  • Giants' Will Bednar: Returns from IL

High-A Eugene reinstated Bednar (back) from its 7-day injured list Tuesday. The 23-year-old right-hander made a two-inning start in his High-A debut Tuesday, striking out three while allowing no runs on one hit and two walks. Prior to being activated, Bednar made five two-inning starts with Single-A San Jose, accruing a 3.60 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB.

  • Giants' Will Bednar: Rehabbing at Single-A

Bednar (back) has struck out 11 while allowing two earned runs on six hits and one walk across eight innings over four rehab outings with Single-A Fresno. Bednar remains on High-A Eugene's 7-day injured list, but he looks to be on the cusp of rejoining the Giants' Northwest League affiliate while he's been pitching well during his rehab assignment. He's worked exactly two innings in all four of his rehab outings, and the Giants will likely look to monitor Bednar's workload closely once he reports to Eugene while he's been set back by numerous injuries since being selected in the first round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft.

  • Giants' Will Bednar: Not available to begin spring

Bednar (back) hasn't been taking part in workouts with the Giants thus far in spring training and is "still working his way back," Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. The Giants are expected to provide another update on the young right-hander's status in the coming days, but he looks as though he's still in the midst of an extended shutdown period that dates back to the Arizona Fall League. The 2021 first-round pick has yet to pitch above the Single-A level through his first three seasons in the professional ranks, with injuries playing a major part in his slow ascent through the San Francisco farm system.

  • Giants' Will Bednar: Dealing with back problems

The Giants pulled Bednar from the Arizona Fall League due to recurring back discomfort, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports. Bednar made six appearances in the Fall League before being pulled, surrendering eight runs over 5.1 innings. This isn't the first time Bednar's back has been an issue, as he was limited to just four appearances in the Arizona Complex League this season and hasn't pitched in Single-A since 2022.

  • Giants' Will Bednar: Rehab assignment on hold

Bednar (back) began a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on June 7 but hasn't made an appearance for the affiliate since June 22. Though the Giants haven't provided an explanation behind why Bednar hasn't pitched in two and a half weeks, he presumably experienced some sort of setback while on the assignment. Bednar, who has been on High-A Eugene's 7-day injured list all season due to a reported back issue, made four appearances in the ACL and logged a 4.22 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 15:7 K:BB across 10.2 innings.

  • Giants' Will Bednar: Opens season on shelf

High-A Eugene placed Bednar (back) on its 7-day injured list Thursday. Bednar remains at extended spring training to begin the minor-league season while he continues to recover from the back injury that cropped up while he was pitching in the Arizona Fall League in October. The right-hander hasn't been shut down from throwing, so he shouldn't be in store for an especially lengthy stay on the shelf to begin the campaign.

  • Giants' Will Bednar: Will miss start of season

Giants farm director Kyle Haines said Monday that Bednar (back) will remain at extended spring training for the start of the minor-league season, Melissa Lockard of The Athletic reports. Bednar has started throwing, but he isn't ready for game action yet. The right-hander will likely open the season with Single-A San Jose once he's cleared to return.
