De Los Santos signed a minor-league contract with the Yankees on Monday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.

De Los Santos cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday.

De Los Santos has lost his spot as the Pirates do some 40-man roster maneuvering, but he'll remain in the organization. The 25-year-old holds a career 4.14 ERA and 44:24 K:BB over 50 relief innings at the big-league level.

  • Pirates' Yerry De Los Santos: Lands on waivers

De Los Santos (undisclosed) was placed on waivers Thursday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

De Los Santos appeared in 22 games for the Pirates last season and maintained a 4.14 ERA across 24.1innings. He had just an 18:13 K:BB, so his results were fortunate. If he goes unclaimed on waivers, he'll have the chance to opt for free agency.

  • Pirates' Yerry De Los Santos: Done for season

Triple-A Indianapolis placed De Los Santos on its 7-day injured list Aug. 19 with an unspecified injury and transferred him to the 60-day IL on Aug. 28.

Though the nature of De Los Santos' injury is uncertain, the Pirates have determined that it's significant enough to keep the right-hander on the shelf for the remainder of the season. The 25-year-old turned in a 3.33 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 18:13 K:BB in 24.1 innings over 22 appearances with Pittsburgh earlier this season before being optioned to Triple-A on Aug. 8 and suffering the injury shortly thereafter. De Los Santos retains a spot on the Pirates' 40-man roster, but depending on the severity of his injury, he could be a non-tender candidate this winter.

  • Pirates' Yerry De Los Santos: Sent down to Triple-A

The Pirates optioned De Los Santos to Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

De Los Santos has been walking a tightrope this season with 13 walks in 24.1 innings out of the Pittsburgh bullpen, but he's been able to work around those free passes for the most part en route to a 3.33 ERA. He'll head down for the time being as the club adds reinforcements, but De Los Santos figures to be back before the end of the season.

  • Pirates' Yerry De Los Santos: Recalled from Triple-A

Pittsburgh recalled De Los Santos from Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.

De Los Santos has struggled to a 6.65 ERA in 21.2 innings this season at the Triple-A level, but the Pirates need a fresh bullpen arm with Colin Holderman (wrist) landing on the 15-day injured list.

  • Pirates' Yerry De Los Santos: Recalled from Indianapolis

The Pirates recalled De Los Santos from Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday.

De Los Santos will join the Pirates as the team searches for depth in its bullpen. He will replace Cody Bolton -- who was optioned to Triple-A on Saturday -- and is likely to work in low-leverage situations. De Los Santos holds a 5.60 ERA and a hefty 2.56 WHIP through 17.2 innings in the minors.

De Los Santos will return to the minors following a one-day stint with the big club. The Pirates selected the contract of right-hander Chase De Jong from Triple-A in a corresponding move.

  • Pirates' Yerry De Los Santos: Sent to Triple-A level

The Pirates optioned De Los Santos to Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday.

De Los Santos made his MLB debut last year in Pittsburgh and showed some promise before a lat strain shut him down in August. The 25-year-old has posted stellar minor-league numbers when healthy and figures to get another shot with the Pirates in 2023.

  • Pirates' Yerry De Los Santos: Appears healthy for spring training

De Los Santos (lat) threw a bullpen session Friday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

The 25-year-old's ability to throw a side session alongside some of the Pirates' other healthy pitchers at the early stages of camp suggests he's made a full recovery from the right lat strain that sidelined him for most of the final eight weeks of the 2022 season. Though the fact that he has three minor-league options remaining may work against him in his bid for a spot on the Pirates' Opening Day roster, De Los Santos looks to be one of the Bucs' more promising relievers from a skills standpoint. In his first taste of the big leagues in 2022, De Los Santos submitted a 4.91 ERA (4.01 FIP), 1.29 WHIP and 13.4 K-BB% across 25.2 innings.

  • Pirates' Yerry De Los Santos: Lands on 60-day injured list

De Los Santos was placed on the 60-day injured list with a right lat strain Friday, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.

De Los Santos posted a 4.91 ERA in 25.2 innings of relief in his rookie season, though that number was as low as 2.84 as recently as July 24. It now seems possible that his 10.80 ERA over his last eight appearances may be at least partially attributable to injury. His 60-day absence takes him past the final day of the season, so the injury officially shuts him down for the year. Austin Brice's contract was selected in a corresponding move.

  • Pirates' Yerry De Los Santos: Struggles in setup role

De Los Santos allowed three earned runs on four hits and a walk across 0.2 innings Wednesday against the Brewers.

De Los Santos entered the game in the eighth inning and retired the first two batters he faced without incident. However, he went on to allow five consecutive batters to reach base to blow a three-run lead. De Los Santos looked to be in a strong position to earn save chances with David Bednar (back) sidelined, but he has worked in the eighth inning in both of his appearances since Bednar became unavailable. De Los Santos has also struggled of late, allowing at least one earned run in six of his last 15 appearances.

  • Pirates' Yerry De Los Santos: Records four-out save

De Los Santos walked one batter over 1.1 innings in Monday's win over Miami. He struck out four and earned a save.

De Los Santos mowed through the Marlins lineup, striking out four of the six batters he faced, including the final three. It was the most strikeouts he's produced in a big-league outing and he's now converted saves in three of his last four outings. The 24-year-old righty lowered his season ERA to 2.81 with a 19:5 K:BB through 15 appearances. It's worth noting that regular closer David Bednar had pitched three of the past four days.

  • Pirates' Yerry De Los Santos: Returns from COVID-19 IL

The Pirates reinstated De Los Santos from the COVID-19-related injured list Wednesday.

Since De Los Santos was first placed on the IL on Sunday, he may not have even tested positive for the virus, or he was able to clear the necessary protocols quickly if he did. Due to the brevity of his absence, De Los Santos won't need to regain conditioning and should be available out of the bullpen for Wednesday's series finale with the Yankees.

  • Pirates' Yerry De Los Santos: Goes on COVID-19-related IL

The Pirates placed De Los Santos on the COVID-19-related injured list Sunday.

Pittsburgh will get reliever Duane Underwood (illness) back from the COVID-19-related IL on Sunday, only to lose another bullpen arm to the same inactive list. Provided he makes a quick recovery from the illness and doesn't experience overly severe symptoms of the virus, De Los Santos should have a good chance to rejoin the Pittsburgh bullpen before the All-Star break. Over 12.2 innings with the big club this season, De Los Santos has picked up two saves to go with a 2.84 ERA and 0.95 WHIP.
