• Mets' Christian Scott: Sent down after impressive spring

  The Mets optioned Scott to Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday. Scott got stretched out to 56 pitches over three-plus innings in his most recent Grapefruit League start Monday, allowing three runs and striking out four Nationals batters. He generated seven whiffs with his splitter and four more with his fastball in Monday's outing. It's no surprise to see him ticketed for Triple-A to start his first full season back from Tommy John surgery, but Scott could be the first name called when the big-league rotation needs reinforcements. All told, Scott logged a 4.50 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 8:4 K:BB in six innings during Grapefruit League play. He threw 89.2 innings in 2024 and missed all of 2025 while recovering from a hybrid Tommy John and internal brace surgery.

• Mets' Christian Scott: Fans five in first spring action

  Scott allowed two hits over 2.2 scoreless innings in Wednesday's exhibition game against Team Israel. He struck out five without walking a batter. It was the first game action since July 2024 for the right-hander as he enters the final stages of his recovery from Tommy John surgery. Scott fired an impressive 40 of his 50 pitches for strikes after taking over from David Peterson to begin the fourth inning, and his fastball topped out at 96.8 mph. Scott will begin the season at Triple-A Syracuse barring a rash of injuries to the Mets' rotation, but he figures to be a factor for the big club some time this summer.

• Mets' Christian Scott: Faces hitters Monday

  Scott (elbow) threw approximately 30 pitches in his first live batting practice session of spring training Monday, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports. Per Albanese, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza noted that Scott hit 95 miles per hour with his fastball and flashed an impressive cutter during the throwing session. Though Scott looks to be fully healthy after missing the entire 2025 season while recovering from a September 2024 Tommy John surgery with an internal brace, Mendoza noted that the 26-year-old righty is uncertain to head north with the big club for Opening Day. Given the Mets' ample starting depth along with the fact that he's coming off a major injury and has minor-league options remaining, Scott could find himself on the outside looking in for a rotation spot. Before requiring the elbow procedure, Scott performed adequately over his nine starts with the Mets in 2024, logging a 4.56 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 39:12 K:BB in 47.1 innings.

Recovering from a hybrid Tommy John and internal brace procedure on his right elbow, Scott was scheduled to throw a live bullpen session Tuesday. It was the fourth time he's faced hitters since the September 2024 surgery and the second time he's done so on a five-day schedule. The righty said he's been sitting around 94 mph and touching 96 mph during his bullpen sessions. Scott will now go through a de-loading period before ramping his throwing back up in January. While Scott could be slow-played at the start of spring training following a long layoff, he should be ready to go for the start of the regular season. A spot in the Opening Day rotation is unlikely, but the 26-year-old could be part of the Mets' rotation at some point in 2026.

Scott was placed on the 15-day injured list shortly after the All-Star break with a UCL sprain in his right elbow, but the Mets had initially been optimistic that the 25-year-old would be able to avoid surgery and make a late-season return. He was cleared to start throwing off flat ground in late August and advanced to throwing bullpen sessions earlier this month, but Scott appears to have hit a snag in his recovery that has prompted him to get surgery. Since Scott is set to undergo a hybrid procedure involving the internal brace, he may have a slightly speedier recovery than if he had opted for Tommy John surgery alone, but he's still likely to miss the entire 2025 season.

"He's in play," Mendoza said. The Mets have already confirmed their starters through Saturday, so Scott could be called up as early as Sunday's series finale versus the Astros. More likely, the Mets will allow Scott to make another start at Triple-A this week before having him join the big-league rotation for next week's series in Washington. According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, Scott has been working on his sweeper during his latest stint with Syracuse, and over three starts since his demotion in late May, he's posted a 2.08 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 16:3 K:BB in 13 innings.

All the damage off the rookie right-hander came in the second inning, with a three-run homer by light-hitting catcher Nick Fortes accounting for most of it. Scott left the mound after throwing 84 pitches (55 strikes), and after a strong big-league debut against the Rays, he's run into trouble against NL East foes. The 24-year-old will stick in the rotation for now, but if his struggles begin to mount, it wouldn't be a surprise if the Mets sent him back to Triple-A. Scott will carry a 4.32 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 17:4 K:BB through 16.2 innings into his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Cleveland.
