his 40-man roster spot to trade pickup Eduarniel Nunez, who was acquired from the Athletics on Friday. Roa has a career 3.86 ERA and 9:10 K:BB across 11.2 big-league innings.

The Orioles claimed Roa off waivers from the Twins on Sunday and optioned him to Triple-A Norfolk, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. Roa was designated for assignment by Minnesota on Wednesday but will remain on a 40-man roster as he heads to Baltimore. Prior to his brief time in the Twins organization, the right-hander made seven appearances for the Astros earlier this season and surrendered five earned runs with a 6:7 K:BB over 8.2 innings.

  • Twins' Christian Roa: Claimed by Twins

The Twins claimed Roa off waivers from the Astros on Thursday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. Roa will report to Triple-A St. Paul, where he will provide the Twins with some additional right-handed relief depth. He holds a 5.19 ERA, 1.96 WHIP and 6:7 K:BB across 8.2 innings at the major-league level this season.

  • Astros' Christian Roa: Booted off 40-man roster

The Astros designated Roa for assignment Tuesday. The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Daniel Johnson. Roa holds a 5.19 ERA, 1.96 WHIP and 6:7 K:BB across 8.2 innings at the major-league level this season and has a good chance of passing through waivers.

  • Astros' Christian Roa: Optioned to Triple-A

The Astros optioned Roa to Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, Julia Morales of Space City Home Network reports. Houston needed room for Peter Lambert, who is getting the promotion ahead of Friday's start against the Cardinals. Roa has pitched in seven games out of the bullpen for the Astros this season, posting a 5.19 ERA, 1.96 WHIP and 6:7 K:BB across 8.2 innings.

  • Astros' Christian Roa: Takes loss in relief

Roa (0-1) was tagged with the loss in relief Thursday against the Rockies, allowing a run on three hits across 1.1 innings. Roa has made three straight multi-inning appearances out of the Astros bullpen, but the results have been far from encouraging. Over 5.2 innings, the right-hander has given up four earned runs on seven hits with a 4:3 BB:K while also hitting three batters. Roa owns a 4.91 ERA and 1.91 WHIP in five appearances and 7.1 innings since being recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land, and he could be returned to the minors soon as the Astros continue to try and patch together their staff in the wake of an injury epidemic.

  • Astros' Christian Roa: Sent to Triple-A

The Astros optioned Roa to Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Houston is replacing Roa in the bullpen with Cody Bolton, who had his contract selected from Sugar Land in a corresponding move. Roa pitched in two games out of the Astros' bullpen in the opening series against the Angels and allowed one run on one hit and two walks across 1.1 innings. He struck out a pair.

  • Astros' Christian Roa: Wins bullpen job in Houston

The Astros selected Roa's contract from Triple-A Sugar Land on Wednesday. Roa came to Astros camp as a non-roster invitee and won a spot by allowing just one run with a 13:0 K:BB over 9.2 Grapefruit League innings. The righty has just two games of big-league experience under his belt and should be used in low-leverage situations.

  • Christian Roa: Hits open market

Roa elected free agency Friday. The 26-year-old was outrighted to Triple-A Jacksonville by the Marlins on Thursday, and he was able to reject that assignment since he had been outrighted previously. • Marlins' Christian Roa: Outrighted to Triple-A

Roa cleared waivers Thursday and was sent outright to Triple-A Jacksonville. Roa pitched three scoreless innings for the Marlins this season but spent most of his time in Triple-A, where he posted a 2.83 ERA and 1.10 WHIP over 60.1 frames. Despite his strong performance, he'll now lose his place on Miami's 40-man roster and aim to earn it back during spring training.

  • Marlins' Christian Roa: Brought back up to big club

Miami recalled Roa from Triple-A Jacksonville on Saturday. Roa's return to the Marlins was spurred by fellow reliever Tyler Phillips landing on the paternity list. Phillips is allowed up to three days away from the team, so Roa's time with the big-league squad may be short. Roa has just one appearance with Miami this year, allowing one hit and one walk with three strikeouts over two scoreless innings against Philadelphia on Sept. 6.

  • Marlins' Christian Roa: Tosses scoreless frame Saturday

Roa (shoulder) tossed a scoreless inning, allowing one walk while striking out a batter in Saturday's 7-6 win over the Cardinals in Grapefruit League action. Roa ended the 2024 season on the 60-day injured list with the Reds after suffering a right shoulder strain. The right-hander was claimed off waivers by the Marlins in November and he has now officially left his shoulder injury in the past. Roa has yet to make his MLB debut after being selected in the second round of the 2020 MLB First-Year Player Draft by the Reds and he'll likely start the 2025 season with Triple-A Jacksonville.

  • Reds' Christian Roa: Joins 40-man roster

The Reds selected Roa to their 40-man roster Tuesday. Putting Roa on the 40-man roster prevents him from being scooped up by another team in next month's Rule 5 Draft. However, the 24-year-old righty will likely need to show significant improvement before getting the call to the majors after posting a 5.43 ERA and 1.77 WHIP across 61.1 frames with Triple-A Louisville in 2023.

  • Reds' Christian Roa: Held back in extended ST

Roa is rehabbing an undisclosed injury in extended spring training, Doug Gray of RedsMinorLeagues.com reports. The 23-year-old righty pitched 34.2 innings at High-A last season and will likely return to that level once healthy. He could reach Double-A by the end of the year.
