  • Reds' Matheu Nelson: Overcomes hand injury

Nelson (hand) has gone 1-for-8 with a double and six strikeouts in his two games since rejoining the High-A Dayton lineup Thursday. Nelson went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and two runs in his High-A debut Aug. 14 before exiting the contest after being struck on the left hand by a pitch in his final plate appearance. After getting four days off to recuperate, Nelson checked back into the lineup and looks set to serve as Dayton's No. 1 catcher for the remainder of the campaign.

  • Reds' Matheu Nelson: Promoted to High-A

Nelson has been promoted to High-A Dayton by the Reds, where he made his debut Saturday. Unfortunately, he was hit by a pitch in his final plate appearance Saturday and did not play Sunday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports. Nelson spent a good chunk of time at the Reds' complex in Arizona after getting drafted 30th overall in July, playing just two games in rookie ball before this weekend. It's a strong vote of confidence for the team to allow him to skip Low-A altogether, especially considering his defensive position and the fact that strikeouts were his main weakness at Florida State.
