  • Yankees' James Nelson: Activated from injured list

Nelson (undisclosed) was activated from the 7-day minor-league injured list Friday, Matt Kardos of MLB.com reports. Nelson began the regular season on the IL, but he'll now be available to make his 2022 debut. After spending the last three seasons at the High-A level, he's been assigned to Double-A Somerset this year.

  • Yankees' James Nelson: Traded to Yankees

Nelson was traded from the Marlins to the Yankees along with cash considerations Wednesday in exchange for Stephen Tarpley. Nelson spent the entirety of 2019 at High-A Jupiter but experienced very little success. In 121 games, he slashed .228/.279/.296 with just four home runs. That comes after he generated an even poorer .211/.262/.280 line in 62 games at the same level in 2018.

  • Marlins' James Nelson: Out with minor knee injury

Nelson has a minor knee injury and is expected to be ready for game action by the end of April, MLB.com's Mike Rosenbaum reports. Nelson was held back in extended spring training due to the injury, and while Rosenbaum did not specify which level he will head to, High-A seems most likely, as the 20-year-old third baseman played 102 games at Low-A last year. He has a lightning quick bat and at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, he should eventually grow into 20-plus homer pop.

  • Marlins' James Nelson: Surging at Low-A

Nelson, 19, is hitting .361 with nine RBI over his last 10 games for Low-A Greensboro. A 15th-round pick last season, Nelson is raking during his first taste of full-season ball. He is batting .311/.356/.458 through 91 games. Nelson does not have big power or speed, and he could stand to be a bit more patient at the dish. Still, it is difficult to argue with his average, and he could move quickly up the ranks for the Marlins due to their lack of depth in their farm system.
