  • Diamondbacks' Adrian Del Castillo: Optioned to Reno

Arizona optioned Del Castillo to Triple-A Reno on Monday. With top catcher Gabriel Moreno returning from the 10-day injured list Sunday, the Diamondbacks will roll with Jose Herrera as the No. 2 backstop. Del Castillo is slashing .313/.368/.525 over 87 major-league plate appearances this season, but he'll have an everyday role in Reno for the tail end of the Triple-A season. The move makes room on the Diamondbacks' 28-man roster for right-hander Scott McGough.

  • Diamondbacks' Adrian Del Castillo: On bench, likely to lose work

Del Castillo is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers. With a left-hander (DL Hall) starting for the Brewers, the left-handed-hitting Del Castillo will head to the bench while Jose Herrera gets the nod behind the plate. Though Del Castillo had typically been seeing most of the starts against right-handed pitching since he was promoted from Triple-A Reno on Aug. 6, he and Herrera are both likely to see their opportunities diminish over the final two weeks of the season after Arizona reinstated top backstop Gabriel Moreno (adductor) from the 10-day injured list Sunday. Moreno could draw back into the lineup as soon as Monday in Colorado.

  • Diamondbacks' Adrian Del Castillo: Idle Friday

Del Castillo is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Brewers. Del Castillo will give way to Jose Herrera for the fourth time in six games. Although two of those occurrences came against left-handed pitching, the Brewers are starting right-hander Freddy Peralta on Friday, a strong sign that Del Castillo's playing time is trending downward.

  • Diamondbacks' Adrian Del Castillo: Pops homer in win

Del Castillo went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, three RBI and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 14-4 win over the Rangers. After the Rangers plated two runs in the top of the fifth inning, Del Castillo responded immediately with a three-run blast. He continues to split time behind the dish with Jose Herrera until Gabriel Moreno (thigh) is ready to return. The injured Moreno ramped up his activity this week, and the Diamondbacks are hoping for his return by mid-September. After an explosive debut to his MLB career -- three homers, 14 RBI in his first 48 at-bats -- Del Castillo has cooled off and entered Wednesday's contest hitting .130 (3-for-23) over the previous eight games.

  • Diamondbacks' Adrian Del Castillo: Playing time slipping

Del Castillo is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rangers. Del Castillo has now started just two of the last six contests for the Diamondbacks. Jose Herrera will catch and bat ninth for Arizona.

  • Diamondbacks' Adrian Del Castillo: Idle versus lefty

Del Castillo is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mets. Del Castillo will take a seat Tuesday with left-hander Sean Manaea out on the mound for the Mets. Del Castillo has just one start against a left-hander, but he does have a 1.000 OPS in a small sample size of 11 plate appearances against southpaws. Jose Herrera has the start behind the dish Tuesday for Arizona, batting ninth.

  • Diamondbacks' Adrian Del Castillo: Getting breather Saturday

Del Castillo is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against Boston. Del Castillo went 1-for-5 with one run scored in Friday's 12-2 win over the Red Sox. Since being called up from Triple-A Reno in early August, Del Castillo is slashing .341/.400/.610 with seven runs scored, three home runs and 14 RBI across 45 plate appearances. Jose Herrera will bat ninth and catch for Arizona right-hander Zac Gallen.

  • Diamondbacks' Adrian Del Castillo: Belts second homer since call-up

Del Castillo went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run Sunday against the Rays. Del Castillo's second homer of the season was a clutch three-run shot that tied the game in the ninth, sending it into extras. The catcher was 0-for-4 going into that at-bat, rendering him in a 1-for-16 slump prior to the blast. Del Castillo began his big-league career on fire, going 7-for-12 with three extra-base hits and five RBI. With 24 homers in the minors prior to his call up, Del Castillo has the potential to provide intriguing pop from the catcher position while Gabriel Moreno remains sidelined for the Diamondbacks.
