Cubs' Edward Cabrera: Avoids arbitration with Cubs
Cabrera agreed to a one-year, $4.45 million contract with the Cubs on Thursday to avoid arbitration, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.
Cabrera put together a strong 2025 campaign with Miami, finishing with an 8-7 record (26 starts) while posting a 3.53 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 150:48 K:BB across 137.2 innings. He was traded by the Marlins to the Cubs on Wednesday, and if healthy, he provides the Cubs with upside and strikeout potential out of the rotation.

Cubs' Edward Cabrera: Traded to Cubs
The Cubs acquired Cabrera from the Marlins on Wednesday in exchange for Owen Caissie, Cristian Hernandez and Edgardo De Leon, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Cabrera experienced a breakthrough in 2025 after lowering his arm slot, finishing the season with a 3.53 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 150:48 K:BB across 137.2 innings. It was a career-high workload for the righty, and he will remain a major injury risk moving forward, but Cabrera injects some much-needed upside and bat-missing ability into the Cubs' rotation. He is under team control through 2028.

Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Finishes 2025 season strong
Cabrera (8-7) earned the win against the Mets on Sunday, allowing two hits and five walks while striking out seven across five scoreless innings.
Cabrera's command was off in Sunday's regular-season finale, logging a season-high five walks while tallying just 44 strikes on 83 pitches. Three of those free passes came in the fifth inning, but he was able to get out of the frame unscathed after getting Pete Alonso to line out to left field. Cabrera's efforts earned him his eighth win of the season -- a career high -- and he'll end the 2025 campaign with a 3.53 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 150:48 K:BB across 137.2 innings.

Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Lasts four innings in return
Cabrera came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 6-5 extra-innings win over the Phillies, giving up three runs on five hits and a walk over four innings. He struck out three.
The right-hander returned from an elbow sprain for the final week of the season, having last pitched Aug. 30. Cabrera tossed 40 of 67 pitches for strikes but served up homers to Kyle Schwarber and Otto Kemp, and he exited the mound in line for the loss until the Marlins' offense woke up late. Cabrera has had something of a breakout campaign between IL stints, posting a 3.66 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 143:43 K:BB over a career-high 132.2 innings, and he could get one more start on the final day of the season, at home against a Mets team currently scrambling to hang onto a playoff spot.

Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Activated ahead of Tuesday's start
The Marlins activated Cabrera (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Monday.
Cabrera has missed the entirety of September with a right elbow sprain but has been cleared to return after throwing 50 pitches in a simulated game last week. He will draw the start Tuesday in Philadelphia but should be fairly limited from a workload perspective. Cabrera tentatively lines up for a second start this week Sunday against the Mets.
