  • Reds' Edwin Arroyo: Tapped for AFL

Arroyo (shoulder) will participate in the Arizona Fall League, MLB.com reports. Arroyo is starting a game progression at the Reds' spring complex in Goodyear (Ariz.) in advance of his participation in the AFL. The 21-year-old shortstop underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder during spring training.

  • Reds' Edwin Arroyo: Will miss 2024 season

Arroyo underwent surgery to repair his torn left labrum Wednesday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports. Arroyo hurt his shoulder diving back to first base during a Cactus League game last week, and his injury will ultimately cost him the entire 2024 campaign. The 20-year-old prospect went 6-for-17 with three RBI during spring training and was expected to begin the season with Double-A Chattanooga, but he will instead spend the year recovering from surgery and aim to return in 2025.

  • Reds' Edwin Arroyo: Nursing shoulder injury

Arroyo is not playing for the Reds in Thursday's Spring Breakout game after suffering a left shoulder injury Wednesday in Cactus League action, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Manager David Bell said that Arroyo "felt a little tweak" in his shoulder on a dive back into first base. Bell believes Arroyo will be fine, but the team has ordered an MRI just in case. Once healthy, Arroyo will likely begin the season at Double-A Chattanooga.

  • Reds' Edwin Arroyo: Makes positive impression

Arroyo has taken advantage of infield injuries to play early in training camp, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports. Arroyo is getting playing time due to Jonathan India (foot) and Matt McLain (oblique) still working their way back to game action. Noelvi Marte only recently returned from injury. Arroyo, acquired along with Marte in the trade that sent Luis Castillo to Seattle, has flashed highlight-worthy defense at shortstop. The 20-year-old is 5-for-12 with two doubles, a stolen base, three RBI and more walks (three) than strikeouts (two).

  • Reds' Edwin Arroyo: Strong finish at High-A

Arroyo is slashing .293/.376/.508 with nine home runs, 24 steals and a 19.4 percent strikeout rate in his last 79 games for High-A Dayton. His season line (.257/.332/.444) and 116 wRC+ are strong for a good defensive infielder like Arroyo, who didn't turn 20 until August, but he really came on strong over the final three-plus months of the season. The young switch hitter had a strong first full season in the Reds organization after getting traded from Seattle at last year's deadline in the Luis Castillo trade. Arroyo should head to Double-A next year as a 20-year-old.

  • Reds' Edwin Arroyo: Healthy again at High-A

Arroyo (hip) has gone 3-for-12 with a home run, a walk, three RBI and three runs in three games since being reinstated from High-A Dayton's 7-day injured list Tuesday. Arroyo missed about a week and a half of action due to the left hip strain before returning to the Louisville lineup Tuesday. The 19-year-old switch-hitting infielder is in his first full season in the Cincinnati organization after he was part of the three-prospect package the Reds took back in a deal with Seattle for Luis Castillo at last summer's trade deadline.

  • Reds' Edwin Arroyo: Placed on minor-league IL

High-A Dayton placed Arroyo on its 7-day injured list Wednesday with a left hip strain. Arroyo suffered the injury Saturday and will now be out through at least the end of the week. Cincinnati acquired the infielder in the 2021 deal that sent Luis Castillo to Seattle, and Arroyo has since established himself as one of the top prospects in the Reds organization as a plus defender with some offensive upside.

  • Reds' Edwin Arroyo: Scuffles after deadline deal

Arroyo hit just .227/.303/.381 with one homer and four steals over 28 games for Single-A Daytona after being dealt to the Reds at the trade deadline. That's a far cry from the sparkling .316/.385/.514 line he put up for Modesto in the Mariners' organization. The California League is much more hitter-friendly than the Florida State League, but that doesn't fully account for the gap in Arroyo's production. He did show some flashes down the stretch, but overall, it seems like Arroyo -- who just turned 19 last month -- may have been pressing a little bit to impress his new organization. It'll be interesting to see whether the Reds decide to start him off back in Single-A next year or challenge him with a move to High-A.

  • Reds' Edwin Arroyo: Traded to Reds in Castillo deal

Arroyo was traded from the Mariners to the Reds on Friday along with Noelvi Marte, Andrew Moore and Levi Stoudt in exchange for Luis Castillo, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Arroyo has improved his prospect stock as much as any teenager from the 2021 draft class this season. A switch-hitting shortstop who turns 19 on Aug. 25, Arroyo is hitting .316/.385/.514 with 13 home runs and 21 steals in 87 games at Low-A. Marte, the other headliner in the deal, may end up at third base, and the Reds also have Elly De La Cruz as a potential shortstop of the future, so Arroyo could end up moving to second base or the outfield in time, as he is athletic enough to play anywhere.

  • Mariners' Edwin Arroyo: Popping in Single-A

Arroyo is hitting .288/.375/.528 with six homers and seven steals across 31 games for Single-A Modesto. The 18-year-old has an active 12-game hitting streak going and is showing uncommon plate discipline for his age with a 10.4 percent walk rate and 19.4 percent strikeout rate. A second-round pick by the Mariners last year, Arroyo is a switch-hitter whose pop and defensive ability should ultimately write his ticket to the big leagues. You can still snag him in a lot of dynasty formats, but that may not be the case for long.
