  • Giants' Randy Rodriguez: Activated from IL

The Giants reinstated Rodriguez (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Friday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Elbow inflammation has kept Rodriguez on the injured list since mid-August, but he'll return in time to add depth to San Francisco's bullpen for the final series of the season. Prior to his injury, the 25-year-old rookie put up a 3.93 ERA and 1.19 WHIP across 50.1 innings in the bigs, and he'll most likely work in middle relief now that he's healthy again. Mason Black was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

  • Giants' Randy Rodriguez: Facing multi-week shutdown

Giants manager Bob Melvin said Sunday that Rodriguez (elbow) will be shut down from throwing for at least a couple weeks, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The right-hander landed on the injured list Thursday due to elbow inflammation, and that diagnosis was confirmed after undergoing an MRI. Rodriguez has yet to be ruled out for the season, but he'll likely need to avoid any setbacks in his recovery to have a chance of rejoining the Giants in late September.

  • Giants' Randy Rodriguez: Goes on IL with elbow inflammation

The Giants placed Rodriguez on the 15-day injured list Thursday due to right elbow inflammation, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Rodriguez will be eligible to return before the end of the month, but given the nature of the injury it's difficult to say at this point whether he has a chance to be ready by that date. Spencer Bivens has been recalled in a corresponding move.

  • Giants' Randy Rodriguez: Stuck with second loss

Rodriguez (3-2) allowed an unearned run on one hit over one inning to take the extra-inning loss Tuesday versus Atlanta. He did not issue a walk or strike out a batter. Rodriguez gave up an RBI single to Travis d'Arnaud, which plated the initial runner in the 10th inning, and the Giants failed to respond for their second extra-inning loss in a row. While this run wasn't earned, Rodriguez has allowed six runs (five earned) over his last 9.2 innings despite sparse usage since the All-Star break. He's at a 3.93 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 52:16 K:BB through 50.1 innings while adding five holds and a blown save in a low-leverage role this season.

  • Giants' Randy Rodriguez: Grabs win Sunday

Rodriguez (3-1) allowed one run on two hits and struck out three over three innings, earning the win over the Rockies on Sunday. This was a bullpen game for the Giants, and Rodriguez was their second pitcher in a contest in which they never trailed. Rodriguez was called up as a reinforcement for the bullpen earlier Sunday after Sean Hjelle (personal) went on the bereavement list. For the season, Rodriguez has a 4.11 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 47:15 K:BB while adding five holds over 46 innings through 30 appearances. The right-hander has been effective, but since he threw 45 pitches Sunday, he could soon be optioned out for another fresh reliever.

  • Giants' Randy Rodriguez: Sent to Triple-A

The Giants optioned Rodriguez to Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday. With Robbie Ray (elbow) returning from the IL to start Wednesday's game against the Dodgers, Rodriguez will be left without a spot on the Giants' pitching staff. The 24-year-old joined the big-league bullpen in early May and posted a 4.19 ERA and 1.16 WHIP while striking out 44 batters through his first 43 career MLB innings.

  • Giants' Randy Rodriguez: Strikes out five as opener

Rodriguez allowed a run on one hit and two walks while striking out five over 2.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Cubs on Tuesday. Rodriguez made his first career start and had the most work of the Giants' six pitchers in the contest, though he was never going to pitch deep enough to have a chance at the win. He's given up 11 runs over 14.1 innings in June, but he has a 15:4 K:BB in that span that suggests he's got a skill set that can keep him in the majors. For the year, he's at a 4.70 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 36:11 K:BB over 30.2 innings through 19 appearances. With the Giants' rotation unlikely to gain reinforcements until July, Rodriguez may see a few more opener assignments over the next couple of weeks if manager Bob Melvin opts to protect the pitchers the team has called up to plug holes.

  • Giants' Randy Rodriguez: Serving as opener Tuesday

Rodriguez will serve as the Giants' opening pitcher for Tuesday's game versus the Cubs, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Rodriguez has recorded at least five outs in 10 of his 18 appearances, so he should be capable of going at least a couple innings Tuesday. The Giants are opting for a second straight bullpen game after Erik Miller opened Monday's 5-4 win.

  • Giants' Randy Rodriguez: Gets walked off

Rodriguez (1-1) allowed two runs on two hits and struck out one in one-third of an inning, taking the loss Monday versus the Diamondbacks. Rodriguez served up a walk-off two-run blast to Pavin Smith in the ninth inning. After looking steady in the second half of May, Rodriguez has faltered by allowing four runs over his last 2.1 innings across three appearances. He's at a 3.57 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 23:7 K:BB over 17.2 innings while seeing most of his work in low-leverage spots, Monday's outing being a rare exception.

  • Giants' Randy Rodriguez: Grabs first win

Rodriguez (1-0) pitched two perfect innings and struck out one to earn the win over the Phillies on Monday. Rodriguez entered the game with the Giants behind by a run in the fifth inning, but he was sharp and the offense pulled ahead while the rookie right-hander was in the game. After allowing six runs (three earned) over his first three appearances, Rodriguez is riding a 7.2-inning scoreless streak over his last five appearances. He's at a 1.76 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 19:4 K:BB over 15.1 innings this season, and he's also picked up one hold. He has the ability to cover multiple innings, but that is likely to limit him to mostly low-leverage work despite his excellent ratios so far.

  • Giants' Randy Rodriguez: Heads to minor-league camp

Rodriguez was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento by the Giants on Monday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The 24-year-old was wild this spring in issuing eight walks over four relief innings. Control problems are nothing new for Rodriguez, who walked 57 across 70 frames in the minors in 2023.
