White Sox's Danny Mendick: Clears waivers, heads to Triple-A
Mendick cleared waivers Friday and was outrighted to Triple-A Charlotte, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Mendick was designated for assignment Wednesday to clear the way for Nick Senzel to join the active roster. After going unclaimed, Mendick will join the White Sox's Triple-A affiliate. He has logged 141 plate appearances with the White Sox this season and posted a .561 OPS with three homers and six stolen bases.

White Sox's Danny Mendick: Gets bumped off 40-man roster
The White Sox designated Mendick for assignment Wednesday.
Mendick will give up his spot on the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster to third baseman Nick Senzel, whom the White Sox signed to a one-year contract Wednesday. White Sox's Danny Mendick: Heading back to bench
Mendick is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros.
Mendick started at second base in each of the last three games, but the White Sox faced two lefty starters and a lefty primary pitcher in those contests. He'll head back to the bench Wednesday while the lefty-hitting Nicky Lopez steps back in at the keystone against Astros right-hander Hunter Brown.

White Sox's Danny Mendick: Serving in utility role
Mendick is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.
Though he started at second base in Tuesday's 7-6 loss while the lefty-hitting Nicky Lopez was out of the lineup versus Cubs southpaw Shota Imanaga, Mendick finds himself on the bench for the second matchup in a row with a right-hander. Mendick looked as though he could get a look in an everyday role at third base after Bryan Ramos was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte last week, but Lenyn Sosa appears to have since settled in as the primary option at the hot corner.

White Sox's Danny Mendick: Should have regular role
Mendick went 2-for-4 with a stolen base Saturday against the Brewers.
Mendick is expected to have a regular role in the White Sox's lineup after Bryan Ramos was sent to Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday. However, Mendick started at second base Saturday and notched his sixth multi-hit appearance of the season as well as his second stolen base. He is unlikely to hit for much average thanks to a 29.3 percent strikeout rate, though he could be a decent source of homers and steals in deeper formats so long as he keeps seeing consistent playing time.

White Sox's Danny Mendick: Pops pinch-hit homer
Mendick hit a solo home run in his only plate appearance Sunday against the Orioles.
Mendick continues to lose out on playing time due to the return of Bryan Ramos, though he accounted for the White Sox's only run Sunday after his homer in the eighth inning. It was Mendick's second home run of the season and first since April 30.

Mendick is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles.

White Sox's Danny Mendick: On bench Wednesday
Mendick is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.
After being activated from the injured list Friday, Mendick had started at third base in each of the White Sox's ensuing five games, going 3-for-18 with two doubles and two RBI. Mendick should have a fairly clear path to regular playing time at the hot corner while Bryan Ramos (quadricep) is on the shelf, but he'll give way to Zach Remillard in Wednesday's series finale.

White Sox's Danny Mendick: Activated from IL
Mendick (back) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Friday.
Mendick was placed on the injured list in early May with back soreness and only needed two rehab starts before being activated. During those two Triple-A games, Mendick went 0-for-8 with two walks and a run scored. He'll replace Braden Shewmake on the big-league roster and could see immediate action at third base with Bryan Ramos also headed to the 10-day IL with a strained left quad.

White Sox's Danny Mendick: Hitless in first rehab game
Mendick (back) went 0-for-5 with a walk in his first rehab game Tuesday with Triple-A Charlotte.
Mendick served as Charlotte's designated hitter, so he'll presumably need to resume playing the infield at some point during his rehab assignment before the White Sox bring him back from the 10-day injured list, perhaps as soon as this weekend. Following his promotion from Charlotte on April 22, Mendick had briefly settled into a near-everyday role at third base, but it's unclear if he'll recapture a regular starting gig once activated. Prospect Bryan Ramos (quadricep) has since settled in as Chicago's third baseman, and the organization could be inclined to let him continue playing regularly.

White Sox's Danny Mendick: Lands on injured list
The White Sox placed Mendick on the 10-day injured list Saturday with lower-back tightness, retroactive to Thursday.
Mendick's back issues caused him to be scratched from the lineup prior to Friday's game, and they will now officially cost him more than a week as he heads to the IL. Bryan Ramos was recalled from Double-A Birmingham in a corresponding move and could receive the majority of reps at third base while Mendick is sidelined.
