  • Tigers' Ty Madden: Ineffective in relief Saturday

Madden allowed three runs on four hits and a walk across three innings of relief during Saturday's 4-0 loss to the White Sox. He struck out two. Opener Beau Brieske was tagged with the loss for allowing just a single run, but Madden didn't help matters during his uneven relief appearance. The 24-year-old righty had a sharp 2.55 ERA over his first four outings following his first MLB promotion in late August, but he now has a 10.12 ERA over his last two games. The Tigers are headed to the postseason and have some decisions to make with their pitching staff, so it remains to be seen if Madden makes the playoff roster and gets to pitch again during his rookie campaign.

  • Tigers' Ty Madden: Tagged with first loss

Madden (1-1) took the loss Saturday against the Orioles. He allowed one run on three hits and one walk while striking out two over 3.2 innings. Madden entered in the second inning following Beau Brieske, who pitched the opening frame. Madden looked good once again, as he only ran into problems in the third inning when he allowed his lone run. After starting in his MLB debut, the rookie has pitched in long relief each of his last three outings and has allowed just five earned runs in 17.2 total innings. The 24-year-old will carry a 2.55 ERA into his next appearance.

  • Tigers' Ty Madden: Allows two runs in relief

Madden did not factor into the decision in Monday's 3-0 loss to the Padres, allowing two runs on four hits and no walks with two strikeouts over four innings. Madden was used as a bulk reliever and tossed four scoreless frames before yielding two runs without recording an out in the eighth. The rookie has allowed three earned runs with an unimpressive 3:3 K:BB across nine major-league innings and could make another appearance this weekend against the Athletics, assuming he continues to work as a starter or primary pitcher.

  • Tigers' Ty Madden: Slated to pitch Monday

Madden is expected to pitch in Monday's game against the Padres at Petco Park, either as a traditional starter or a bulk reliever, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Madden came up from Triple-A Toledo to make his MLB debut in a starting role this past Monday against the White Sox, covering five innings while giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out two. While the Tigers initially listed him as their expected starter for Sunday's game against the Red Sox, the team ultimately changed its plans and deployed Beau Brieske as an opener in front of Brant Hurter. Assuming Madden does in fact pitch Monday, he'll line up for two appearances this week, with his second outing projected to come Sunday in Oakland.

  • Tigers' Ty Madden: Mixed bag in MLB debut

Madden allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out two batters over five innings in a no-decision against the White Sox on Monday. Madden was called up from Triple-A Toledo ahead of Monday's outing to make his big-league debut. The right-hander gave up an unearned run in the first inning but hung tough and surrendered just one more run over the remainder of his start. While he struggled with his control at times, issuing three walks and throwing a modest 52 of 87 pitches for strikes, Madden didn't surrender any extra-base hits and showed poise in mostly avoiding damage despite allowing at least one runner to reach base in each of his five frames. However, the 24-year-old didn't didn't display the strikeout stuff he's exhibited in the minors -- Madden has fanned 102 batters over 79 innings at Toledo but punched out just two hitters and induced only eight whiffs Monday. If he gets another turn in the rotation, it's tentatively slated to come against Boston this weekend.

  • Tigers' Ty Madden: Contract selected ahead of debut

The Tigers selected Madden's contract from Triple-A Toledo, and he will start in Monday's series finale against the White Sox. Madden will make his major-league debut Monday as he provides the Tigers some relief for their starting rotation, which has been decimated by injuries. Madden was promoted to Toledo in late April, and in his 18 starts in Triple-A this season he's posted a 3-5 record with a 7.97 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and 102:40 K:BB over 79 innings. If he is able to fare well in his MLB debut, he could stick around with the big club and earn another start down the road.

  • Tigers' Ty Madden: Promoted to Triple-A

Madden was promoted to Triple-A Toledo on Monday, Emily Waldon of Baseball America reports. Madden has made four starts with Double-A Erie this season, producing a 2.55 ERA and 0.79 WHIP with 22 strikeouts over 17.2 innings. He'll now get a chance to continue his hot start to 2024 at the next level, joining Triple-A for the first time in his career. In a corresponding move, right-hander Austin Bergner was optioned from Toledo to Double-A Erie.

  • Tigers' Ty Madden: Finishes strong at Double-A

Madden has a 2.43 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 50 strikeouts in 37 innings over his last seven starts for Double-A Erie. The 23-year-old righty has a 3.43 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 146 strikeouts in 118 innings at Double-A after making seven starts at the level to close out 2022. Madden can get in trouble when he walks too many batters, but he's struck out seven or more batters in five of his last seven starts, thanks in large part to his plus slider. He will likely open next season at Triple-A, but Madden is poised to make his big-league debut sometime in 2024.

  • Tigers' Ty Madden: Reassigned to minor-league camp

Madden was reassigned to minor-league camp Wednesday, Emily Waldon of The Athletic reports. Madden spent the first few days of spring training at major-league camp as a non-roster invitee, but he'll report to minor-league camp ahead of Grapefruit League games in preparation for his professional debut at one of the organization's affiliates.

  • Tigers' Ty Madden: Heading to big-league camp

Madden earned an invitation to major-league spring training Saturday. Madden joins several top prospects at big-league camp, but he's nowhere near pushing for a roster spot. The 2021 first-round pick didn't pitch in a competitive game last season after getting drafted, so he's still yet to make his professional debut, let alone his MLB debut.
