  • Tigers' Tyler Owens: Healthy again at Double-A

Owens (hip) has yielded one earned run on two hits and one walk while striking out four batters across four innings in three appearances for Double-A Erie since being assigned to the affiliate April 21 after being activated from Triple-A Toledo's 7-day injured list. Owens attended big-league spring training with the Tigers but was brought along slowly in camp while working his way back from the arthroscopic right hip surgery he underwent last year. The right-hander opened the season on the shelf at Triple-A but was cleared to join the Tigers' Double-A affiliate after he made five rehab appearances in the Florida State League.

  • Tigers' Tyler Owens: Making rehab appearance

Owens (hip) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Lakeland on Saturday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Owens is working his way back from arthroscopic right hip surgery after re-signing with the Tigers on a minor-league contract. The righty got a cup of coffee in the majors last season and should join the Triple-A Toledo bullpen once he's deemed physically ready.

  • Tigers' Tyler Owens: Coming back from hip surgery

The Tigers announced Wednesday that Owens will be sidelined to begin camp while he recovers from arthroscopic right hip surgery, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Owens -- who is in Tigers camp as a non-roster invitee -- dealt with hip issues for a chunk of last season and at some point had the injury surgically addressed. It's uncertain how long he'll be out, but once he's healthy, Owens is likely ticketed for Triple-A Toledo.

  • Tigers' Tyler Owens: Re-signs with Tigers on MiLB deal

The Tigers re-signed Owens (hip) to a minor-league contract Tuesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Owens was removed from the Tigers' 40-man roster and released over the weekend, but he's now back in the organization on a new deal. The righty is currently sidelined by a hip injury, and it's unclear when he'll be ready to pitch again with Triple-A Toledo.

  • Tyler Owens: Cut loose by Detroit

The Tigers released Owens (hip) on Friday. Detroit designated Owens for assignment Wednesday, and after the right-hander cleared waivers, the organization opted to move on from him rather than keeping him in the fold as pitching depth at Triple-A Toledo. Prior to begin DFA'd, Owens was placed on Toledo's 7-day injured list July 16 due to a right hip injury, but he made enough progress in his recovery to make a rehab appearance at Single-A Lakeland last Friday. The 24-year-old righty should be able to land a minor-league deal once he's back to full health.

  • Tigers' Tyler Owens: Promoted Sunday

The Tigers recalled Owens from Triple-A Toledo on Sunday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. The right-hander was up with the Tigers briefly in early May and will rejoin the big club Sunday after John Brebbia was designated for assignment. Owens made two scoreless appearances during his previous stint with Detroit but has a 5.74 ERA, 1.79 WHIP and 23:17 K:BB across 26.2 innings with Toledo this season.

  • Tigers' Tyler Owens: Recalled from Toledo

The Tigers recalled Owens from Triple-A Toledo on Thursday. Owens received a promotion to Triple-A to start the season and has since turned in a 4.50 ERA and 1.79 WHIP alongside an 11:9 K:BB through 14 innings with the Mud Hens. Despite his subpar performance, he'll be recalled to the majors for the first time to replace Kenta Maeda, who was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Owens' stay in Detroit will likely be short, however, as Beau Brieske (ankle) is nearing activation from the injured list.

  • Tigers' Tyler Owens: Making impression in camp

Owens is looking sharp so far in spring training and could push for an MLB bullpen role this season, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. Owens, who was acquired last summer in the trade that sent Carson Kelly to Texas, is just 5-foot-10, but he has a unique delivery and can reach the upper 90s with his fastball. The 24-year-old pitched well following the trade, recording a 2.80 ERA and 35 strikeouts across 35.1 innings with Double-A Erie, and he figures to make the jump to Triple-A this year. Owens is also already on the 40-man roster, so if he continues to pitch well in the minors, his MLB debut might not be too far off as a member of Detroit's bullpen.

  • Rangers' Tyler Owens: Shipped to Texas

The Rangers acquired Owens from Atlanta on Friday in exchange for J.P. Martinez. Texas needed to clear a spot on its 40-man roster for the addition of David Robertson. Owens does not need to be added to the 40-man yet but is a nice-looking relief prospect who held a 3.03 ERA and 67:22 K:BB over 65.1 frames between High-A Rome and Double-A Mississippi in 2023. The 23-year-old will likely report to Double-A Frisco to start the 2024 season.
