Pirates' Noah Murdock: Up as 27th man
Murdock was added to the active roster as Pittsburgh's 27th man for Saturday's doubleheader against Milwaukee.
Murdock has spent the entire 2026 campaign in the minors and owns a 3.45 ERA through 15.2 innings at Triple-A Indianapolis. He'll now join the big club for the first time this year to add depth to the Pirates' bullpen for the second game of the twin bill, and he'll likely be sent back down to Triple-A once Saturday's festivities are complete.

Pirates' Noah Murdock: Joins 40-man roster
The Pirates selected Murdock's contract and optioned him to Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.
Murdock will be added to the 40-man roster after he exercised an upward-mobility clause in his minor-league contract that would have allowed him to test free agency had the Pirates not cleared a spot for him. The 27-year-old pitched at Single-A Bradenton and Double-A Altoona to begin the season before moving up to Triple-A in early June. Over the past month, Murdock has submitted a 4.26 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 21:4 K:BB in 12.2 innings out of the Indianapolis bullpen.

The Pirates signed Murdock to a minor-league contract Nov. 14.
Murdock made 14 appearances for the Athletics this past season after being taken in the Rule 5 Draft but was returned to the Royals after posting a 13.24 ERA over 17 innings. The 27-year-old has a 4.55 ERA and 66:39 K:BB across 59.1 frames at the Triple-A level.

Royals' Noah Murdock: Returned to Kansas City
The Athletics returned Murdock to the Royals on Monday.
Murdock was designated for assignment by the Athletics on Friday, and as a Rule 5 draft pick, he had to be offered back to his original organization in Kansas city once he cleared waivers. The 26-year-old righty struggled mightily over his 14 relief appearances for the Athletics this season, accruing a 13.24 ERA and 2.71 WHIP with a 21:20 K:BB across 17 innings. He'll likely report to the Royals' Triple-A affiliate in Omaha.

Athletics' Noah Murdock: Designated for assignment
Murdock was designated for assignment by the Athletics on Friday, Jessica Kleinschmidt of Baseball America reports.
The 26-year-old right-hander has been blasted to the tune of a 13.24 ERA and 2.71 WHIP across 17 innings out of the bullpen. Murdock was Rule 5 draft pick during the offseason, so he'll be offered back to the Royals if he passes through waivers unclaimed. With him removed from the 40-man roster, the Athletics recalled Elvis Alvarado from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move.

Athletics' Noah Murdock: Secures roster spot
Athletics manager Mark Kotsay informed Murdock on Monday that he's made the Opening Day roster, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
A Rule 5 selection from the Royals over the winter, Murdock earned a spot on the 26-man roster by allowing just three runs with a 7:5 K:BB over 7.2 Cactus League innings. The tall right-hander should operate in low-leverage relief situations for the Athletics initially.

Athletics' Noah Murdock: Likely to win roster spot
Murdock looks set to win a spot in the Athletics' Opening Day bullpen, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. He threw a scoreless inning in Thursday's Cactus League game against the Reds and has a 4.05 ERA with a 6:4 K:BB in 6.2 innings this spring.
Murdock was a Rule 5 pick in December, so he'll need to stay on the major-league roster all season for the A's to retain his rights. He has logged groundball rates over 55 percent at his three most recent stops thanks to a quality sinker and posted a 3.76 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, 46:26 K:BB and 62.1 percent groundball rate in 38.1 innings at Triple-A last season. Murdock should work in low-leverage situations initially but could have some upside as a middle reliever.

Athletics' Noah Murdock: Snagged in Rule 5 draft
The Athletics selected Murdock with the fourth pick in the Rule 5 draft Wednesday, JJ Cooper of Baseball America reports.
A 26-year-old righty reliever from the Royals organization, Murdock has logged groundball rates over 55 percent at his three most recent stops thanks to a quality sinker. He posted a 3.76 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, 46:26 K:BB and 62.1 percent groundball rate in 38.1 innings at Triple-A last season. Murdock should work in low-leverage situations as a rookie and will need to remain in the big leagues all season, otherwise the A's would need to return him to the Royals.
