MLB Trade Deadline Buying or Selling: Giants

Player Outlook
Joel Peguero could emerge as one of the next-in-line candidates for saves in San Francisco after pitching reasonably well for the Giants during his first taste of the majors (22.1 innings) last season. The 28-year-old's minor-league track record doesn't jump off the page - through nine seasons he's posted just a 4.73 ERA and 1.50 WHIP - but the right-hander can hit triple-digits on the radar gun and produce plenty of groundballs with his sinker. While Peguero's strikeout and walk rates don't scream "future closer" in the league, bullpen roles in San Francisco appear to be wide open. A strong spring and continued success for Peguero could result in more opportunities in 2026, but improving his command will only increase his chances for a high-leverage role.

  • Giants' Joel Peguero: Nursing tight hamstring

Peguero will be limited over the next week due to left hamstring tightness, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. The injury is likely to delay Peguero's first spring training appearance but won't affect his Opening Day availability as long as he avoids a setback. Peguero pitched well down the stretch for the Giants in 2025, posting a 2.42 ERA and 17:8 K:BB over 22.1 innings. Assuming good health, he could fill a setup role this season in San Francisco.
